I LOVE:
Love in Store
Book of Love
Gypsy
That's Alright
Straight Back
Eyes of the World

I LIKE:
Hold Me
Wish You Were Here
Can't Go Back
Only Over You

I DISLIKE:
Empire State
Oh Diane

I see I am one of the few that likes Book of Love. I think this is one of Lindsey's few songs where be put his heart on his sleeve. Oh Diane, to me, just doesn't sound like a FM song to me and I don't like Lindsey's voice on it. And it's interesting to see that Stevie's songs rate so high, but I'll be the first to say Lindsey did a phenomenal job with them!

I think I recall Richard saying on Truth & Consequences this song originally came from him. He'd started writing the words to the song (inspired by Mary Torrey Devitto???) and then Lindsey came on board and completed it. RD described it as his most significant songwriting moment. I don't know whether this is true, perhaps Lindsey might say otherwise.

I remember that too, he wrote the lyrics inspired by the break-up with his then girlfriend whose name I don't remember but she was a TV actress who starred in one of those well-known 80's tv dramas. She left him for a South American tycoon or something to that extent, and the heartbreak prompt him to write the words, while Lindsey wad the one who did all the musical part if I remember well.

And I like Book of Love too.

1. Gypsy
2. Love in Store

4. Eyes of the World

(The rest is good but not on the same level as the first four):

5. Only Over You

7. Straight Back
8. Book of Love
9. Can't Go Back
10. Wish You Were Here
11. Empire State
12. Oh Diane

Wow this is hard.

Love in Store - a simple love song but the harmonies still make me melt
Straight Back - pure Stevie magic, the writing, the music, the Christine backing vocals still give me goosebumps
Gypsy - played to death but one of the best Mac songs ever - best bridge on any song
Hold Me - pure pop greatness Amazing piano and melody - great guitar solo too
Wish you were here - love it
Only over you - a dreamy love haze song
That's Alright - could almost be a country cross over
Empire State
Cant Go Back
Eyes of the World - much better live
Oh Diane
Book of Love

I love all the songs and it was hard ranking them

Wdm6789 03-03-2017 05:54 PM

Gypsy
Hold Me
Only Over You
That's Alright
If You Were My Love (if they kept working on it and cleaned it up more. I would trade Straight Back for a more polished If You Were My Love)

Thanks for the scoop about Book of Love, FuzzyPlum and SisterNightroad! That even explains why it doesn't 'seem' like a Lindsey song, at least lyrically.

I can't rank this album. I like all the tracks just some better than others. I will put them in 3 buckets (1. Favs 2. Greats and the Mirage box set versions make me like some of them even more. 3. "like it")

1. Love in Store, Gypsy, Hold Me, That's Alright, Eyes of the World
2. Book of Love, Wish You Were Here, Empire State,Can't Go Back, Straight Back and Oh Diane.
3. Only Over You

Yes, it was her. In my country she's famous for Dynasty and for appearing on the cover of the national equivalent of Playboy.

I love Mirage, it came out in my last year in High School. Ranked in order of preference and quality to my ears:

1. Gypsy- best produced Stevie Nicks track of the era. I've heard a lot of casual fans give this a lot of love.
2. Hold Me- One of Christine McVie's best pop songs still sounds great almost 35 years later.
3. Straight Back- See where I'm going with this, Stevie and Christine steal the show on Mirage.
4. Love in Store- Great opener and almost as good as Hold Me.
5. That's Alright- Didn't know it was an older demo at the time, but loved the vocal and country tinges. It really works for Stevie and too bad they didn't explore this side of her writing a little more over the years.
6. Empire State- I like this groovy little song and think it's Lindsey's high point on the record.
7. Wish you were Here- Nice ballad and could have been a radio hit with a little editing- in the vein of Over My Head.
8. Eyes of the world- Nice little harmony.
9. Book of Love- A little too cliche for my tastes but not a bad song
10. Only Over You- to me one of Christine's weaker songs, but not bad by any means.
11. Can't go Back- Lindsey needed a really good song early in the record and this one falls a bit flat.
12. Oh Diane- Not that I don't like it, it just is not up to the quality of his earlier work.

BLY 03-05-2017 10:12 AM

Ok....All bets off. I'm listening to Mirage in 5.1 SS. AMAZING! All of the tracks. I'm sure any long time MAC fans out there that listen to these versions are with me. It's like listening to these albums for the first time.

The songs I almost always listen to:
1. Gypsy: Perfection. Some of Stevie's best vocals
2. Love in Store: Easy song to listen and hum along to, although I did prefer the livelier Mirage Tour version. Wouldn't be as notable if it didn't have all three members singing together.
3. Straight Back: I really shouldn't like this song as much as I do, as it's meandering structure would normally turn me off. But the layered vocals and keyboards always take me somewhere else.
4. Eyes of the World: Better in every live incarnation but still Lindsey's best song on the album. The guitar solo is one of his best.

Here are the ones that I sometimes skip but still generally like:
5. Hold Me: I used to despise this one but I've gradually grown fond of it. The Early Version helped me to do that a lot, as I thought it was fantastic. I also liked the boots of this song from McVie's solo tour and wished they'd sung it like that in the Mirage Tour.
6. That's Alright: it's a nice song, but the Alternate Version is bumped up a place or two
7. Book of Love: I always forget this song exists unless it randomly pops up. Not big on the verses but I do like the angsty chorus.
8. Oh Diane: Dumb song, but I really like the way the guitar sounds. At least it's short :) The lip-synced performance of this on Top of the Pops is also hilarious. I love it when Stevie and Christine try and pretend to sing that heavily-altered harmony.

These I almost always skip
9. Cant Go Back: I really like the instrumental of this song but the lyrics do nothing for me at all
10. Wish You Were Here: Very middle of the road McVie song. I feel nothing for it.
11. Only Over You: Really I like most of the song but those wails at the beginning... Chill me to the bone.

And finally, I HATE this song:
12. Empire State: So annoying. Embodies the worst of Lindsey's experimental side.

05. Straight Back

6. Can't Go Back
7. Only Over You (alternate version)

I think "Smile At You" should have made the album in place of one of the Buckingham songs, "Book Of Love" IMO.
