Stevie Delayed 2012 Tour, So Why Such Hostility When Lindsey Asked To Do The Same?
Aside from being untrue or at least exaggerated with respect to the timeframe of the requested delay, the purported reason for Lindsey's firing (asking for a delay of the 2018 tour) contradicts how the band treated Stevie's similar request in 2012.
It’s clear from this interview that Fleetwood Mac had been planning to tour in 2012, but Stevie then decided to tour instead with her solo band (co-headlining with Rod Stewart) and to delay the Fleetwood Mac tour to 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozXM_SjnfcE (1:30 mark) This makes it all the more farcical for her and the rest of the band to suggest that no member has the right to ask the others to push back their collective tour plans. Also, since Stevie used Brett Tuggle for her tour, she left Lindsey without his righthand man and put him in the position of not being able to tour with his own band (although Lindsey may have been just fine with that, and in fact eager to try a true solo show as he did in 2012). |

Perhaps someone can clear something up for me. Did FM ever plan a tour in 2008 that was delayed to 2009 because of Lindsey's Gift of Screws tour? Someone mentioned this to me on social media and for the life of me I cannot recall that at all.
As for the above post I feel that because she is the big draw in the band some people feel she has the right to dictate when they will or won't tour. Lindsey isn't a big draw so people don't see a point to him delaying tours for albums that won't sell and small crowds etc. Plus there is the whole age thing that people have talked about on social media. People think given their ages he shouldn't be delaying tours etc. On Facebook, Twitter etc I have seen comments that suggest what I posted above. In my opinion why is she given a a pass for delaying the 2012 tour, barely showing up for Tango recording sessions etc but he gets crapped on for the one time he allegedly asks for a delay. It seems very hypocritical. |
The same with the set list. I got into arguments because people kept insisting the WHOLE band sacked him even though it was clearly Mick and Stevie's doing. When the discussion over the stale set lists was brought up people argued that even though Mick is the boss Lindsey has the final say in what they play which I don't believe. If Mick really cared to honor the work of prior FM members over the years then he could have put his foot down and demanded so. The truth is Mick is so concerned with money that he willingly went along with whatever the band wanted to do. It was SN who insisted that they play some real deep cuts for the current tour. He wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to play deep cuts.
You can't call Mick the boss but then say he isn't when it comes to the set list. If they were so tired of the same old same old they should have done something about it long ago (Especially when Lindsey was absent for 10 years). |
setlist
maybe Lindsey and Christine inisisted they do some BuckVie tunes this time around, so the setlist is not as stale or set in ancient past as it usually is.
we can imagine how that type of demand would not go over well. frankly though, i don't think they ever even came to discussing setlists, but you never know. we do know Lindsey has been frustrated with GH tours and stale setlists forever and was trying to find something - anything - to be different from tour to tour. for starters, this year's tour could have had 2 BuckVie songs that were never performed before - Carnival Begins and On With The Show - both songs that are very much about Fleetwood Mac. |

I guess you didn’t get the memo that they recently had an ugly split. You should read the “words of affection” Graham Nash is saying about David Crosby these days. |
There’s a hell of a lot of nuance between 2012 and this past year. It’s a very different equation. Stevie wanted to extend the tour she was already on behind an album of new material that was already out. FWIW, Mick very publicly called her out on it.
That was six years ago. Since then, John has survived cancer and Christine (the oldest) came out of retirement. |

This was mentioned 4,679,320 times in over 2,785,521 threads about Lindsey's firing Why are we saying this over and over? Yes the band treats Stevie different. Yes Stevie is held to different standards Its all about the money she brings to the band. Can we move on? |

The song was not a hit. |
His giving them the impression he saw commercial potential in that song should have been a red flag pushing them to the other label.

There are dozens of threads and posts talking about this.
Why start yet another thread? |
Fleetwood Mac obviously needed a clever project manager—someone to make some band-centric decisions and lay down the law (otherwise known as Hobson's choice)—after 1980. "Your tour schedule conflicts with the band's schedule. Guess who wins?"
Solo activities started in 1980–81 as an outlet for Fleetwood Macsters to let off a little steam and find their center (even though there had been a few solo projects during earlier incarnations). But those activities wound up toxifying the band until finally the group paid a heavy price for all the individuals running off on their own. It entered a state of suspended animation—much of its audience (and maybe even a few of its members) thought repeatedly that it was dead. All of the maneuvering over the years to get the band back into a room together again was nothing but a lot of wasted energy. It's no wonder nobody enjoyed the recording or the touring. The finagling of schedules drained everybody. The moment you saw your fellow Macsters at the airport on the eve of a tour, you were already sick of them. |

