Stevie Nicks Wants a New Fleetwood Mac Tour, Not a New Fleetwood Mac Album
Stevie Nicks Wants a New Fleetwood Mac Tour, Not a New Fleetwood Mac Album
Danny ClinchStevie Nicks is currently out on her 24 Karat Gold tour, promoting her recent solo album. But as far as recording a new album with Fleetwood Mac, Stevie believes the band shouldn't waste their time. Before Fleetwood Mac launched their most recent tour, they worked on some new tracks without Stevie. While Mick Fleetwood suggested the tracks might be released with just Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie singing, Stevie doesn't buy it. "You can never say never, but I don’t think that will happen," she tells ABC Radio. That doesn't mean Stevie's ready to join her bandmates in the studio, though. "The only reason that I don’t really wanna do a record is because I think that, in a year and a half, we’ll probably go out and do another Fleetwood Mac tour, since Christine has come back," she explains. Christine McVie rejoined Fleetwood Mac in 2014 after a 16-year absence. Stevie thinks touring is the better plan, simply because of Fleetwood Mac's dynamics. "Do we want to go and close ourselves up in a studio for a year, [and] make a record that’s really good but that probably won’t sell, because records don’t really sell that much?" she asks. "And then we'll have been stuffed together for a year in one room, and...when you come out of that room, we may not want to go on a tour!" The logical solution, Stevie says, is to skip making a new record, and simply hit the road. "I think that we should choose the tour over the record," she tells ABC Radio. "Because touring is much more fun than making a record when you don’t have any idea how that record’s gonna come out." Stevie has time to figure out her next move: her tour doesn't wrap until December 18. http://www.wjbdradio.com/music-news/...wood-mac-album |

Stevie can't contribute much to the making of an album. Stevie is a singer/songwriter. But the largest part of making an album falls on the musicians, engineers, producers, etc. But still, most bands get an album out much quicker. None of this should be a surprise to any of us. We have known of the dynamics between a certain two-some in the band for decades. What might be best is for Fleetwood Mac to proceed without her, accomplish what they can. We have all heard Lindsey and Christine have already gotten together and made great strides. Having just two singer/songwriters on a Fleetwood Mac album gives them much more room. Stevie thinks touring is the better plan, simply because of Fleetwood Mac's dynamics. Stevie is willing to tour with Fleetwood Mac. They didn't allow Christine to be on the album without touring, despite knowing her fears. Will Fleetwood Mac allow Stevie to tour without being on the album? Who knows. How bad do they want Stevie to tour with them? Touring is where the real money is made. There's a handful of people on The Ledge that would be happy for the experience of Fleetwood Mac without Stevie. I use the term "handful" compared to the thousands that fill an arena. I don't think they will have to go to smaller venues. If the public doesn't know Stevie isn't in the band, they will still go because it's "Fleetwood Mac." When you buy your tickets, it's because you see an ad somewhere and learn the band is on tour. Advertisers won't say, "and by the way, Stevie Nicks won't be with them." They could do quite well. The band didn't collapse without Lindsey or Christine during their 'sabbaticals'. But for argument sake, lets say they find they can't sell out the big arenas. (I think they can.) There's a lot to be said for touring in an intimate venue with great musicians, which Christine, Lindsey, John and Mick are. Why spend more time being miserable for any of them? This is not a difficult decision for me. Obviously it is for Fleetwood Mac. Does it all come down to money? I think they will all be okay. |

And she just added 20 more tour dates, taking her into the end of March.
|
Now we had to drag that album topic over here. The good news is that she is adding more date to her current tour.
|
Love that she is coming to Columbus Ohio but it's time for Fleetwood Mac to set her free.
|
There's still no reason she can't pull a TITN and pop in for a couple of weeks to drop off some demos and record a few harmonies.
I don't even care if her heart's in it anymore. For the sake of the fans (if nothing else), they should churn out one final studio album now that all 5 are in the picture to bookend what's obviously the end of the line. |

My guess is that Stevie probably thinks that the band is getting old and there isn't much more time left for them to tour such big world tours, so she prefers to spend these last years on the road.
|
Well, she's always preferred the road to the studio. So that part is nothing new. I think the death of her mom is what truly set this mindset shift into motion. They died in their early 80s, so I'm sure she's looking at her own mortality and at the things she hasn't done yet. Life truly is short.

