Glenn Frey passes away
 

So my phone has been pinging all day with news app updates about the passing of Eagles co founder Glenn Frey at age 67. :angel:

Bowie was 69.

The members of FM are at ages on either side of both of these guys.

I'm sure they are saddened by the loss of another one of their contemporaries, but I wonder if it makes them think more about their own mortality as it relates to getting projects (either band or solo) done sooner rather than later.

I know that may seem a bit selfish, as I and many others would really really love to get one more album out of this band, but I wonder if it makes them more motivated as well. :shrug:

Omg, I'm really devastated. I only saw the Eagles documentary the other day and I was so blown away by what amazing musicians they all were. Also, Glenn did a UK interview not so long back with Joe and I thought they looked amazing.

A fantastic band that won't be the same. I'm so sad. I REALLY hope these great people we're losing will make the five members of FM realise that life is short and they are extremely lucky to not only be alive but have the enormous following they have so make music and do what you do best before it's too late!

RIP Glenn Frey. :(

^Touching. I can't even believe it. I wonder if he died despite surgery or if surgical complications caused it. I always think of the Eagles hand in hand with FM. Michele

I almost feel bad for even saying this, but I hope the recent passing of Bowie, Frey, Cole and Haggarty really lights a fire under the asses of Fleetwood Mac, and especially Stevie Nicks.

In 10, 20 years from now, no one is going to care about the touring they're doing. Well, no one except those who went to see the shows. But the albums? The albums are their enduring legacy, forever.

And there aren't enough of them.

It's crazy that all these deaths are happening all at once (more or less). We're all getting older...

also Mott the Hoople / Bowie drummer Dale Griffin at 67, today.

This article says he had been in the hospital since October 27 and that he was scheduled for surgery but developed pneumonia and was never able to have it.

I was just laughing because they were recounting that point in the documentary where Glenn threatened to beat Don Felder up during a live performance. He told him that after the show was over he was going to get him and Don must not have thought he was kidding, because as soon as the gig was over he ran and got in his car and drove away as fast as he could.

Man, when your immune system is down, you die of pneumonia or infection more often than you do of the original ailment. It's very scary as these people get older and more vulnerable.

When I was with Lindsey, we lived together and were famous. It was the opposite extreme. Seems a tad melodramatic, no? These people were fighting illness, not age. A 45 year old could get liver cancer (like Bowie) or pneumonia (like Glenn) similar to how a 90 year old can be the picture of health.

Well, you can get it at any age, but there's no escaping the fact that it happens more frequently with age. Whether it's pneumonia or liver cancer or a fall, it's going to start happening to more and more of their contemporaries on a regular basis now.

Dennis Wilson drowning was a shock. Overdoses, car accidents, flukes took their friends away then. But now they have reached the age where losing a peer isn't a shock, it's just nature and instead of happening once every 2 years, it will be happening once a month. I mean at this point we'll be lucky to get out of January without someone else dropping dead who is connected to who they were.

Cancer and other illnesses can kill at any age.I lost my sister at 56 with breast cancer in 2007.I lost my friend at 29 with a heart attach in his sleep in 1992.I just found out last week my ex -bosses son died in his sleep with sleep apnea and he was 45.

Its really sad that we are seeing a great generation of artists and band members are passing away at a young age.

i think she's used up a LOT of her 9 lives
and that she's still here for a reason.

Bowie worked right up til the end because he knew what was coming

but i think FM in particular, especially after what happened to John should get their asses moving on something

but concerts can be forgotten

(and if you leave a pile to your kids or god kids they'll all just be lazy arses and blow it doing nothing. Sting recently said he's giving it all away, his kids won't be getting any big wads of cash when he goes. I'm sure they're doing fine now but not when he goes)

News just came in that Dallas Taylor died yesterday. If I remember correctly, he was one of the inspirations for the song, Beautiful Child.

He died a year ago.

We lost so many .It's so sad and nobody today can fill their shoes or maybe the last 20 years.

They dont make artists and bands like they use too.

Without sounding crass, a "youngin'" posted on FB earlier, that Stevie used to "bang" Frey. I wrote, "I'm almost certain that you're wrong, it was Henley and Walsh". Yet he insisted that she was doing Frey, too. Am I wrong? I've always tried to keep track of her...well, somewhat. There's no sexual history between SN and Frey, RIGHT????

That Bowie exit was amazing. I mean, they were already going to do a tribute for him here in Echo Park just because of the new album release on his birthday. They didn't know he was sick when it was organized. He planned it that way and, obviously, it was important for him to leave fresh new art behind in his wake. People were talking about his new music just days before they had to mourn his legacy.

So sad. David Bowie and Glenn fry are two of my favorite musicians. Eagles are my other favorite band. The reality of it is, this is only going to keep happening. This makes me that much more grateful I got to see Christine.

Really sad that Glenn is gone, what a great talent.

Not to sound rude, but was never a fan of Bowie, however I respect him as an artist. RIP.

It certainly feels like the end of an era. I hope that there are a few young and original artists who can keep creating something interesting in the future. But I don't know if they'll ever achieve the same 'legendary' status previous performers did.

I can see Stevie moving into a 'mentoring' role. Well, she already does that. Even though she didn't have her own children, she seems like she has a maternal side and has become an inspiration for young performers.

I feel very lucky to have been born in 1962. The best music of last century occurred in my youth. At age 18 in 1980 I was lucky enough to see a triple bill of The Eagles, Heart & The Little River Band performing in the Yale Bowl all in their prime.

I saw Christine at a bar in Cleveland. One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Then I saw Lindsey at a bar in Cleveland and he sweated all over me when he shook his head. lol

Most definitely. We've been very lucky. Live music (and great albums) were accessible and affordable and all around us.

We have a wonderful local program on NPR that plays great new music by both new and older artists as well as a variety of other cool things. They did a beautiful tribute to David Bowie, and last night, they announced Glenn Frey's passing and played a few of his songs. The dj then said, as sad as it is, that those of us who were lucky enough to grow up in that glorious heyday will probably get our share of heartbreaking news in the coming months. I realize it's possible that everyone will live into their late 90s, and I hope they do, but we all really did have a lot of GREAT singers and musicians in our lives, and it's very much like a huge extended family, so it's really painful when we get this news.

So sad to hear that Glenn Frey passed away. Always loved him and The Eagles. I regret not ever seeing them live when they were in LA at The Forum in 2014.

Decades maybe now it's time for them to give......
Time , a precious commodity......to themselves
Friends, family.......
They have Just given a world wide tour......
Do You not think maybe they deserve a vacation
To read to relax to enjoy their. Time with things& people
That come second to the recording, the touring.
It takes more than you know out of them.
They are all young at heart.....
All have other dreams/projects on the back burner......
While they are able ... They should now be as selfish as they want with their Time......
It belongs to them.....
They have enjoyed loved succedded at what they set out to do...yet now ....maybe just maybe ......
They have other gifts other dreams to pursue......
I hate Hearing all this pushing to get them to record.....if they really really want that , it will happen.
Otherwise be grateful for all these decades & that they are all with us & still preforming.
