Time for 24KG 2
With the FM members releasing a new album it is time for Stevie to do 24KG2. She will be coming off a successful solo tour with plenty of critical acclaim and popularity.
|
I would love that.
|
I hope so. Releasing a part 2 right after such a successful tour might boost sales enough to prove to her that making records is worth it:nod:. Plus i really want her to record more demos, especially my favorite, Julia.
|
I don't, if she records 24K Part 2 she proves that she can't, or isn't interested in writing new songs anymore.
|
What do you want, "The Kennedys"? Unless Dave Stewart and Mike Campbell are available, there won't be any original Stevie compositions coming our way anytime soon.
|
She does not have a contract to fulfill. If she does this, I will be mad she did not participate and make a FM album. That certainly would have sold better.
|
I'd like to see 24g 2 with:
City of Hope Julia Sanctuary One More Tomorrow Chanel Chanel It's Not A Dream Baby Doll Something Exquisite Jimmy Come Back Tied Up In Promises |
I think the biggest letdown in the final chapters of FM and Stevie's careers would be to see the incredibly creative and beautiful songs of hers that are still unreleased stay in the vault forever. The way to solve this is to have at least one more fast session in Nashville with the wrecking crew and get them out there. In a box set if need be. That would be Stevie's crowning achievement, leaving a legacy that no other female singer songwriter can match. Whether they sell tons is not the point. It is to stay relevant and cement your place in the history books all at once.
|
She needs to do a musical about Rhiannon (forget the ballet). Her songs for that effort are so ripe for a Broadway show.... Birds of Rhiannon and Forest of the Black Roses and even the ones she's already done here and there.. Rhiannon, Sisters, etc.
She can't re-record most of them now because her voice is just too changed with age...her voice was in exquisite form when she recorded the demos, but they are too beautiful to leave sitting in a box in a storage unit in Phoenix. (and way better than claptrap like Tied up in Promises) C'mon, girl, make it happen! |
If she won't do a FM album, then I'd prefer her do a sequel album than just cash grab tour after tour.
Hell, we still have some tracks that could do with some updating; Gold & Braid, Mirror Mirror, Julia, Joan of Arc, Baby Doll, ect ect. |
In fact, skip the stupid FM world tour and focus on your own career now, Stevie. This is your time. FM is over. Record and release great stuff and go out with a bang as Stevie Nicks.

I'm sorry to say, but Stevie has NO INTENTION of recording these days. She's recently stated herself that she doesn't write that many songs anymore, and that she doesn't want to record because records don't sell. In her mind, she's accumulated plenty of legendary recordings in her back catalog to tour forever. That's exactly her plan. |
And she'll keep guesting on other artist's recordings so she doesn't foot the bill for the studio. It also keeps her "legend among artists" status going. She's got what works for her figured out. It may not make us all happy, but she is and that's what matters to her. I'll keep seeing her sets and FM sets as long as they keep mixing it up a little.

In a different thread, SLN1 predicted:

SLN1 also separately and correctly predicted that Stevie would be recording a new version of Gypsy (which I believe will be released in connection with the upcoming Netflix series). So the question is: did SLN1 also correctly predict a new album? Curious what inside info this member has, and whether they have any additional insights to offer  |

She's not angry at "the kids," nor is she upset at her record sales, given the current nature of the industry. At this stage in her career, she simply can't justify the downsides of recording with FM - a view that at this point, she's entirely entitled to have. I have no doubt that she's not through with her solo recording career. My only hope is that she takes advantage of this time away from FM by moving on it now. Just my two cents. :xoxo: |
Maybe instead of 24K II, she can work on remastered/expanded editions of Rock-A-Little and The Other Side of the Mirror?
|
The current music industry is in a terrible state in regards to physical album sales. Streaming is the new thing. I admit, I do it. I still like to buy CD's though.
All of this aside, Stevie Nicks can still sell an album. 24KG still sold over 100k in the US alone which is pretty good for an artist of her age. IYD sold over 200k which is really good. So she can still sell enough records to be considered a current successful artist. |
Another boringly produced album...no thanks. I listened to 24k once. So sterile and uninspired.
|
Listen again. It is possibly one of the best albums she has done. It was almost universally critically acclaimed. The songs are all hers and the production and delivery honest and convincing.
|
Funny how everyone was enthusiastic when 24K Gold first was out and now everyone seems to hate it instead. It still among my favourite album from Stevie..

I agree I love 24 Karat Gold. I would definitely rank it higher than TOSOTM, In Your Dreams, and Street Angel. Bella Donna and Wild Heart are my favorites but I might put 24 Karat Gold in a close tie with Rock a Little and TISL.

I liked the whole concept of the album but for me it's far too under-produced. I hope there's a different producer for the next one. I know they're supposed to be different styles of albums but if you listen to 24KG straight after TISL it's shocking and just sounds like a bunch of lazily put together demos that have been recorded in about 10 minutes.
It also doesn't help that TISL is a masterpiece that was produced to absolute perfection. In my opinion. |
I just don't hear the problems with 24KG production except that Stevie's voice sounds tired on several tracks and several of them such as The Dealer and Hard Advice are just dull songs anyway. What they did with some of the songs in a short time is totally amazing, IMO. If something similar were done with another truckload of old demos I would die happy.

But John and bluelight, in Destiny Rules, there was a scene where Lindsey made a comment to Lindsey about a lyric in Thrown Down, and Stevie said he would never say that to Bob Dylan. And there was an interview from 1998 where Stevie made a comment about Lindsey... LOL. Seriously, I know sometimes we make a lot of assumptions about why Stevie didn't work on this album, why Christine left, why Lindsey left, etc but sometimes there's a simple explanation, and what you said sounds right.
|
obviously everybody has their own opinion.... but ugh! IMO 24K seems SO amateurish. Seems like she went backwards with her songwriting .... which in fact she did.