I figure It would be easier to record then tour at an older age.I guess wrong with FM.

I congratulate Stevie on a successful tour and extending it for 20 more dates. The new interview really frustrates me because of her hypocrisy. Does she not claim to be an artist anymore? She does not care about her passion for writing anymore? She sure signed on the dotted line a year ago for the HUGE Mac tour next year though. Her hypocrisy is hard to believe. Her last 2 solo albums were not commercially successful. But did she not want the world to hear her songs? How dare she use this hypocrisy about a future Mac album. This version of the Mac has not equally worked on a studio album since 1981-1982 for Mirage. Tango she was hardly there. How magical a Mac album worked together from all members would be. Then take it on the road to promote. Instead she wants to do a huge tour only for big bucks to sing Dreams, Landslide and Rhiannon for the ten millionth time? I still find it hard to believe she would be so vile to join the band for a tour but not the album. That would show she does not care for her craft anymore and only singing for big bucks. I actually would respect her more if she agreed to do the album but not agreed to the tour (yet). What about an attitude wanting to part of the Mac's final album.....to give back to a group that gave her so much and launched her into stardom. Be part of that final chapter. Just imagine if Waddy told Stevie a few years ago that he had no interest in working on 24K Gold because it was not going to sell well but "call me if you tour."

I am stunned! Thought 4 sure she would record. I just saw her n Detroit where she was amazing, best concert ever...there all good but this 1 oh my! I was hoping to see another show and now a date n Ohio Columbus my state yessssss! I want a Mac album 2, but I'm n it 4 Stevie...what makes her happy makes me happy! Luv ya girl! To those complaining her recent stuff hasn't sold well but it charted top 10. Mac with no Stevie may not even chart, so good luck with that! Stop raining on our Stevie fan parade! Luv y'all!

She needs to leave Fleetwood Mac and make another solo record.

My perspective: I don't think people appreciate just how difficult it must be for her to be around Lindsey. IMHO that's the reason she doesn't want to go into the studio and it has nothing to do with the music business and everything to do with having to choose between herself or Lindsey yet again. Not only are there the every day fights and jabs and musical differences between them, but there's also the fact that as she gets older, despite the fact that she and Lindsey are so irrevocably connected, he's married to someone else and has children with someone else, and she is alone, and it's not like they can still write love songs to each other. She says it herself in Thrown Down -- "like a barricade," time has forced them apart. It sounds like it's painful for her to try to work with Lindsey in the studio, to be around him so intimately for that amount of time when they can't be happy together. Part of me wonders if she's lost hope after album after album of love songs to this guy and now she's just moved on for good and doesn't want to go back to that same old routine of purgatory when she could be doing other, more exciting things. |

However what you said reminded me of something that she herself said in an interview and I remember it stood out to me because I thought it was such an interesting thing to say: You can get to a state of mind where you can be happy, but it will always be difficult. You can find a good thing and you can be sad that you can’t be together.’ They always knew how to wind each other up, she says. Still do. ‘I just don’t think we will ever be friends,’ she concludes. |
I'm not sure she has a new song left in her to write. That may also be part of her issue with a new album.

My hope is that she eventually comes around to the idea of at least having limited involvement. They don't need her around for the entire process. I'm also confused about why she's concerned about record sales again...didn't she say that with In Your Dreams she finally reached the conclusion that creating art was more important?
I'd really love for them to do another record together...but given that Stevie is playing the same venues that Fleetwood Mac usually plays, I think she holds the cards. |

These days with at home studios or she can go to Nashville with a FM producer or Dave S and dont have to see any of the Mac in person. In 3 weeks she can pump out 4 tunes and send her oohs and ahhs for the rest of the songs via internet.I know shes not a fan of the internet but I think this will work out with out the heat that builds up while with FM in the studio. When she give them 3 to 4 cuts and they dont like them. She can say .Oh well.I did my share.

