TMZ is usually right with deaths...He was only 57...
He joins his protégé who also just died at 57...What are the chances both would die at 57... |
Noooooooo. Holy sh!t.
That's so sad. A real genius- I've only recently 'discovered him'. As I'm sure will be mentioned many times over in the coming weeks- his performance with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, Steve Winwood and Dani Harrison at the Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison: a genius musician at work; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y |
I'm so upset. He was a legend.
|
Tragic, tragic news. The man was a music legend. I just can't believe he's gone. Rest in peace, Prince Rogers Nelson. 1958-2016. You were taken from us way too soon. :distress:
|
This is so shocking to me. Man, this guy was so talented, and a complete legend. Huge loss to music.
Rest in peace, Prince. Gone too soon. |
WTF.Oh my god.Lost of words at this moment.
|
I might just take a nap until January, because it's becoming clear that this year just isn't working out.
|
Omg!
That's what I said when they broke into Young & The Restless this p.m. with the news. Last I heard he had the flu, went to the hospital & was released. He even did a show afterward. This is just terrible. I always wanted to see him in concert; he always put on quite a show so I heard. So sad. :distress:

Oh man, I just listened to Purple Rain and now I'm crying like a baby. We have lost too many greats this year. Heck, I'm still not over Glenn Freys' passing. :(

Here's the Billboard write up...
Prince died earlier today (April 21) at age 57 at his Paisley Park home and studio, his publicist confirmed to the Associated Press. TMZ first reported the news. Prince was hospitalized last week after his plane for was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Ill. Released a few hours later, a rep told TMZ that he had been battling a bad case of the flu. One of the most iconic musicians in music history, Prince's extensive career grew out of the music scene of his native Minneapolis, where he lived his entire life. His 1978 debut album For You and self-titled second LP, released in October 1979, kicked off an incredibly prolific run of albums that included 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Sign O The Times and Batman, among others, throughout the 1980s at a clip of nearly one per year, evolving with each release. It was 1984's Purple Rain -- his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 -- released in conjunction with the film of the same name, that cemented him as one of the greatest artists of his generation, earning him two Grammys, and Oscar and a victory over Michael Jackson's Thriller for Favorite Pop/Rock Album at the 1985 American Music Awards. Along the way, he worked with several bands under a series of pseudonyms, including The Time, the New Power Generation and The Revolution, as both front man and producer. Prince was also known for his eponymous Love Symbol, created in protest against his longtime record label Warner Bros., under which he released an album in 1992. His 18th and final album for the label, 1996's Chaos and Disorder, finally released him from his contract. As a recording artist, Prince was legendary for his prolific and perfectionist nature which allowed him to release a steady slew of material as he experimented in the studio; as a result, unreleased b-sides and bootlegs have become highly sought-after collectibles for die-hard fans, and his infamous "vault" of recordings has become the stuff of legend. Yet he was also truly transcendent as a performer, regularly stretching his shows beyond the three-hour mark and showcasing his stunning guitar work, which became an underrated part of his legacy, often overshadowed by his iconic singing voice and abilities as a songwriter and bandleader. Over his 35-plus-year career, he released 39 solo studio albums and never stopped releasing new material Since September 2014, he put out four new full-length records with his latest band, 3rd Eye Girl, continuously experimenting with psychedelic rock and intergalactic funk. Prince's legacy as a musician, a singer, a style icon and an endlessly creative mind is nearly unparalleled, and his influence stretches from pop to R&B to funk to hip-hop and everywhere in between. Purple Rain was the first of four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200; an additional 12 LPs peaked in the top 10 in four different decades. billboard |

I was never a huge Prince fan but realize and understand his musical genius. Stevie loved Little Red Corvette so much that she wrote one of her biggest songs and asked him to play on it. In addition, Stevie added the line "I know what it sounds like when doves cry" live during Edge of 17. She was playing on her doves and his doves.
During Red Beard's interview in 2013, Christine McVie admitted being a huge Prince fan and Rasberry Beret was one of her favorite songs ever. Chris told the story that she woke up in a hotel room sometime in 1985 and MTV was on and Prince's video was on and she instantly loved the song and felt like dancing. |

I'm starting to believe God wants to form a Rock 'n' Roll band

Like the rest of you, I am in complete shock at the news (and Chyna too) of his passing. Now it forces me to learn a LOT about the guy like he was a Jehovah's Witness, didn't vote and was a registered Republican in MN and was against gay marriage? Who knew?? Anyone else have any random Prince "Who Knew" facts???

Regardless, sad that he passed. He was truly talented................ |
Stunned. We've been getting this news all the time for months but I never would have thought Prince. Only 57 and seemed in relatively good shape. When Michael Jackson died at 49 it was a shock but he had been living a self destructive lifestyle for years and had a lot of personal issues. I thought Prince was vegan and living a relatively quiet life. He was very private. Though he had not had major chart success lately I presume he was still very wealthy and could afford the best care for health issues.
*(I am now seeing conflicting estimates of his wealth. Who knows?) He had the 'bad boy' image in the 1980s that inspired Michael Jackson into roughening up his image and sound. It was ironic how those roles reversed in time because Prince hardly even seemed to age. But yet another reminder of mortality even this day and age whoever you are. I've recently had a major personal loss and this time has been a real shakeup for me in general. |

