Tour dates announced slowly

And so the tour dates begin

bwboy 04-24-2018 02:27 PM

Nov 28...but I'm sure there will be earlier dates.

Mr Scarrott 04-24-2018 02:56 PM

Well, I suppose the band members were never going to get alphabetical billing were they?

It's hard not to feel as if you've been kicked in the guts watching that, no offence to Neil and Mike. I have to add the caveat that we don't know all the facts yet...and may never do.

Trying to look on the comical side, it's rather like watching those Soviet propaganda photos that removed Trotsky from history. And I'm not saying that anyone resembles Stalin in the band. Not much, anyway...

And you couldn't even manage a group shot?

Oh Well, indeed.

Tour dates are now w Lindsey?

Otherwise this is wrong forum for post-rumours tour dates.

Actually Stalin in his youth looked like this:

Apparently we need a new sub forum then because if that is the right place to put them, then according to the sub title, Billy, Rick, Bekka and Dave are touring with them.

Yes, looks like it..I've filmed it on my phone just in case.Maybe it's because it's not actually on ticketmaster yet as advertised.

Song snippets (studio) were the Chain, YMLF, Rhiannon, Don't Stop and Oh Well to end.

"Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Neil Finn, Mike Campbell- Fleetwood Mac"

November 28 Talking Stick Resort Arena

Taglines " The legacy continues with all the songs you know and love"

"The Mac is back"

Carefully selected video from the Isle of Wight Festival, plus one which might have been of a solo Stevie show- brief video shots of Neil and Mike on stage(not together)..collage of the six members.. orange blossom/ bare trees/ penguins

What you would expect really....

Although there was some really good guitar work going on that I could hear...

Oh yeah, one other thing, dislikes defeated likes four to one and all eight comments were negative, in view of LB's departure.

BigAl84 04-24-2018 07:18 PM

That video was a piece of garbage and how ironic they are using the penguin stuff on the red background as the new marketing materials. It would take too much effort to get everyone in the same room for a photo. It doesn't involve getting paid so why do it.

I know, I sound jaded as hell, but this is some major crap.

Umm…How is it ironic that they’re using the penguin?

BigAl84 04-24-2018 07:28 PM

Because it was the only thing they had left to use besides some candid group shot with a news anchor in the middle. Half a$$ed garbage as usual.

treasonous.

and had to laugh hearing linds' vocals that they tried to scrub off unsuccessfully. not to even mention the guitar.

it was 8 likes and 26 dislikes when they took it down.

I’m sure they’ve been busy doing stuff like learning songs and rehearsing for a tour.

No disrespect when I say this, I can't swallow the cool aid anymore. They can do whatever they want but everyone knows it is what it is.

SteveMacD 04-24-2018 08:28 PM

Whose drinking Kool Aid (and, technically, it was Flavor Aid, if you even get where the reference comes from)?

I was mad last year when they didn’t just quietly give Stevie the boot for not participating. I was told it really didn’t matter who the album was credited to, and should just enjoy it. However, I saw the writing on the wall. Fleetwood Mac being anything but an oldies act dominated by someone who clearly has nothing new to say or offer the world went out the window then. As such, and very understandably, the creative force within the band very publicly started viewing it as just a gig, not that everyone else hadn’t also become complacent. Sorry nobody else saw it coming.

For me, the silver lining is that they got top shelf talent and the fact that they CAN’T be on autopilot this tour. That alone makes it compelling.

As for Lindsey, I’d rather see him in a setting where he can be engaged with the audience than doing something that is clearly forced. Fleetwood Mac was becoming forced for him.

If it was forced, Lindsey would have left on his own terms.

I think Lindsey wanted to stay in Fleetwood Mac and the main reason it felt like it was becoming forced was because not since SYW have they toured behind new music. He's one of those people who is too much of an *artist* to be able to actually enjoy doing one oldies/greatest hits tour after another. If you look at his interviews for years before the BuckVie album, you can see how often he talked about wanting to do a final FM album. I think he reaaaaaally wanted it and was very upset it didn't happen.

Not really. I think he would have continued if only because it would have been a big payday and there was light at the end of the tunnel as far as ever having to do it again.

I disagree. I think he may have had his issues with Stevie, but he still truly loved being part of the band, of his road family.

BigAl84 04-24-2018 09:33 PM

I will gladly eat my own words on this...while I agree that there is some amazing talent between Mike and Neil, having them shoehorned into this band does not guarantee anything new and exciting. In terms of touring, I think this group has perfected the art of auto pilot. I will believe it when I see it, but I'm extremely hesitant to think we will get anything but the 2014-2015 tour rebooted with some awkward substitutions.

No doubt on some level, but I think he wanted it to be a full working band. When it was absolutely clear that was never going to be the case, his enthusiasm for it went out the window. And, I would be disappointed in him if that wasn’t the case.

It has been in the back of my mind now for several years, just how many of these rehash tours is he going to be ok with doing. I always thought he would draw the line somewhere (again) The classic west/east shows may have been a realization for him.