ok this pisses me off.....she doesn't want to be part of any new FM recording sessions......but then doesn't want them to release whatever material they do without her either?? F. that.
I mean she and her lawyers can make a stink about them calling it FM ...so let them call it something else. You can't be the boss of everyone else in the band and hold them hostage to your preferences. If she doesn't want to record with them, fine. Clearly LB and Chris have recorded stuff. Who the eff is she to say that stuff can't get released?? Lindsey can release whatever the hell he wants as a solo album, and if it features collaborations with Chris, that's none of Stevie's mother flipping business. Sounds like Mick is the weak link in all of this, hoping that if he gives in to her she'll eventually come around. Doesn't seem likely from what she's saying, unless that's all public posturing and who knows what all is really going on in private.... (most likely there's a lot of palace intrigue going on as always). (edited to add, I think Chris is a weak link in this also. She seems to have mellowed over time, and clearly bugging out for 15 years loses you a lot of power in the group. She's said things in interviews since she's been back along the lines of not wanting to upset the other band members... just like when she was going to help Ken with his book and then backed out coz she didn't want to take a stand against LB's wishes. So she may be staying out of the fray as well. ) She doesn't get to call the shots on what the other two songwriters in the band can do with their own material. She is not however above using her infamous "I'll slam it in the media so hard" thing.....she used it against Lindsay Lohan and she's threatened it within FM "how's it gonna look when I tell the press how much I don't like this record" etc.... I've loved her forever but this **** really is pushing me away a lot lately.... if she doesn't want to do a FM record, fine, don't. I get it. But don't take the attitude that they can only do what you approve of even when you're not there. Bullsh&t.:mad::mad: |
Then why did she freaking record 24 k gold then!!!! She just says whatever sounds good at the time. You can't get in the studio for a few freaking weeks. You G damn well know you w0n't be in the studio for a year. You always come in for a few weeks with FM when it's the five. SICK of her. Ugh.

Disappointed
Cannot believe that I have paid $500 AUS for a ticket to see this selfish bitch perform. More than that, really, because I'm travelling to California from my home in Sydney to see her.
If she's intent on killing off any hope of one last Mac album, Stevie could at least record another solo album. Better still, do that and also give her blessing to Lindsey and Christine (plus Mick and John) to release a final Fleetwood Mac album without her. |

I understand where Stevie is coming from, They have such a catalog of songs and so many they can do they never did before live, I have an amazing time every show I have seen and will feel the same on the next shows to see from them and Stevie solo.
|
Another part that really irritates me is her pre-judging the record debating if it will be any "good."
Oh really? You don't think Chris, Mick and John with Lindsey make the most incredible music when they get together? Really? I always believed she would be in the studio with them but now I'm not so sure. I really cant believe she would have the nerve to tour with the band who is promoting an album she was not part of. I feel bad for Christine because I have a feeling she wants the Mac album more than any of them. And I know she wants Stevie there. |

looking at SN's timeline in that new interview, she's putting the start of the FM 5 tour in mid 2018. that gives them all plenty of time in 2017 to release any album they have, and FM 4 to tour separately from Stevie as much as they want. exciting times! |
Some people on here need to chill out
People here are reading a LOT into a few words. And the name-calling and anger are completely over-the-top and unnecessary.
Is it disappointing that there may never be another FM album with the five of them working together? Yeah, a bit. On the other hand, it is quite likely that the magic of old would not be captured on recording anyway. I very much doubt that anything they produce at this late date would have the sparkle, romance or intrigue of those first three albums. Even Mirage, as much as I sometimes like to hear it, doesn't quite match the white album, Rumours and Tusk. They were never really a BAND after the Mirage tour was over, maybe for a moment or two during The Dance year, but since then it really seems like they have been going through the motions. As much as I tried to like the Say You Will album, it never really stuck with me. Sometimes I think about putting it on but then I never do. I have to finally admit that there are a handful of songs there that I find vaguely interesting but not enough to pull out the CD package and play any of them. I don't think it's a bad piece of work, but I don't find it as compelling as the earlier work, so it stays in the cabinet. Finally, if you think someone is vile or selfish, why would you want their input on new work anyway? |
