What Quote Identifies the Band to Other Big Fans?

Can you think of one quote or phrase that the rest of the world doesn’t understand the significance of but that a big fan would immediately identify? I’m looking for quotes that are NOT in songs.

“How are the tenors, Tony?”

“This is for you, Daddy.”

“The process is more like painting.”

jmn3 07-07-2022 05:59 PM

“Isn’t that WEIRD?”

“Well, you wouldn’t say that to Bob Dylan!”

jbrownsjr 07-07-2022 06:36 PM

It's an old English pub song!

WalkAThinLine. 07-07-2022 07:33 PM

"We don't use that word [fired] because I think it's ugly"

I think that's a good one, although it does appear in the recorded track just not as an official lyric. Meanwhile I always thought it was "Johnny", so clearly I'm just a "mediocre fan"!
In the same way, spoken words that appear in demos and live recordings are probably a good source of 'big fan' quotes. Like "I don't wanna be a cleaning lady" or "If my mummy could see me now."

You could probably take all of the dialogue from The Dance and place it here.

"I thought that John McVie had all the vocals! Juh juh juh juh!"

aleuzzi 07-08-2022 12:47 AM

“We had a pact.”

“She burned her bridges.”

“I’m a Gemini. I’m two people.”

“Sloane Ranger.”

Best video footage ever.

You F**k with my people and I'm gonna get REAL F**king angry!

We're going to do another song from the album Tusk. The album you guys hated.

I told her to go get a trainer

Welcome everybody

This is a story about a Welsh Witch

We're here to show you that we just refuse to go away

Thank you and a very good evening everybody

You have no idea how many stuffed animals are stuffed inside my house

We've never done this with a brass section before so this should be interesting

Care to join us sir

I thought they were saying booo and I was so bummed out

I will hand deliver it to everyone of you......sort of like girl scout cookies

I think this band sounds very much like Fleetwood Mac

Drive safe on the way home everyone

jmn3 07-08-2022 05:33 AM

Agree that any dialogue from The Dance belongs here…

“Welcome to our little soirée!”

I’d like to also add to the mix one of my favorites:
“THIS BLACK ROSE IS FOR ALL OF YOU WHO DON’T HAVE ANY ENERGY!”

Villavic 07-08-2022 09:21 AM

If my mommy could see me now....

I thought it was him just calling out "John McVie on vocals"

bombaysaffires 07-08-2022 05:11 PM

"big machine, small machine"
"This is a song about a lady named Rhiannon"
"This is a nice quiet one of Stevie's"
"Go ask Stevie Nicks"
"I'll vote we should do it"
"You should be in the Senate or something"
"I own the masters...."
"Karen is drop-dead honest"
"I'll eat a f***load of money"
"We'll just leave out your bass parts"
"You guys have been doing that for years"
"I don't want an omelet. I want French food"
"It's like being in the army"
"If you take me you gotta take my girlfriend too"
"They're a package deal"
"Come on, Johnny"
"Our very own songbird"
"I don't understand their concept"
"Roll the tape and let's just see what happens"

Ding, ding, ding! You are almost the winner in this quote game. Switch out “concept” for “premise” and you have the most obnoxious bit of Stevie-parrots-manager-speak of the last ten years…

aleuzzi 07-08-2022 11:51 PM

“Being in Fleetwood Mac is like being in the army.”

“I sold my soul to the company store.”

“It was for everyone and no one.”

“Today, a duck walked into my kitchen.”

SteveMacD 07-09-2022 02:33 AM

It was kind of an organic... thing

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 03:39 AM

We used to trail around watching them.

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 03:41 AM

This reconvening.

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 03:42 AM

We are playing. better then we ever have.

sue 07-09-2022 04:49 AM

And we were done.
Done.

Macfan4life 07-09-2022 05:34 AM

He seeks his fortune with eyes full of fun.....to conquer the world with two sticks and a drum

I was by no means a nun

My relationship will never change. I will always be the baby sister

If you cant plagiarize yourself who can you plagiarize

He put the electric skillet with the hamburger helper on the stove which meant we no longer had the hamburger helper or the electric skillet

I have to give her back, right?

I'll never forget you either

I love that song too

You broke a string, didn't you

It was just one more thing at that point

She would always say there goes the mad songwriter she has to write another song

lovethemac1 07-09-2022 06:09 AM

“You wouldn’t say that to Dylan.”

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 06:12 AM

Wherever John was, he couldn't be.

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 06:13 AM

There were 5 people in that room right there totally breaking up.

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 06:13 AM

You too, Ken!!

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 06:21 AM

Well we haven't played anything from Tusk yet so...

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 06:37 AM

I fired myself!

dougl 07-09-2022 08:05 AM

…then,if it works out instantly, it’s a viable product.

…it’s a perky little album, I think.

She will never live that one down. Nor should she.

Villavic 07-09-2022 11:23 AM

"No regrets. Yeah, I wish I've spent more fatherly things with my children. That's a regret".

"Oh. You cry?"

"That was about my then boyfriend, at the time, who for obvious reasons, he was a lighting direct, he was not welcome in the studio"

"We did some great music"

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 11:39 AM

Well we only wanted the guitarist.

Villavic 07-09-2022 12:19 PM

"In fact, I thought she was one of the loveliest and most attractive girls I'd ever seen, but I somehow managed to remain nonchalant as I blithely asked Keith Olsen, "Who's that pretty girl in there?" Her name, he said, was Stevie Nicks."

"Don't you ever do this to this band again! Ever! Is that clear?"

Macfan4life 07-09-2022 12:24 PM

I never wanted to be a hot dog or box of kleenex for Halloween

Karlie 07-09-2022 02:01 PM

Just the word “cycles.” Everyone would know who it’s referring to, but he says it too much to pick a specific quote.

jbrownsjr 07-09-2022 03:05 PM

It is pretty weird.

It’s hard when you break up with someone and then you have to see them the next morning in the breakfast room
