Will Nickswood Mac have the courage to play The Chain?
Or has that song had it's final concert performance?
|
Oh I am virtually certain they will. If they played it in 1987 and they played it without Christine then they can play it without Lindsey again. This band has never had a sense of what some people call delicadeza, or decency for that matter.
|
Why not? How about Lindsey’s ‘“on with the show”? Or as I called it in another thread “on with the faux”. Disgusting.
|
Of course they will.
They played it at hundreds of shows during the tours w/o Buckingham in the late 80's/early 90's. And I know Mike Campbell will do an amazing job on the solo. |
Replacements are very talented people, but they are not Lindsey.
|
Yes, sure of it..
And maybe play Never going back again differently. (hopefully) |
Oh I’d lay money down on it being there and Go Your Own Way too. Stevie might even add a few extra “wellllll’s” on The Chain. And hopefully still harmonize the packing up shacking up line in GYOW. It will be riveting.
|
Perhaps "never break the chain" has a different meaning in the strange ethereal parallel universe of FleetwoodMacdom than it does in the real world where actual people live.
And yes it is a thunderous irony that the man who wrote "On with the Show" and standing by his band would be the one who is expelled. Fleetwood Mac is irony proof. |

I don't think they will do The Chain. Here are some more I DON'T see them doing:
Go Your Own Way Never Going Back Again ANYTHING from SYW Big Love Anything from Tusk, except Tusk |
The casual fan is going to freak out if he or she spends $500 to go to a Fleetwood Mac concert and not hear The Chain or Go Your Own Way. The backlash will be even more intense than it is now.

They will play the Chain.
I knew things were nasty and stated they will not do any Lindsey songs and I would include Go Your Own Way. If he is suing them for termination, I don't think they will make it worse to perform that song. They may do World Turning as the closer or Don't Stop. This is not 1987 where Lindsey left and wished them well, worked on BTM and performed Landslide with Stevie in 1990. I have been taking heat for bashing this Crowded House guy. I don't like his music but let me explain why. He has no rock roots. He was part of a new wave cheezy pop sound of the late 80s. At least Campbell has deep rock roots. This Crowded House guy is just weird IMHO. |

I'm curious about something, sincerely: you seem ok with Mike Campbell joining because he has "deep rock roots." That implies to me that maybe if FM has replaced LB with someone you approved of, you would give the band a chance. Is that accurate, or do you think it wouldn't have mattered who they replaced LB with, you'd never give the band a chance? |

Neither is true. I don't approve of Campbell replacing Lindsey either. Crowded House is one of the worst new wave pop bands I have ever heard in my life. I said that before Lindsey was fired and I say that now. I am sorry if that bothers people. Calling him the Crowded House guy is hardly bashing someone. I sometimes forget his name as I am typing (is the real reason). Oh I surely direct my feelings towards all members of Fleetwood Mac especially Stevie and Mick. They are to blame for Lindsey's firing. I don't blame the Crowded House guy at all. Good for him. Its an exciting thing for him. I don't care for his music or his voice but it really does not matter who they replace Lindsey with. Talking about Crowded House music is really just an afterthought. |

Frankly, I think it's almost funny that no one is as outraged at Christine as they are at Stevie and Mick. Christine just recorded an album with Lindsey and went on a several month tour with him, they were blowing kisses at each other and talking about how great and wonderful their collaboration was and appeared on several tv shows together. Maybe John and Christine felt intimidated by Stevie and were afraid to speak up? Maybe they wanted Lindsey out? Maybe there's a lot we don't know. |

