It's the second to the last song on the album. Can't imagine it being good.

A friend of mine posted the album pics. I was shocked that it's at the end of the album.

I saw online some are saying they are doing the Beth Orton song.

If so, here's the original version for those who don't know it.

I bet they are correct. He said the tracks on the album were unlick anything he's ever done and the Beth Orton song is alternative sounding. I don't really like the song that much. It's ok. Lots of words - sort of train-of-thought writing. Maybe it will better when they turn it into a duet, but sort of doubt it. Still, it's different. More different for him, than for her. Maybe it will grow on me. (Alternative songs seem to live in a grey area where you can't figure out if you like them or not.)

I wish she would stop doing these lame guest vocals. Have any of them in the past couple of years actually been any good?

Me too, what’s the bl**dy point.

NEW album !!

Thank you. Was this a successful song in the 90s or was she a big artist in the 90s? I never heard of her.

I don't think this is the song. I'd think it would be a Taupin lyric. Maybe a T. Bone production.

bwboy 09-02-2021 07:08 PM

This is so cool. I really don’t care if Stevie or any of FM make another album, but the idea of Stevie and Elton John doing a duet? Just incredible! I actually wish it could have been Christine and Elton, but I’m sure Elton is doing it for publicity and that’s understandable. He has said he’s a FM fan and he did record Don’t Stop, so I’m excited to hear this. I haven’t liked a Stevie song since In Your Dreams, but the song she did with Maroon 5 was fun and catchy, so I guess I’d rather she just keep working with other singers rather than release a solo album. I wish she would work with John Mellencamp or Chaka Kahn, there are so many great artists out there.

Yes. Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems with Lana Del Ray. When you hear it you might think of 1970's Stevie.

I really liked the song she did with Leann Rimes, Borrowed. Although I liked Leann's version without Stevie better.... her voice reminds me of what Stevie's used to be... Not that they sound the same, but Leann has an agility to her voice where she can take it wherever she wants-- high notes, low notes, fast, slow etc which Stevie totally had in the 70s (Dreams is a perfect example or the high warble she does in part of Whenever I Call You Friend). Stevie lost her high end (no pun intended) after Rumours a LOT (she wasn't even able to hit the "high" notes on the "love you" bit of "players only love you when they're playing" on that tour... she whistled or 'hoo-hoo'ed" it) and then almost completely after Tusk. She managed to find it again on Sorcerer with Sheryl but she can't do it live at all anymore. When she's stuck with the low, gravelly harmony on these duets it just further reminds me of how she always did the higher harmonies on past duets (WICYF, even Gold or Midnight Wind--- which I am desperate to get a digital version of having lost my vinyl copy of the album. Anyone know of one??) and how much of her voice she lost due to not taking good care of it in her heyday. I mean you make your living from your voice, WTF are you smoking??? UGH.

Stevie taught Elton how to play piano, so this collaboration brings things full circle.

Best comment in this thread.

Anyway, Stevie sings on Elton John album, 1981–interesting, an unexpected pairing. Stevie sings on Elton John album, 2021–dull, manipulative calculation of the market.

Sorry, I couldn't help but think of the episode of of Last Man On Earth, where Fred Armisen(sp) is claiming to be a pianist(that apparently Stevie taught), playing Bennie and the Jets.

Funny how they showed Fleetwood Mac up in the end .Releasing a new album with good songs and vocals 40 years after their last album.

I know!

What's amazing is that she's willing to do that on camera. I'll bet she thinks she's killing it.

And she taught Christine how to play.

She should just pretend to play now, like Christine does.:distress:

You know what's crazy. I love her piano playing on Doing The Best That I Can. The amateur aspect of her playing actually adds to the song. She botches the lyrics which is a shame but I love this.

I don't BELIEVE that's her actually playing. Yes, I know you can see the hammers rising on the piano, but I still don't believe it.:wavey:

Anything is possible. There is just something so wild about that video. Stevie is heavily sedated dressed as an 80's vixen with her back up singers tick tacking along on a grand piano singing about giving up (throwing the cards) in drug rehab and running away. The visual, audio, and words are riveting. Simply amazing.

IF it's her, she doesn't sound half bad...

So WHAT HAPPENED? Whose skills get worse over time(Christine's issues are geriatric)? Shouldn't Stevie's playing have gotten better, not diminished?

Maybe drugs are good, kids....;)

I thought what I heard, however elementary it was, was still beyond her skill set.

Clearly, she taught Christine how to play piano. Just ask her.

Remember when she taught Mick how to play drums back in 1967. After she opened for Hendrix in front of 170,000 people.

Whoever it was here that said she should seriously be checked for dementia, was spot on.

Her stories are full blown delusions at this point. Does she believe them, or just thinks that we're too stupid to know the truth?

I liked it when they asked Stevie why she didn’t play guitar on stage with Fleetwood Mac and she said that she doesn’t play very well and fumbling onstage would just make Lindsey mad at her and start yelling so she wanted to avoid that. I thought she had a very realistic view of her musicianship at that point.

Well, when Christine left she said that neither she nor Lindsey played piano very well for SYW. So she still knew she couldn’t play even as recently as SYW. But she kind of put herself in the same piano bag as Lindsey.

I thought Lindsey sounded pretty good on piano in the Tusk doc. When he's working with Stevie on the harmonies on Angel.

Yes I agree with you that LB played quite well. Stevie played piano better in the past than she does now. Or at least publicly. It was her piano playing of Sisters of the Moon on 20/20 in 1980 that inspired me to want to learn how to play the piano.
