Jenny Boyd talks forgiving Stevie Nicks
I think this belongs to this forum, since the Stevie episode was during the Rumours lineup days.

Never understood why Bob Weston got the ax for having an affair with someone outside the group but it was OK for Mick and Stevie both in the group to do the same thing. Double standard. And we wonder why there were so many hurt feelings that exploded a few years ago. The whole band was/is highly dysfunctional.

Who didn't Stevie or Mick have an affair with? Now that's a story!

Mick is so fugly, WHO would want to sleep with him? |

Bill O’Reilly and HRC were both guests at the DC show a couple of years back. |

I don't like FOX. |

I don’t think Stevie dug Madonna’s sexuality being out in the open in general. Then again, I think Stevie considered Madonna a threat. |

It sounds nice but it's important to bolster the identities of the community and the fight that went into getting to where we are today, 51 years after Stonewall. |

'I read about it and told my dad, ‘It’s a huge party thrown by fabulous gay men and women. They love my clothes and my fashion and my songs, and they all go to it and play my music and lip synch!’ And my dad was very conservative, but he said, ‘That is really great, honey!’ And in this interview https://pridesource.com/article/46793/ 'because you know a lot of gays adore you. I know. I’m glad.' 'Drag queens will be all about that, you know. Yeah – I love it!' That doesn't sound like a very conservative woman to me. |

But maybe I am too old to remember history and when a Night of a 1000 Stevie's was only 3 years old and Stevie was asked about it. It sort of freaked her out and said it was "very scary." She did not embrace it like she does today. She could have had fun with it but shunned it in the beginning. Stevie like most everyone else has evolved on gays and drag queens. I was a bit thrown that Stevie dismissed the group at the beginning. C'mon now, it was not THAT long ago. I would also add the MTV episode "Fanatic" when the lesbian confronts her about being thrown out of her house and she bought Stevie's music to get through life. Stevie was really cold and her eyes just bugged out. Hardly comforting. I am not calling Stevie anti-gay or anti-drag. I just remember history. |

NOTS is an event celebrating her, attended by persons from all walks of life, because, when asked, she said she was happy that LGBTQ community members attend doesn't make her a fighter for the LGBTQ community like Cyndi Lauper, Grace Jones, or Bette Midler. |

As far as Night of 1000 $tevies, I'm not sure how I'd feel about Night of 1000 Davids... I mean, they're honoring her, but also parodying her. Mocking her, if you will. YES, they're doing it out of admiration, but I can see how pics from it could take off and paint her in a bad light(if it were easier to post pics here, I have a couple doozies of $tevie imitators that I've saved over the years). How would YOU feel about a night of 1000 yous? |

Since Stevie isn’t a gay woman and likely not surrounded by gay women in her bubble, it’s probably an issue that’s generally not on her radar. |

The event is a celebration of Stevie Nicks. Yes part is comedy but its all fans celebrating and performing her music. NOTHING to have fear of. Why she could not see this right away is beyond me. A bunch of guys and gals dress up as Stevie Nicks and have a good time while singing and dancing. No fear Homer. No fear. She embraces it today and jokes that someday she may attend. That was my point. She has evolved over the years like so many other people about drag and gay guys pretending to be her. IMHO none of the event portrays her in a bad light. Its all in good fun and worship of Stevie Nicks. Get on board Homer! A night of a 1000 Homers is a great idea :) |
Look, I'm no $tevie fan. There are enough horrible qualities about her to discuss. But, I'm gay and I've never felt she was pro or anti gay.
As far as 1000 Stevie's. It is a little creepy. Can you imagine 1000's of people dressing up and acting like you from all over the world? I guess it goes with the territory of being a superstar. |

I only fear her mindless drones, that follow her like like $he's something special. Following a minimally talented, crazy persona $he invented 45 years ago. I guess there's no accounting for taste....:lol::lol: (does that make up for my nice comment?) Night of 1000 Homers... Group of "concrete" thinking guys who don't live in an artsy fartsy fantasy world, who sit around drinking beer and whiskey after work, listening to classic country music? Okay, I'm down with that. Sounds like a blast! :wavey::wavey::wavey: |

I just said anti-LGBTQ, nothing about rights. |

When you say "anti-LGBTQ" I give you the benefit of the doubt you meant to say "anti-LGBTQ community" |

I feel that she being an international superstar and a person of privilege, has a responsibility to speak truth and speak up when evil is done to targeted communities. It's great she talked about wearing masks & staying in, and "our poisonous president" but what else does she have to say? It's beautiful she shares her journal on every September 11 and Memorial Day. Where was the post for the torture and murder of George Floyd? Where was the honoring of Pride Month? We got a post about a dove. Vanessa Carlton's album. An eye exam. The Stones spoke up, Sheryl Crow did, Streisand did, Tony Bennett did. I wish she'd watch CNN Tonight with Don Lemon. That might get her on social more. |
Quote:
You said she is 'traditionally conservative.' That may be true of the past, but not many traditionally conservative people embrace a drag event celebrating their life. Or maybe I just haven't met them. You're right, she hasn't 'fought' for LGBT rights like, say, Madonna has. But that doesn't make her anti them. |

For what it’s worth, I really don’t care what any celebrity thinks about hot-button issues. I think this stems from my experiences growing up as a gay kid who was also a rabid enthusiast of the DeLorean automobile. I read John DeLorean’s autobiography as a teen, and was pretty stung by the anti-gay comments in his book. However, I snapped out of that pretty quickly. I don’t care if John DeLorean didn’t care for gays, I still loved his car anyway. In fact, I felt kinda like my owning a DeLorean car as a gay man was thumbing my nose at his views, and I dug that. That being said, I do understand not wanting to give someone money and fame if they are vocally contrary to your beliefs. But Stevie has never been anti-gay, ever. For those saying she’s conservative, you can look up online where she has repeatedly given campaign contributions to democratic candidates. She may not be a vocal advocate for causes like Madonna or a Gaga... but that’s also not who she is. Her whole shtick has been airy-fairy escapism. People are drawn to her mystical style to escape their ****ty existences. Stevie involving herself in social and political issues would just burst that bubble. Kinda like Queen Elizabeth... if she lets her opinions be known, if she lets the media & public in too close, it kills the whole mystical facade of royalty and exceptionalism. And as a final point... I’m still pissed at Stevie for firing Lindsey and killing Fleetwood Mac. But I haven’t stop listening to the band’s music! I am able to keep my disdain for her separate from my love of her work within Fleetwood Mac. I won’t let her kill that love. |

I find it anything BUT creepy. Its idol worship to the extreme. There have always been women dressing up at Stevie at concerts. Why not men too? ALL of them are paying tribute to Stevie which really demonstrates her passion from her fans. I find them all extremely talented especially the Ho Ho's. Many of them can really sing and perform. And btw, (Homer), nothing wrong in paying tribute to all eras of Steviedom including the drugged out years. I love it when the Ho Ho's have both the good Stevie and bad Stevie on stage at the same time. For comedy to work, there has to be a bit of truth for a sketch to work and it worked brilliantly. Do you think SNL's Stevie's fajita restaurant was creepy? Of course not, it was done in good fun. C'mon people. The world is falling apart. We need more comedy. Her fans are so devoted and I appreciate their work. |