I know you are smart. The Stevie/Lindsey saga has went on for 40 years. What I don't get is how so many paint Stevie as some victim. She is one of the most power women in rock and has one of the most successful careers in the music industry. She is NOT a helpless victim that so many make her out to be. Stevie refused to join Fleetwood Mac in the studio and made up fairy tales that I know you are smart enough to not believe. She does not get along with Lindsey and vice versa. There is no doubt in my mind Stevie threw down the gauntlet and said I will not tour with Lindsey. She made up a story about not recording with Lindsey but she cant use that same story about not selling tickets because everyone knows the tour will sell tickets. Several months ago Lindsey was the MOST optimistic about Fleetwood Mac's future saying there were many more tours coming. Mick was not so sure but Lindsey did not want to call it quits. The same Stevie that refused to come into the studio with Lindsey also refused to go on the road with Lindsey. Yes they fight and they both do unfair stuff to each other. If the Mac fired Stevie over Lindsey my point would be exactly the same. I am not the one with the double standard. This is wrong and it needs to be called out. Christine is gutless just like she was with Bob Welch. She betrayed her musical mentor and dream guitarist. I mention Mick and Stevie because I expect this from them the most. I don't get it when you say there is lots we don't know. Really? Stevie lied to get out of recording with Fleetwood Mac. She kept extending her tour to not deal with it. Then she went on vacation for 3 months. The SAME reason she did what she did about the album is the SAME reason she did this with the tour. There is no mystery here. |
Of course they'll play The Chain. That baseline is John's iconic moment to shine! They've gotta to it!
Fleetwood Mac is a chain with links going every which way and some rusted and falling off... They've played the song without Lindsey and they've played the song without Christine. (I have no idea what the setlist was on their county fair circuit days, but they probably played it then too...). Regardless, I'm sure the band is more concerned with the fact that the general public are going to expect the song than they are concerned with whether it's lyrically a little silly to sing about never breaking the chain after giving your longtime guitarist the boot. |
The Chain
The Chain can't get axed. What else would they open with after doing it for the last twenty plus years?
And having to drop some of the other Lindsey songs isn't a bad thing...Big Love is just such a pain to get through anymore. |

They've got plenty of money. Do another Buck Vie album, and tour doing that for the rest of your days. |

How bad could he suck? He received an OBE. To put that into context, none of the other Brits have been awarded an OBE, even with their storied career. |

A lot of their early work was considered new wave. Of course they were pop. I don't like them, sorry if it bothers you. I never liked any of their music. Look at their Wikipedia page. It also classifies them as new wave/pop. I was a teenager in the late 80s and there were lots of crappy British new wave acts that were one hit wonders similar to Crowded House. Its not my cup of tea. Sorry. Perhaps they should have also hired the guitarist from Madness. Then they could have played OUR HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR STREET right after Sara... when you build your house call me.

My copy of the BuckVie CD is going the way of my FM CDs to the used CD shop. I am probably the only one in my country to have a copy :D |

By this logic then Leelee Buckingham's post on IG about her father has nothing to do with his firing. The Penguin with the red background on FB is just in my imagination, and really nothing is going on, since the Penguin isn't saying anything. QED!

But Mick and Stevie had been plotting his firing since Musicares. Maybe even before that. The big fight between Lindsey and Stevie took place at Musicares. It was a stupid fight over a stupid thing, but we all know Stevie knows how to push Lindsey's buttons. And she gave Mick an ultimatum. I can't understand poeople saying we still don't know what happened. Yes, we know what happened, and that's why we blame them. End of the story. I understand it's a hard pill to swallow for Stevie's fans, but even his own family are supporting Stevie's bashing, so what else is there to say? |

Lindsey's own daughter is supporting the Stevie bashing? Gosh, I'm so shocked- the rumours Stevie masterminded this plan to fire Lindsey for the last 40 years really must be true, then! I'm simply stunned that Lindsey's own daughter is supporting him! I mean, who would have ever seen that coming? But I'm still not convinced Lindsey is in the right- not until I hear from Lindsey's wife and son! Surely the fact that they haven't said anything to support Lindsey means they sided with Christine, John, Mick, and Stevie, right?
Folks, please keep it real here. Yes, Lindsey's daughter supports her father's side of this. I'm sure his entire family does. And I'm sure John's wife supports his side of this. And Mick's wife supports his side of this. Seeing people say "look, it must be true, Lindsey's daughter liked a comment that said we love Lindsey" is embarrassing when they try to say this somehow proves something. She liked the comment because she loves her father and appreciated that other people are also expressing their love for him. Many fans are mad he was fired, and she's mad, too. |
It IS a hard pill for SN fans to swallow but SHE has changed the last few years. Gotten bitter and wallows in the adulation. I know people say I always bash her, but you have to remember i was the BIGGEST fan of hers ever. But when someone starts acting in a manner that is embarrassingly ungrateful, I BAIL. And Bail I did.

I mean, real legitimate music and celebrity media outlets aren't consistent in saying whether he was fired or walked. Even if I think it likely that he was fired/asked to leave/told "thanks no thanks", I don't think I've seen actual press reporting (not family members or "this dude that knows Tom Petty") as to the reasons. Someone point me in the direction of actual media reporting where Stevie gave some ultimatum. And of course Lindsey's family will support his side. Someone ask Lori Nicks who was in the wrong. Fleetwood Mac is/was made up of five divas (or maybe three divas, a half-diva and John). Drama has long been the name of the game. Honestly nothing that comes out to explain this split will surprise me...but there's a whole lot of info being tossed around as fact that I haven't see actually reported as such. |
