The Dodgers Are Honoring Vin Scully With A Fleetwood Mac Concert
 

I never did believe in the ways of magic, but I'm beginning to wonder why: for Vin Scully and Fleetwood Mac, two of the most miraculous entities in existence, will be joined together under the skies at Dodger Stadium next month for a 'Blue Diamond Gala' in honor of the legendary announcer.
We sure will miss Vin after he retires at the end of this year, and Angelenos have been showing their appreciation in many ways, kicking off his last season with the renaming of Elysian Park Ave in honor of Scully himself. A tribute performance to Vinny by one of the greatest bands of all-time is literally ripped from the headlines of my dreams.
The 'Blue Diamond Gala' will be held at Dodger Stadium on July 28, and ticket packages start at $1,500 for all the paupers out there.


If you really want to go all out, a 'Grand Slam Sponsorship,' can be purchased for $100,000 and includes 20 "preferred seating" tickets for the concert, 20 tickets to the "Pre-Show Party," tickets for a "Meet and Greet" with the Mac themselves (crying), and, perhaps most bizzare, a "choice of 2 players to be table hosts during the Pre-Show Party." It's #PuigYourFriend, not #PuigYourHost!
According to the event website, proceeds (of which, there will probably be a lot!) will go towards expanding the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundations' local inner-city baseball programs.

1,500.will probably be top price for the tour , Dolly is getting 1,900 someone told me beyonce 1,300 and a few other are up there the mac will not be undersold

I think this is great news. At the very least it's gurantee the 5 of them will need,to be together and won't be off in 5 different directions. Maybe it's being overly optimistic but,maybe They are cordinating doing more recording around this concert.

Ooooh. Makes me want to do something unreasonable, for a seat that I know won't even be a good one.

well, there were just 900 guests for their first gala in april, so there might not be bad seats, if there is something similar in july. all seats were around the tables by the stage in the centerfield.

They've all been in and around LA at some point since the end of the tour.

If seating is anything like the Huggie Bears fund raiser they performed for in 2009 in the Hamptons, it will be very intimate seating and crowd size will be limited.admission price was about the same then,and there were celebrities galore in the crowd and seated in 'general admission'. Only the big Pooh-Bahs like mayor Bloomberg took the big $$ seats . If I were in the CA area I would definitely go

Ok. I was just afraid that if I only bought one ticket for the cheap price of $1500 (!), I would be shoved in a corner somewhere, while the people who bought the more expensive packages would get the good seats.

Can no-one write original copy any more? Someone's singularised them and ignored the bit about the Brits, but that's it. "I know", someone at the Dodgers must have thought "no-one will ever have heard of this combo we've booked to do the music while everyone tucks into their chicken-in-a-basket. Let's see what Wikipedia says about them. That'll look really classy on the blurb..."

It was changed because most American readers won't know what the Brit Awards are. As for the grammar, there are differences between American and British English with regard to matching subjects and verbs. But as someone who studied languages in school, I can appreciate your outrage! :nod:

The grammar issue didn't really annoy me- I'm getting rusty on some of the finer points! Language changes over time, not always for the better. It was more that Wikipedia entry was quoted at all, rather than something original being written. It looks a mite clunky...

Even if I lived nearby and even if I had the money, I would not attend this event. I'm not spending another dime on Fleetwood Mac concerts until they make new music. i supported the last tour, went to two shows. But there's nothing about events like this that entice me anymore. It's all bs without new music.

I would rather not see them perform any new music live. It takes up set list space that could go to an old classic that I love dearly and know all the words to.

I bet they won't do a full set list either. Although they'll end with Songbird for sure.

I agree.They will do one of those abbreviated sets like they do for the benefits which sucks after the guests pay all that money to go.

I'm an American but I prefer the British grammar: "the band are" as opposed to "the band is." It's a collective noun, thus the use of the plural form of the verb. "The band is" just sounds funny to me. I'm sure the British usage sounded equally funny to the Dodgers employee who re-wrote the copy. I'm certain that person had no clue that "the band are" is actually correct (in England).

Ugh. An oldies act. I'm far more interested in seeing how these musicians have grown. I want a new set with new songs. Don't worry: the band panders to the mass public's desire for oldies.

I'm surprise that Vin enjoys 1970's 80's pop rock bands like the Mac .I thought he would be interesting in his era like Frank Sinatra,Rosemary Clooney ,Benny Goodman,Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. BTW. He's the last of the great sportsman.They dont make them like that anymore.

I love the Dodgers, Vin Scully and of course FM, but I can't justify the $$. I'm out for this one.

Well, it IS a benefit concert, so I would like to believe that most of the money is, in fact, going to the intended purpose of expanding the building and programming, and that the Mac is getting a reasonable fee for their participation.

As for all of them being local to LA, I thought Christine lived in England.

yeah same. i think stated purpose was well beyond the Dodgers so if bulk of the money does go to it, that would be great. i would hope FM is not charging for m&g parts, just for having to do the setup, equipment, crew, etc.

while only Lindsey and Stevie are LA based and the other 3 come and go, i have to assume that LA is a home base for FM and that bulk of their equipment / gear is there and they don't have to ship it in.

They all lived in Los Angeles in the 70s and 80s. LA was their home base during their hey day.

That might be worth it!!
