overdoses.......
you know, with all the conversation around Prince, and the possible use of "save drugs" when he possibly overdosed made me think about Stevie. Whether the Prince stories turn out to be true or not, I have to wonder if any such interventions had to be done on Stevie. I'm suspecting yes. Paul Fishkin talks about them having to "scrape her off the floor" more than once, and of what he called "near-overdoses" on the road. Not all overdoses are fatal, and I got the sense that because they didn't kill her he didn't consider them real "overdoses' but honestly, I can totally imagine her having been found unconscious and having to get emergency medical intervention. Someone in an earlier thread said that they think she's got nothing more to hide of the "bad stuff" that happened, but I think she really would hate for people to think about or dwell on the real gritty and grim aspects of her addictions.
Just with all this Prince talk about such things makes me think of how damn lucky she is. |

i know that these days she doesn't jump around nearly as much as Prince did for decades, but people say she used to in her younger, coked up days. |

there's been mention of foot problems, which wouldn't surprise me a bit. I'd hate to think she's taking anything prescription let alone opioids for pain with her history...... She'd clearly like to not wear the boots (all summer long) but too many selfish fans bitched about the frankenboots so she switched back. |

there are other artists who switched to flat boots these days and they are doing just fine, still screaming with style - Cyndi Lauper who is also very very short comes to mind. frankenboots are not the only option! |

If it turns out that Prince died of a drug overdose and Stevie did not is quite shocking and ironic. Stevie told the story that years after he did Stand Back she was sick in bed and refused to give her cough medicine because Prince said he did not want her to get addicted to another substance (or something like that).
Stevie's Thousand Days is written about Prince and some of the lyrics are shocking.... about him dragging her up the stairs, etc. Now looking back to have thought Stevie survived but Prince did not is pretty ironic. |

as we all know, opioids are highly addictive, and even worse for people who have addictive nature to begin with. those stories as well as all recent Paisley Park ones sound very much like Prince did not want to be enabler for anyone. Richard Dashut cites his own addictive nature as one of the big reasons why he doesn't want to have back surgery he so desperately needs - because he thinks he can't risk getting addicted to opioids he would need after the surgery. |

in fairness I think the comment was saying that it's ironic not that Prince succumbed but that Stevie didn't given that her life was certainly (at one point) a total recipe for disaster |
I saw Cyndi a few months ago with the platform shoe's on should have clarified that and I'm seeing her next week with Boy George

it is one thing to use recreational drugs , and laugh off the warnings and side effects to chase a high , it is another to have a Dr (who too many people put their trust into) prescribe them to you and become addicted to them (not by choice ) and not be able to be weaned off them or offered help , every one I know who has or had ( lost to ) an opiate addiction was never offered any assistants from the Dr who prescribed them , comparing the two is like comparing apples to elephants |

we have in Massachusetts a law in place recently how Drs can write prescriptions and dentist are no longer allow to give a 60 day refillable prescription to teens or to anyone Meet Dr. Michael Kostenko. He's written more than 40,000 prescriptions for oxycodone in the last two years. He says at any given time, he has between 800 to 1,000 active patients in his practice. Nearly 100 percent of them get prescriptions for oxycodone http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/suspen...tion-practice/ |
"addict"?
I was reading some posts/responses attached to a facebook meme someone commented on about Prince. So many of the comments were enraged that the word "addict" is being used to describe him. People actually saying "He wasn't an addict, he needed those pills for pain" and making accusations about other people trying to tarnish his reputation because of race issues. It always amazes me when people are incapable of finding fault with celebrities that they idolize. I'm pretty sure the same would be true if Stevie ever OD'd.

It makes no difference at all whether your drugs feeding your addiction are from the street or a doctor. Its a rationalization to call it recreational use. What you fail to realize is there are bad doctors who don't care about the addiction. Your rationalization is what makes addicts feel they are not addicts and don't have a problem because a doctor is prescribing the medication. Here in Florida was the pill mill capital of the world. Doctors were prescribing tons of pain medication just to make a buck. This is NOT apples and elephants! To do any harmful drugs recreationally is the same as doing harmful drugs prescribed from a doctor over and over. |

The way Prince dressed, he usually had his heels to match his pants so it was not obvious where the pants stopped and the heels began. He could easily have started wearing flats a long time ago. He just didn't want to be short. Michele |

and it is F^CKING horrible here in MA their is heroin epidemic check the HBO documentary on it , it is stemmed from oxy abuse from drs . and it is cheaper and easier to get . I do not and never have take addiction lightly , but this a message board you and I are complete strangers and something can not be conveyed though a computer . I have a friend who is going though hell to get off oxy she had to seek out other drs to assist her , so she would not turn to heroin or other street drugs . her out of touch primary care dr did not understand why she wants to get off it . my apples to elephant was recreational drugs/ use = pot and causal coke user.... to people suffering with hard core addiction / drug problems . nobody does oxy recreationally it is used habitually because of a prior addiction usually began by being over prescribed it ,there is a huge difference as far as Bad drs i had my share , there are plenty of them , a good one is hard to find and keep because they all fall to the drug companies . I am firing / telling my current to go F himself on my next visit over an exchange we had because I refuse to take heavy duty pain meds he keeps prescribing to someone who has had an addiction problem |

she should tell EVERYTHING she's already put a heap of stuff out there i think there's prob a lot of bad #hiT we dont know and out with it. won't taint my view of her. and we all know both her addictions pretty much killed her soooooooooo Quote:
and it is probably one of the reasons they couldn't be friends or lovers or whatever. and Stevie is STILL alive walking this planet. Not Prince, not Michael Jackson, not xyz number of "celebs" who have "addictions" to legal drugs for whatever reason. or mix their drugs, self medicate etc whether or not the drugs were illegal or not is not even the issue. you can get addicted to any drug. let's just face facts. Stevie is an immortal vampire. **knocks on wood** |