Prince's Super Bowl half time show is trending so here's the linkhttp://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-super-...-halftime-show
The first minute is just talking so you may want to skip that. |
I guess there will be a health report. I saw he had bad hips from performing for years in heels because he was so little (he apparently refused surgery requiring blood transfusions because of his religious beliefs) , and he did have some tragedy in his life - a son who died not long after birth. In recent years he probably could have been a lot more visible in his career if he had done more self marketing but he didn't seem interested. Like Michael Jackson, despite his onstage flamboyance he seemed shy in person.
I think he became friends with Stevie but disapproved of her drug habits at that time. And she had some sharp words with him when he suggested she raunch herself up a bit. Seemingly an odd pair but I guess both natural eccentrics and small in stature. Like Stevie he seemed to be a bit vain but I guess being out there in front of people it's understandable. I like the song they did together and it seemed to help lead Stevie into a new direction for herself post FM. Rest in peace Mr Prince Rodgers Nelson. Such a sad year for all fans of music. |

Who knew he believed in chemtrails and what caused him to become a believer. Perhaps he suffered from frequent unexplained sickness and was searching for answers. He was vegan. A perfectionist. Perhaps he just flogged it too hard and should have cancelled the remaining tour and stayed in bed longer. RIP Prince. Here is the interview: http://youtu.be/MBzx_3eOyZA |

Very sad news.
A remarkable talent most especially on 1999, Purple Rain and Around The World In A Day. For some reason after that he seemed to get lost. Then the fight with his record company didn't help. He was probably on the right side of the fight, but it seem to cost him his incredible vision. I saw him on Tavis Smiley and lost some of my admiration for his intellect. Some of the interviews were eye-opening. Never knew him to be one that believed in certain conspiracies and such. He didn't look healthy is these past few years. My memories of him will be from Purple Rain and how he was the best performer that ever rocked the Super Bowl Halftime Show. |
There are many stories going around right now. I don't know what to think and I don't like to say something that is not yet confirmed and might just be speculation. Many are questioning how this could happen when he was just 57 - was there something we did not know about?
He was a very private person who kept an air of mystery about himself much of the time. But there will be a full investigation into what happened by the local sheriff's department, and I expect it will be reported in due time. |

I think it was the Jehovah witness that side tracked him and the death of his son |
Some of Stevie's stories about Prince over the years:
Prince played synth on your 1983 single Stand Back, which you had written by singing new words and a new melody to his Little Red Corvette. What do you remember about the session with him at Sunset Sound? I remember him playing basketball outside like one of the Harlem Globetrotters. He was spinning the ball on his finger and throwing it backwards into the net. In terms of the actual recording he was super-quick, Unfortunatatley we couldn’t keep him locked-down there forever (laughs). But he later sent you the backing track for Purple Rain, asking you if you wanted to write something to it.. lt was a cassette – and I’ve still got it – with the whole instrumental track and a little bit of Prince singing “Can’t get over that feeling.” or something. But it was 10 minutes long with the big guitar solo and I was overwhelmed. I told him, “Prince, I’ve listened to this a hundred times but I wouldn’t know where to start. It’s a movie, So you turned down what became Prince’s defining song? Right, Bit I always feel like there’s a little bit of me in it. The olive branch of him giving me that cassetee was huge, but I think he would have liked a romance with me, too. Wow. Were you flattered? Very flattered. I remember Fleetwood Mac were in Minneapolis on tour one time and Prince came and got me right after the show. I’ m still in my chiffon stage outfit and he’s in his purple stage outfit. We get in his purple Camaro and bomb out onto the freeway at 100mph. I’m terrified, but kind of excited, too: “****, we’re gonna get pulled over!” So we get to his purple house and he has a studio downstairs and we try to write a song together. But I’ve just done a show and I’m tired, so I go upstairs and sleep on the floor of his purple kitchen. In the morning he wakes me up and I have some coffee and I sing a little part on the song. But I’ve got to be at the airport by 2pm to take-off with Fleetwood Mac, and you do not miss that plane. We get into the purple Camaro again. Prince bombs it down the freeway and right out on to the tarmac alongside our private jet. He comes around to open my door and we hug goodbye, but we both look like crazy people. I get on the plane and the rest of the band are like (drums fingers, rolls eyes). I’m like, “What? Nothing happened. ------ Details: Really? What about you and Prince? Stevie Nicks: Let me state this here and now: We did not have a sexual relationship--I did not let that happen. Details: How did you meet? Stevie Nicks: When we were recording "Stand Back" I decided to be really blatant and call Prince up and tell him that I had been inspired to write the song while listening to "Little Red Corvette." I told him that I figured my song was half his. He came over to the studio where I was recording and listened to it--as I turned extremely white and started to shake. Then he walked over to the piano and put on a really incredible keyboard track. And not only did Prince make it up right on the spot, he played it with only two fingers. Then he left. Details: Did you see him again? Stevie Nicks: Yes, when I was on the road a year or so later. I was sick, and Prince brought some cough syrup up to my hotel room. He was sweet--he walked around the room folding things, fluffing pillows, tidying up in general. Then he gave me a spoon of it himself. But when I asked for another spoonful he changed--he said, "I didn't come all the way up here just to get you hooked on another substance!" Then he left. Details: Do you still see him? Stevie Nicks: No. I was at the premiere of Purple Rain, and in the scene where he slaps Apollonia I freaked and had to go sit in the bathroom. Afterward I went back to see him, and when he asked why I'd left, I had to tell him, "When you popped Apollonia, it kinda popped my brain." He looked at me like it just killed him. We've never spoken since. (sighs) It’s a shame, really...we were alike in so many ways. Details: Such as? Stevie Nicks: Well, for one thing, we both liked wearing black chiffon around the house. |

They also questioned Merle Haggard death too with it. I live under a jet super highway over here since the international airport is about 25 miles north from me and I get the JFK and Newark traffic going to Europe flying over me according to Flightaware and Planefinder websites. Maybe its adding to my allergy problems here. I hope they will let us know what happen to him and about his treatment. |