No.

Neil Finn and Mike Campbell playing together, regardless of what the band is called, would be something I’d have to check out. That they’re playing with a couple of McVies in a band I’ve loved for over thirty years makes this a no-brainer. You really expect me to not see John McVie and Mike Campbell on the same stage?

Look, sorry Lindsey not being in Fleetwood Mac anymore is this hard for you. I was there when Billy Burnette, Bekka Bramlett, and Dave Mason were fronting the band, and I still really enjoyed it.

bombaysaffires 04-24-2018 09:54 PM

perhaps not surprising that the first show announced is in Phoenix, Stevie's home town. Testing the friendly waters first.

You certainly earned your stripes if you could
enjoy that.

If I had been considering going to see the Mac (with Lindsey),
I'm surely not going to now.

Maybe I'm ageist, but they are all just too old for me to care.

What wasn’t to enjoy? It’s not like Stevie was at her best during everything leading up to that era. Bekka brought energy to the shows, and she and Billy sounded amazing together. Their chemistry was every bit as pure as anything Fleetwood Mac ever had. I also really liked how Billy’s rhythm playing meshed in with Mick and John. Looking back, I’d rather they had focused on new material (which I’d be saying now if LB hadn’t gotten booted, BTW) and have gotten Mick Taylor (who I could get how he’d fit in with the band) on lead guitar. (Oh okay, I just wanted to hear Bekka and Billy rock “Gimme Shelter”, and Mick Taylor in the band would have given it credibility…)

1. But Stevie hasn't been her best since '83.

2. I like Bekka and Billy. They are both talented. Just not in FM.

Truth be told, I haven't agreed with Steve's stance on this new lineup, AT ALL, but I do agree with his assessment of the Time lineup. Imo, Bekka IS the greatest singer that FM ever had. She's a freaking powerhouse, with pipes to die for. I truly enjoyed the one show I saw, and it's a shame they weren't given more of a chance to flourish.

Vince Gill would probably agree with you.

I hated the Time album except for Bekka's
one song.

And I can't stand Dave Mason, but her wailing on the end of Blow By Blow was just f*cking phenomenal! Truly AMAZING.

Yeah, but especially after her TITN songs, the Red Rocks & TITN concert videos, her BTM songs, her listless performances during the BTM tour, the new songs on Timespace, and Paper Doll, I was thoroughly over Stevie Nicks by 1992. The best I can say about her during that time was OSOTM had a few really good songs on it and I liked her backing vocals on that B.B. King song. Now, in retrospect, I know she was dealing with issues that weren’t public knowledge, but I was 18 in 1992, and I don’t know if that would have mattered. Stevie was a far cry from 1975-83.

By 1994, Bekka was a breath of fresh air, and the chemistry she and Billy had was something I thought they could have built upon. Christine was largely checked out and Dave was creative dead weight, but I think the others could have developed the band in a really cool new direction if Mick could have gotten out of “Rumours” mode. The Americana thing was starting to bubble up. Put someone like Mick Taylor in on lead guitar, one of the granddaddies of the country meets blues, rock, and pop, and I think the possibilities would have been endless.

Quote:

People said the same thing about Bob and Christine at one point…. However, Peter and Jeremy went away and stayed away, letting the others develop something new. Lindsey not so much. Do you think Lindsey would have ever approached Mick to play on what was GoS if OOTC had been successful, and would Mick have been responsive if the new lineup had caught on?

Quote:

They’ve known each other since she was like three. Their dads were friends. There’s a picture of Dorsey and Delaney playing together. They’re cut from the same cloth. Hell, they have the same initials and the same number letters in their names, and comparable portions of vowels and consonants. Bekka once said that she was more familiar with Billy’s albums than Fleetwood Mac’s.

If not for hearing Bob’s Split Enz/Crowded House comp and, well, Mike Campbell (the Ron Jeremy of guitar porn), I probably would hate it, too.

When it was rumored that Mike was the new guitarist, I didn’t totally hate it. If it’s not going to be Lindsey, who could they have gotten that was better? I didn’t think they really needed anyone else, and really hated when it came out that there was going to be another guitarist/lead male vocalist.

However, they got someone I could totally get behind. Neil is a true artist. To put it another way, when a songwriter who has released over 100 albums thinks highly enough of another writer to make a comp of that writer, that puts Neil Finn’s worthiness into perspective. And, I have long maintained that “Don’t Dream It’s Over” was the best pop song of the 1980s.

To be sure, I’m not a fan of what happened, but I wasn’t especially shocked by it. That said, whatever happened had nothing to do with Neil or Mike, so I can’t hold it against them. And, I’m impressed that Fleetwood Mac didn’t completely embarrass themselves this time.

This isn't Crowded House, or Tom Petty's Fajita Roundup. As much as I liked the Time incarnation, once everything came back together in 97, Fleetwood Mac's legacy was cemented forever. Especially when Christine came back.

It's too late for reinvention. They're completely embarrassing themselves doing this. They're gonna look like cheap whores doing this.