Mirage was an over correction from Tusk. Very commercial and SAFE. It also was vital to the band to have a successful #1 album to almost counter Bella Donna. Tango had even more pressure to be a commercial success. Its pure bubble gum pop even more than Mirage. Plus the suspended animation only allowed Stevie to spend very little time on the album. I am not trashing Mirage and Tango. But just imagine the music we could have gotten if the band did not feel the pressure to be commercial pop successful. When members are having extremely successful solo careers......they are not going to waste time and go back to the band if their music is not commercially successful. The White album, Rumours, and Tusk were much more organic and did not feel the fester and pressure to sell albums to counter solo careers. |

Read further up …. It reminds me of the movie THE RING just when you think it's safe....it begins again and will never end I think they needed an exorcism in that movie too  Not to scare anyone but I was watching Current Band concerts on youtube. Soon after Second Hand News the phone rang. "a whispering....Seven Wonders" No sh*t. If Stevie crawls out of my computer screen, I'm suing ! |

Poor Lindsey, doesn't have a pianist. Because pianists are such a rare breed these days. I mean, nobody plays piano anymore. Oh wait, what's that my friend is telling me? Even Stevie Nicks plays piano! And how could I forget? I also play piano! And Lindsey Buckingham plays it too. And so many others. So on your other point - it is completely true and fair. Stevie knew the four (three, sorry) other members wanted to tour in 2012 to mark the exact 35th anniversary of Rumours. She asked - or more likely, just told them how it was - for a delay of one year and got her wish. Rude, selfish, and totally not worth it, from what I hear the 2012 Heart and Soul Tour with Rod sucked. Lindsey has never had much chutzpah in the band, never had any say except for in the studio... oh, and on tour as well, organising setlists and running orders of albums... hmm... |

You're just going to have to accept, whether you like it or not, that FM cannot successfully continue unless Stevie Nicks is in the band. She can ask for another 3 years off after this tour and they will still be waiting for her when she returns. |

no-brand-name Buckingham McVie filled 3-5000 sheds same way as current FM is filling arenas (ie having somewhat of a hard time, same as Nicks / Pretenders girl-power-bill was having somewhat of a hard time filling arenas). so while Nicks name is the only recognizable among the classic 5 in the US, let's stay real. saying FM brand would barely fill 1k seaters is a complete and utter bs and people throw that out there just to belittle the band. plus, it always surprises me how some fans here seem to take the stand of what's best for the band /managers, and not what's best for the fans. y'all want to pay through the nose for a boring GH arena show, instead of seing your favorite in a more intimate setting doing more of their interesting deep cuts or new songs. i will never understand that. i will always prefer LB solo than LB with FM, there are so many more interesting tracks i can hear from him solo, plus he is so much more free to go off the cuff in that setting. lucky for fans like me, it looks like he's NGBA! :woohoo:  |

A lot of interesting points here. Ones I've been kicking around for the last few months. I totally agree--ticket sales for this tour are not up to FM standards. Yes they are selling, but scalpers were on the hook here and folks in the back of the arena were getting upgraded to better seats so it doesn't look so empty up front. Folks that would normally pay to be up front just aren't. Folks (even supporters of this lineup) are saying they aren't willing to pay the prices for this tour. If this is their "Farewell Tour" I would say it's not a success by "Farewell Tour" standards. They are not even going to Australia (as of yet) and one of their ringers is a local. Mick himself has said the band still needs to tighten some things up here. They are pulling out the songs that made this tour appealing, and new and different. I would have to think Mick will want one more tour --Christine could say she's out unless LB is back. I wouldn't be surprised. She's got nothing to lose. Azoff might be able to strong arm Stevie here too to make it happen. |

it's interesting to read people's posts still being puzzled why are most hardcore FM fans not "moving on". in order to move on you gotta have some type of closure. we had band's lies and then Lindsey's lawsuit with a very different version of what happened. and then band settling lawsuit as fast as they could (after bsing "we will see you in court!), in a way that gave Lindsey most of what he asked for which tells you he had a great case - he was right & they were wrong.
so in order to move on, band would have to apologize to Lindsey and eat back their lies. Stevie and Mick in particular. that would provide a closure, to be able to move on. |
