For the first time Donald Trump seems Presidential.
Anyone listen to Donald Trump's acceptance speech last night?
I thought for the first time he sounded presidential. It's the best speech I've ever heard him give. If I had to describe it in one word it would be powerful. And well over 30 million tuned in. Like most conventions it was pretty much a snoozefest. With the exception of Rudy Giuliani. What Trump needed was a home run. And that's what he got. I'll let others argue about the facts he presented in the speech. And how we're going to accomplish what he promised. What one can't argue about is the passion in which he gave the speech. And how it moved the audience. He took command last night like no one I've seen in recent history. A powerful America. A safe America. That's what his rival won't and can't promise. With today's events in Germany and the others around the world including the United States recently, the campaigns that promise law and order or even more importantly safety will do well. Our current President and Hillary seem clueless about this. You say no? You heard the President's speech along side his Mexican counterpart today? Sometimes events change what would have been the outcome of certain elections. And that it seems is happening now. |
Presidential? Trump just tried to scare everyone. I thought you were not afraid? A president is supposed to be a leader and fearless leader. Trump spoke as an empty vessel the way Obama did in 2008. Trump said that everything will be perfect when he is elected. His daughter said we can all dream again when he is elected. Sorry dear but I don't need Trump to dream. I don't have this fear that a mind cult uses to control its members. An acceptance speech is supposed to be positive and unite people to your side. Instead Trump pandered, promised the moon with no substance and just wanted to scare everyone.
Fear and selling phony nationalism sells to weak minds. Is it not logical to ask why you are afraid? What specifically is Trump going to do to make you safe? Specifics please. Its just not true that Trump just being president would prevent radicals from killing people in Germany? If you really believe that, you probably believed Obama when he said he could stop the oceans from rising. |

1. Yes. 2. Sounds like you read the Democratic talking points of today. 3. Concern is not necessarily fear. 4. That's exactly what he was doing last night. 5. If you want to live in the land of make believe as many Democrats (Liberals) do. 6. The same as most all political speeches. Remember Hope? 7. Another Democratic talking point. We should be exceptional. Expect no less. 8. A stronger military. Safety for it's citizens and law enforcement officers. 9. It certainly could have. Which administration did this recent terrorist group thrive under? We can't even call those groups by name. Now that's fear, or possibly something worse. 10. Where did I say I believe? I believe it was a great speech. Did you hear the crowds response? He had them in the palm of his hand. That was a very emotional event last night. Most American's are sick of this current situation we're in. Almost to the point of boiling over. I will say this. We are at a very dangerous point. We are more divided than ever. This leads to extremism. And that's where we are now. |

No specifics as I hoped would not be the case Get OFF the talking points Name specific Trump proposals that will make you feel safe in the USA. You liked the speech which is cool but policy matters so please name policy that Trump will do to make all the dreams come true. I'm a radical true conservative If you love killing terrorists then you should love Obama. He has expanded the drone policy and killed more terrorists than all former presidents combined times 100. Trump lives in the land of make believe and it seems you are a believer in make believe ;) |
I didn't watch everything but I was impressed most by Ivanka and that soap actress.
Yes, i think Don's biggest chance is selling vague promises to very fear wracked people, and with what happened in Munich today he's one tiny step closer. It would be neither total disaster nor would everyone suddenly win big forever fabulously hugely or whatever. If you want another Jimmy Carter outsider who won't be able to do anything go for this non-politician pretending to be a blue collar everyman. A bought out hack like Hillary is still preferable in that she won't sue the media, impose prayer on people or pretend the climate isn't damaged. I can't say whether there was a huge breakthrough for LGBTQ acceptance by conservatives but I do think Trump is at least personally tolerant and tries to take the high road (he hated Rosie O'Donnell for other reasons I guess), but I think he is definitely racist based on tweeting exaggerated stats about black violence from a white supremacist website and calling a U.S. born Judge a Mexican who can't do his job. Whatever kind of Christian Donald is I can't imagine given all the small sub contractors etc. he has left in the lurch whenever bankruptcy allowed him to basically do unto others, and what about releasing his financial info to really back up these extravagant claims of financial success? That's his big selling point but he still won't show us the money. On a lighter note, someone put a cute little wall with barbed wire around Trump's star on the Hollywood walk of fame! |

One of my favorite movies is The Wizard Of Oz. If you think about it both Trump and Clinton make an appearance. |

I think Glen Beck is a lunatic most of the time. But sometimes he makes sense. He sums up Trump's speech perfectly for me IMHO. http://www.glennbeck.com/2016/07/22/...form=hootsuite |

