New solo album - yes or no?
Will Stevie release any new music before she carks it?
At the very least she should release My Mother's Rings which she wrote where Barbara died. |

Verb. (third-person singular simple present carks it, present participle carking it, simple past and past participle carked it) (UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, slang) To die. The guy was running, then he had a heart attack and carked it. Wow. I don't know. What do you think secret love? You say she should, but do you think she will? |
I have a feeling she will not. Low sales and I think she has no recording contract anymore after 24KG fulfilled her requirements for the last one. She will not bother if they won't sell well.
It is sad to see someone with such a massive back catalogue of unreleased songs, many of which are brilliant, fade out with only 8 albums to her credit. She could have 8 more. |

Never say never, she might. She certainly doesn't seem interested in it tho. |
I have a feeling that she may try to do something solo (album or tour) to reingratiate herself to the masses after this last Fleetwood Mac debacle. I'm hoping for a recording, but will probably just get a concert.
|
I don't think she will. Lack of sales really got to her, she even said so herself recently that she doesn't even write as much anymore since no one wants to buy new music. She'll probably continue to do collabs like the Lana del Rey and Leann Rimes songs and little things here and there like the Gypsy rerecording and that one movie theme song, but I don't think she'll do a new album/new music. Maybe later down the line she'll release another Crystal Visions type of thing with some bonus 'new' songs/rercorded old demos but I really don't see her putting out a new album with new material. Obviously I could be wrong though.

I think she should just focus on singles. Don't stress about a full album. Put out two or three good songs as they're ready, and be satisfied that you're making your true fans happy.
|
Don't rule out a 'Stevie Nicks & The Heartbreakers' album at some stage. A dream come true for Stevie and an ongoing gig for the band.
That said, I've mostly enjoyed her one-off side projects such as "Your Hand", "Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems", "Gypsy" and "Borrowed" (which I just realised I've already listened to 89 times on iTunes!). The upcoming collaborations with Mike Campbell could be promising because she'll no longer be getting his scraps that Tom didn't want. Having said that, I'd be more than intrigued with the results of any work undertaken between her and Neil Finn - such a duo could be astounding. |

This!! Other artists are doing the same. This would be more economical and satisfying for fans. |
My ideal would be a 24KG2, but it is really unlikely I guess. We will probably get another retrospective concert or box set or something at some point. Don't know why she is so afraid of recording, 24KG took only like 2 weeks and received critical acclaim. Maybe she hates to pay for the production and not profit.

She does sound good on those collaborations, but IMO she sounded heinous on 24K Gold, with a few exceptions. Where as I thought she sounded great on In Your Dreams. If she were to do another 24K Gold, I really think she should just have the old demos remastered and then maybe add 2 brand new songs rather than re-recording the old stuff. |

Agree with the 24KG fans here for sure. The album has weak spots, they all do. But the great thing about it, in contrast to eg. TISL or IYD, is that it is all Stevie all the time, really, no cowrites trying too hard to be radio hits, no covers, just a blast of her unique perspectives and genius. Plus it has more than one juicy ballad, my favourite genre from her always. They really suit her current vocal abilities.
If she did a sequel I would grab it instantly. I hope she does. |

I personally hope she does put out a solo album or a string of strong singles...but I hope it is after the FM tour and at least the release of a few songs from this new line up. I want to hear what they sound like in the studio. I think it will be AMAZING!!

Totally agree. I need to hear Stevie and Christine together again on new songs!

I thought Nicks has said that she wants to do "Songs From the Vault Vol. 2"?

Stevie really benefitted from working with Dave Stewart, he got her recording and creating again. Sadly, the word is that she was angry at his memoirs and so the relationship is over. This means she has nobody to work with on any new material.

Either way I don't think she's 'mad' at him about that or anything particular but I do think that he's pretty much done with because that's just usually how it is with Stevie and her producers-- for whatever reason they just don't last. I also think (but this is just my own speculation) that she was pretty upset over what she likely took as poor sales for IYD and especially 24KG and maybe later on internally placed some blame on him for it? Especially after 24KG, she might've been thinking to herself how that was her second album in a row with him and it's sold even worse. She also wasn't very happy about the rushed recording process. For me personally I won't really miss it, even though Stevie obviously did enjoy recording with him very much at the time, I just never really cared for a lot of his production on her songs. To me it was quite generic. But that might just be me, I haven't liked much of the production on most of Stevie's solo work in a long, long time. |

I also thought All The Beautiful Worlds sounded remarkably like an 80s vocal. I really did not care for the redo of If You Were My Love though. Among other things, I think the “my hands reach for numbers” line should have stayed in. I found it delightfully old fashioned. Did anyone else find the addition of the Lady Antebellum guy on Blue Water a little weird? I really thought she didn’t like him very much after all of his goofiness on Crossroads... Plus, I think she ruined one of her best ballads - Blue Water was always to me a meditation on loneliness. It sucks the sadness out to put some weird blues background vocal and drums on it... Maybe it’s a Nashville thing though. |

The title track and She Loves Him Still are my favorites. Mabel Normand, Cathouse Blues and Belle Fleur are alright. |

One of the tracks on 24 Karat — If You Were My Love — is the worst thing I've ever heard on a Stevie Nicks solo album. It was a cool song when Fleetwood Mac tracked it for Mirage. But this one is pure stunk. The vocal sounds like something on its last legs, or maybe something that has already expired, dragged along the ground behind a body wagon during the Plague. The music wobbles back and forth between a tonic and a second, but literally never resolves. It gives you the sense of being trapped in a sound nightmare when your brain can't think of an ending. Not the sort of thing you'd put to an abysmally slow tempo, but that's what they did here. It's like watching a tortoise walk. Unbelievably bad judgment. Did they release this as a terrible in-joke, or was everyone in the room too afraid to say how bad it was? Is it the first song in history to be included by dint of embarrassed silence? |
I absolutely love "If you were my love" from 22kg. I think it's beautiful

Are there any Stevie ballads you like or is it all midtempo stuff? |
I'm still hoping she puts the re-recorded Gypsy on iTunes or Amazon. I would love to hear it in full and add to my collection!
