RIP Glenn Frey
from the EAGLES.COM
http://eagles.com/news/266763 It Is With The Heaviest of Hearts That We Announce… Jan 18, 2016 ...the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016. Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...arist-dies-67/ |
This is too much - make it stop!!
|
You're kidding me - yet another? So far I hate this year :( what is happening?
|
Your hero's are dying.
The old ones. The great ones. The ones you looked up to aren't looking so good anymore. And the ones growing up are crazier than we were. But a war can always be won. Well, if there is the sense in trying. Not much is really a secret anymore. We all grow up and the veils come down. But the children go on. |
And still, Stevie Nicks thinks they've got all the time in the world to finish a last album.
|
Good God what is it with this month?
|
The Eagles were always my second favorite group. It was never considered cool to like them(or FM for that matter), but I loved both.
My heart sank when I read the news. Because it's coming for all of them, sooner or later. I'm sure this is the end of The Eagles. And when it happens to one of FM, it will be the end of them, too(or should be). :distress::distress::distress: |
Like OMG, what in the world is going on here? This is so sad. The musicians from the 70s, my generation, are passing. They are not that old. And I'll bet it is cancer again. I like the Eagles. I have their music; I grew up with their music. :sorry: Yeah, this year is not starting off very good.

This is just shocking news. Henley was just on Stern praising Frey. Besides founding the Eagles, Glenn was instrumental in getting Henley to sing instead of just playing drums. He encouraged Henley to do Desperado when Don didn't want to do it. Just an amazing song writer, guitarist, and overall person.
Since this is a Mac board, this is also devastating for the Mac. The Eagles and Mac were very close in the 70's. Glenn opened for the Mac solo on the Mirage tour. Its impossible for the Eagles to go on without Glenn. RIP to probably the biggest musician/songwriter of the entire 70's decade. |
All the more reason for the Mac to finish this album. They're all getting older and the days are passing faster and faster. They need to enjoy each others company creatively while they can before the opportunity has passed them by and they are left with nothing but regrets.
As for Mr. Frey, it's such a sad and devastating loss for the music industry. This year has really sucked so far with the amount of major deaths we've all experienced. The Eagles were a mainstay in my CD player growing up alongside the Mac, Pink Floyd and The Beatles. Heaven has a New Kid in Town. Thoughts go out to his family and bandmates tonight. |
Shocked

I've lost so many of my faves from the 70s era. Seem very few left now except for the obvious perennials. Many of the deaths have been from accidents or illness, not lifestyle factors. |
Heres the Linda Ronstadt tribute with Glenn and the girls complete.
I post this awhile back on here. Stevieandthegirlslindatrubutefixed by wppcproductions |
I was really sad when I saw this last night. Eagles were my second fav band after the Mac. He truly was a gifted songwriter, and was unstoppable when he collaborated with Henley. While I respect all the musicians that have died this month, Glenn's death is the only one that has affected me.
I agree with some posters about the Mac slowing down. As much as I would love to see them live again, have a new album or see them solo, I would much prefer they slowed down and spent more time with their families. I would much rather see the Mac being alive and well, than on the road and sick. |

None of the other deaths have really bothered me. Glenn's death has been a kick in the gut! In regard to the end of The Eagles, the inevitable end of FM, and even the end of "us". |
I had a more visceral reaction to the passing of Bowie but as primarily a Fleetwood Mac fan this one hits home. As Mick has pointed out Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles were the 'Coke" and 'Pepsi" of their time. The two titans of 1970s SoCal rock so therefore the Rumours band's closest musical peers not to mention Stevie 's significant romances with Henley and Walsh. If this is not the end of the Eagles it should be.

We have lost many musicians and business people recently in the past month:
Glenn Frey's passing is one that hits the Fleetwood Mac family hard if you take into consideration members of the band, the Eagles, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have worked with each other on various projects for decades. First, prayers and condolences to Frey's family: Cindy, his wife; Taylor, his daugher; Deacon and Otis, his sons. Second, prayers and condolences to Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Scmidt, the remaining members of the Eagles. It will not be easy to move forward without Glenn. "What is the future of the Eagles?" is a question that will be answered later on. There is a hole that remains in the world tonight. It is a hole that will never be filled. |
I was very sad to hear of Glenn Frey's passing yesterday evening when I'd gotten home from work. Usually I'd have seen it online but I did actually look yesterday evening. Anyway, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are my 2 favorite bands I've collected them since the 80's. Both bands will always be interconnected for me. I don't see how the Eagles can go on without Glenn. I do send condolences to Frey's family as well as the rest of the Eagles and there families. There music will always be apart of my life just like FMac as well as the other artists I love music from the 70's but other eras too. I agree they need to spend time with there families and friends more so than with music now (Fmac) like someone else posted. They've given up most of there lives for this. Maybe now is the time for themselves really. Time goes by too fast for us all. Hopefully each of us will appreciate each day we have. Enjoy your life the best you can. All we have is now. :xoxo::D

do we have any other videos of mac members performing with Glenn?

The Rolling Stones have set a sort of benchmark for veteran performers, but I don't know how they do it. Mick and Keith are in my opinion exceptions. (Mick appears to be in better condition than many who are half his age, but has a long trail of broken relationships including last partner who committed suicide and he seemed totally unaware that she was in so much pain.) They might be 'survivors' but for them, there are dozens of casualties. (Sorry if that sounds insensitive about Jagger. I like RS as a band but don't get Jagger at all. I once tried to read a biography about him and probably one of the dullest I've ever read. Probably not the author's fault. It's just that Mick is so much about himself, even by rock star standards.) |

Glenn was a trooper .I wonder how he played music with having Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Where did he have it. |
Documentary
I saw that CNN documentary on the Eagles over the weekend. I had to record & watch Part II last night as I couldn't stay up until midnight on Sunday. I found it very interesting. It was put together well. I really never knew their history, never knew how close Glenn & Don really were. It really was sad watching it, watching Glenn talk & knowing that he isn't around anymore. I'm wondering how the band members (& his family, too) are doing, especially Joe. I mean, apparently he had an incentive to get off the booze & drugs, so he could re-join the band, but now, will they go on without Glen? :distress: And I can't even imagine what Don is going through. :distress:

It looks like The Eagles are officially disbanding, according to Don Henley.

Well, when I saw the Joe Walsh was going to tour with Bad Company, I kind of figured that the Eagles were no more. I imagine the other members of the Eagles will find a creative outlet, too. Don can go out solo if he wants. I don't know about the others though.

Next to the mighty Mac, The Eagles are my 2nd favotie band.
I loved them back in the '70s (and still do). I had all of their albums. From the first time I ever heard it, New Kid In Town is by far my favorite Eagles tune. I am deeply saddened that we've lost Glenn Frey. Music has lost a great musician. Rest in peace, Glenn. :( |