We certainly agree on one thing. Glen Beck is a lunatic! I'm curious to see what's going to happen in Philadelphia this week. And I don't mean the speeches. More so what's happening outside the convention. Hopefully it won't get too crazy. |
Watch how the media tries to make the DNC email
story a non-issue. Poor Bernie Sanders. How about a third-party ticket? Cruz/Sanders??? I think I'll just try to listen to the highlights of this week's convention. Watch to much and I think I might get sick. |
I'm going to be really sad if a new album comes out and a song bashes on Donald trump
|
Just two points and then I will shut up. :)
1. I just feel like it's important for people to know the process by which refugees (Syrian or otherwise) get to the US. Unless they have close family members (l.e. mother or father) in a country, they do not get to choose the country where they go. The UN decides that. They have to wait 18 months to 2 years minimum before they are allowed to come to the US. During that time they are vetted. So promising to check immigrants before they come here is just saying that they will keep the same process that already happens. And it seems unlikely that a potential terrorist would pretend to be a refugee just so he could wait in a camp for 2 years with a small chance that he would end up in the US and that his background wouldn't come up in the vetting process. 2. Do those of you who are voting Trump agree with the GOP's anti LGBT stance (try to overturn the SCOTUS's decision to allow same sex marriage), anti choice for abortion, anti Muslim ("We won't let any Muslims into the country" (totally impossible to do, by the way), its refusal to accept climate change, and his horrible comments on women's appearance and mocking of people with disabilities? Or do you not like those things, but think that other things take precedence? Just wondering. Obviously I"m not a fan. :) Kevin |

I was sooooooo worried to check what was going to follow my post. So thanks for the nice thanks. :)

Why should a woman and a man (if the man has any say) have the right to commit murder or have it hired out? I would like to ask this of anyone who responds. Force yourself to watch an abortion performed. Make sure to see one that lets you witness the baby's reaction to the tools and chemicals used during the process. |

Well, no one has to do anything I say. But I was
hoping that any responses given would be after witnessing the horrifying act of abortion. The death penalty question is difficult to answer. And most times when one takes a pro-life position that's the question that gets thrown in your face. I don't think they are comparable. One is an innocent, the other a convicted criminal. That said, the older I get the more I'm not sure what the answer is to the death penalty. It would be easy from afar to say this or that person deserves it. But if one was the actual judge in a case, to put it this way, I'd hate to make that type of decision. My answer is - I don't know. |
I consider being pro life as also being against the death penalty. That is also most likely one of the differences between being a Catholic and a Protestant evangelical.

For the umpteenth time Trump seems very un-presidential re: 'Russia invited to hack Hillary's emails'. Paul Ryan, a CIA director and his own VP spoke against his comments today.
Volatile Donald would be a good name, although he seems to see it as being wily and unpredictable. By the way, Canada is almost entirely aghast at idea of a Trump presidency (NATO and trade ideas he has are being heavily criticized to say the least). All these reports of people fleeing north might be part of it (no idea where people who can't stand Hillary or Obama could go). I think we're still the largest trading partner for whatever that's worth. Or are we, like the media, in on the great conspiracy against him and the millions of people he seems to think agree with him on everything? Someone better break it to him gently that the numbers can lie 'folks'. |

With no medical evidence for when the soul enters the body of the baby, if they are separated at all in time. As a Christian, I couldn't be a doctor who performs abortions, not knowing this - at anytime after conception. 2. Again, as a Christian I believe a human life begins at the moment of conception. _________________________________________________________ I've mentioned this before. If anyone here has had an abortion there is forgiveness through Christ Jesus. He has already paid for all of our sins. If you come before God in Jesus name and ask for forgiveness, He is willing to forgive. |

Now, lest ye need a civics lesson, what you and I say or vote does not matter UNLESS you're in one of those electoral college states or swing states that really matter. The ones in play as of now are OH, PA, FL, CO, VA and perhaps AZ. It really doesn't matter what happens west of the Mississippi as far as the popular vote or electoral college vote goes since those states (except for CO and AZ) are not in play. IF OH goes to Trump as well as FL, its over for the Dems. It also cuts the other way. The first to 270 EC votes wins the whole enchilada, regardless of the popular vote. |
Latest presidential utterances...
Trump to NBC reporter Katy Tur when questioning his encouraging a foreign country to hack Hillary Clinton's emails: "Be quiet. I know you want to save her." When asked about his relationship with Vladimir Putin: "I never met Putin. I don't know who Putin is. He said one nice thing about me. He said I'm a genius." Also he said something about ripping up the Geneva convention. Strong? So basically, shut up, I'm a genius, forget everything involving rights and agreements of the past. Ok,. I am officially scared now. Especially as he is ahead by several points in the last poll! WTF? |

