Kate Bush turned down an offer to open for the Tusk Tour
With Kate Bush in the news for the chart resurgence of "Running Up That Hill", I felt it would be a good time to share this tidbit.
"Even more tantalising was an offer to support Fleetwood Mac in the US in late ’79. A high-profile slot opening for one of the most successful bands in the world would was an open goal for most artists. But Bush wasn’t most artists. 'Like most support acts, she was going to get half an hour, no dancers and no magicians, so just going up there with four musicians and banging out a couple of hits,” says Brian Southall. “And she wasn’t prepared to do that.'" https://www.loudersound.com/features...e-tour-of-life Danny Douma and Christopher Cross opened for certain Tusk Tour shows instead. |

No Kate Bush so they go with Danny Douma?
That’s like saying I’ll have a martini and if you can’t make me one I’ll take a banana split. Two entirely different worlds! |

Here's your flip flop sandals that you ordered. However, you must have covered shoes to be in the establishment. Thank you for your business. |

But Kate Bush?! In a mass-market arena-rock setting — good God. Imagine how far the audiences in Detroit or Cleveland would have tossed her when she sang “Kashka from Baghdad” or “Wow.” |

Also little known are the fascinating first lyrics to her 1985 hit, originally a song of regret about certain career choices made in 1979.
And if I only could I'd make a deal with Cross And I'd get him to swap our places Be opening for that tour Be opening for that band Be opening for Fleetwood (Mac, Mac, Mac) Oh, come on, Stevie Oh, come on, Lindsey Let me steal this moment from you now Oh, come on, Angel Come on Not That Funny Let's exchange the experience |

Now I'm craving a theatrical Kate Bush cover of "Not That Funny". |
A version of Fleetwood Mac that had Kate Bush instead of Stevie is worth a fantastical thought or two, though, isn't it? Imagine her with Lindsey's guitar the Fleetwood/McVie rhythm section and a bit of tasteful Christine backing vocals...

And correct me if I am wrong but didn't Stevie actually name the song Songbird and said that it was a prequel to Nightbird? |

$he's just amazing! |
I'd always thought "Big Love" was heavily influenced by "Running Up That Hill" and there are some quotes from Lindsay and an engineer that add weight to the idea. Musically they're fairly similar, but lyrically too.
Here's one article that namedrops her ... but I remember another as well. https://www.salon.com/2017/04/02/he-...-in-the-night/ |