Oh, okay... so Trump news today is him saying how he wanted to physically hit speakers at the Dem convention, especially some "little guy". Feel better? :)
Is that also a sorry, freedom of speech does not extend to 'foreigners' (worked for U.S. based companies many times, lived in three states, family in two)? :woohoo: As a public service here are some of Hillary's "lies" from last night fact checked (courtesy NYTimes)... Clinton: “Our economy is so much stronger than when they took office. Nearly 15 million new private-sector jobs.” FACT CHECK: This is true. Since early 2010, when the economy stopped losing jobs every month, 14.8 million jobs have been added in the longest streak of private-sector job growth in history. Clinton: “More than 90 percent of the gains have gone to the top 1 percent.” FACT CHECK: This depends on the time frame you consider. From 2009 to 2012, the top 1 percent of families captured 91 percent of total real family income growth, according to Emmanuel Saez, an economist at the University of California, Berkeley. Clinton: “In Atlantic City, 60 miles from here, you will find contractors and small businesses who lost everything because Donald Trump refused to pay his bills.” FACT CHECK: This is true. Several news organizations have documented many specific instances where contractors say Mr. Trump or his organization refused to pay them for work they had done, in Atlantic City and elsewhere. |

He did sound Presidential and it was good speech. I enjoyed Hillary's too. I thought it was best I have ever heard from both of them. However, I think their children were excellent and even better. They raised some good kids. That is what I kept thinking throughout both telecasts. |

This was used in the convention speech, but also again today. Trump: “The number of police officers killed in the line of duty has risen by almost 50 percent compared to this point last year.” FACT CHECK (NYTimes): In fact, the Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks officer deaths, reports that 68 police officers have been killed so far this year, almost exactly the same as the 69 who were killed in the same period last year. Now the reason you don't want a president knowingly manipulating people to outrage and reaction based on false information should be very much of current concern considering the nation that was invaded based on another President's false information leading to outrage and fear. That was Iraq and (unless the plan was to occupy it forever) the power vacuum and the U.S. military armaments there has led to an entity that is effecting many other nations right now. At the time many people in the U.S. believed Iraq had something to do with the WTC attack and claims that they were developing nuclear (or nuculur if you prefer) weapons were fabricated or at best grossly exaggerated. Then again, some may well think it the very height of seeming presidential to pass off half-truths, exaggerations and lies (while being told to boycott CNN and not listen to the speeches of the 'enemy'). |

You must have heard Obama's speech today about the $400,000,000 payoff for hostages today. They think we are all idiots. That's the part I hate. |

How can I make this clear: Your opinion on our politics does not matter. Nor does your vote since you can't vote here. Wanna talk about Lindsey and Stevie, FINE, have at it, BUT what you or your countrymen think about our election is as irrelevant as mine is on yours. |

1. Where did you get that from? 2. The Presidential part related only to his acceptance speech. 3. I'd be very careful if I were you in using the name of Christ in that way. 4. Voter like me? Wrong Again. I'm not voting for anyone. 5. Trust me I don't. 6. Like I suggested elsewhere, take a look at the Drudge Report. You trust the others? You reap what you sow. I believe this is why we have these two particular candidates to choose from. We lose either way. I just believe one's worse than the other. |
I think a major problem with some parts of the U.S. the last few decades is people are simply not getting all the real information, they are getting completely made up stuff sometimes meant to manufacture outrage.
Here's a great example, $400,000,000 paid to Iran being suddenly revealed over six months after it was announced by the White House. You can't pay someone with their own money; that was Iranian money that was being held all this time from when the Shah was deposed. It is however very well documented that the Reagan administration was selling arms illegally (Reagan 'forgot' and Bush Sr. 'wasn't there' and Oliver North sealed his lips) to Iran post-revolution to fund mercenary rebels to fight a democratically elected socialist government in Nicaragua. At the same time the U.S. was openly supporting and arming Saddam Hussein administration in Iraq who were at war with Iran and Osama Bin-Laden in Afghanistan fighting Russia. Also if your xenophobia extends to Canadians now you really must have nobody left in the rest of the planet, or is Trump's admiration of Putin enough for you to trust Russia? I'm also reminded of the born in Kenya conspiracies requiring of such silly minutia about typefaces on old documents in a fairly newly created state and people knowing their Kenyan born black skinned son would need a phony announcement in a newspaper to one day run for president. People with real information and education are very concerned for the future of the U.S. and the world because of Trump; former heads of the CIA and FBI. Many long time Republicans even, but Canadians with access to non-slanted reporting are drinking funny water? Just get some real information from long standing sources... please stop believing those with histories of manipulating with half truths and deliberate misinformation or else rule your selves out as eligible voters. Climate change is happening even if what you see are one person with scientific credentials employed by big oil getting the same amount of attention as the one of thousands of non-affiliated scientists saying this is accelerating. If you like a crisis try that one on for size even if it means admitting Al Gore was right about something. Statements I have read and heard like not agreeing with Hillary on anything, 0%, are the kind of silly absolutist comments that make people despair within the U.S. and outside it. If you find yourself saying things like that you have gone off the edge. |

Another thought: I guess it was also our Canadian media that our Liberal Prime-Minister relied on for information that kept us out of the pre-emptive invasion of Iraq circa 2003 (and which Condoleeza Rice said she'd never forgive us for). Too bad Tony Blair didn't check in with us maybe? |
