US Festival 1982
 

Footage from the Mac performing at the US Festival is not that common. Not sure why everyone else is posted on youtube except the Mac. Anyway this little segment about the entire concert has some footage I have never seen before. Gosh it makes me want more. Christine is so elegant dressed all in white. And the end where Stevie introduces one of the founders on the US Festival.....Stevie looks amazing.

The full video of Fleetwood Mac's set from this show is out there somewhere. As well as the full Mirage tour video. Someone has them, they just need to put them all on YouTube. From pictures I've seen, I think that white dress Christine is wearing is the same as the red one from the Mirage tour videos. She had three of the same dress for that tour one in white, one in black, and one in red.

I agree about the Mirage video but the Us Festival is an all different matter.

As you know the Us Festival was produced by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniac in 1982 and 1983 and he/Apple has the tapes. Circa three years ago Steve Wozniac himself had announced that for the 30th anniversary of the festivals two documentaries with remastered content of never seen before life footage and new commemorative interviews were being prepared but its' been postponed several times due to bureaucratic ****.

The video you posted is the trailer for the documentary. There is also a bit of a new interview with Mick.

Now, since Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie that are the two major headliner of the two different editions of the festival are the only ones that miss from the internet, I dare suggest that Apple had the most juicy footage set aside in order to sell it later in more convenient conditions and now everything is damn blocked for money issues.

The song breaks down during the bass solo part. It sounds like they were trying to get their groove or something. Maybe John or Lindsey had too much to drink before the show :eek: It also sounds like Stevie's microphone is way turned down.

Actually the soundboard of the almost whole show is circulating, with Sisters of the moon and Songbird taken from an audience recording.

Yeah the audio is on my blog I think. I want to see the video!

I'm sure they all had their share of drinks and blow before and during the show. John definitely seems drunk or something during the bass solo. When he starts kind of botching it, I was like where's Lindsey? He needs to come in for the save. Mick picked up on it. Also, I was having trouble hearing Christine's keyboard during the latter two instrumentals.

33 Years Ago: Influential, Short-Lived, Very Expensive US Festival Gets Underway

The US Festival had a staggering impact on the world of rock ‘n’ roll. Even though it existed for only two short years, it would help to lay the groundwork for the modern festivals which we enjoy now.

The US Festival began with an idea from Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, who wanted to put on an event that would spotlight both music and technology. He mounted his first US Festival beginning on Sept. 3, 1982, with performances from classic rockers such as the Police, the Ramones, Talking Heads and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as well as artists from many other genres. An estimated 425,000 took in the sights and sounds that year.

The 1983 edition of the US Festival would take things to a bigger and better level. In the minds of many, the centerpiece of the event was Heavy Metal Day, which featured performances from Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and a memorable set from Van Halen, who were ultimately paid $1.5 million.

How they got to that figure ultimately involved David Bowie.

“The festival was completely booked,” promoter Barry Fey once told the Orange County Register, “and Van Halen had a favored-nation clause in their contract that said no one could get more than them – and they were getting $1 million. Then Steve came to me and said, ‘God, Barry, I really love David Bowie.’ I say, ‘Steve, there’s no room. Let’s put this to bed.’ And he says, ‘Well, I really do love David … could you try? It is my money and my festival.’”


Fey placed a call to Bowie, who was on a European tour promoting his massive Let’s Dance album. “David tells me, ‘We’ll have to interrupt our tour and charter a 747 to bring our equipment and get it right back again.’ So I went to Steve, ‘David’s gonna cost you a million and a half, but it’s gonna cost you an extra half a million for Van Halen.’ He just shrugged his shoulders: ‘So?’ The addition of Bowie ultimately cost $2 million.”

This series of events left the Clash, who were picking up a measly $500,000 in non-punk rock dollars in an extremely ticked off state. They held press conferences and spewed venom [with Van Halen being a particular target] to express their displeasure, threatening that they would not perform. They did perform but, as Fey recalled, festival organizers got their own revenge. “We put a copy of the check up on the video screen – during their set – showing that they got half a million dollars,” he said.

Wozniak lost a lot of money on both festivals – reportedly $10 million alone on the 1983 edition, which, Fey quipped, was “the most expensive backstage pass in history.” Still, the US Festival’s memory and legacy lived on vicariously through the likes of Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Coachella, among others.

I wish they rerun the whole dam thing on TV.The cable channel idiots dont want to cut in to their asinine reality crap programming for something good.

I don't know if it would be actually possible, I know some bands like The Kinks didn't want to be filmed.

I did not know that.I can understand being pissed getting videoed from bootleggers but pro shot video is legit.

I don't know why, but for now The Kinks are the only band mentioned to not have been filmed. Maybe they didn't want to share the profit for the official release of the performance so they chose to not be filmed at all.
However on their facebook page the Us Fest said that they were working on Fleetwood Mac's entire footage.

What are they working on it for? To put on YouTube or something? Can you guys imagine how awesome it would be to finally see a video of Hold Me live? Not to mention all the other songs that were cut from the Mirage tour video.

As I've already said:
I'd say that this is a DVD release like they did in the recent years for Quiet Riot.

I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hopeful for this. I would love to see Fleetwood Mac's uncut show from the Mirage tour. I've watched the cut version on YouTube so many times.

I agree with both of you.We are already blue in the face for years holding our breaths on waiting for things with this band.

Atlease one thing came to life is Christine coming back.

More likely the collection will be highlights clips like other fests and shows are put out for release.

I see that finally the old Johnny Carson shows are finally coming out of the vault and will be rerunning on Antenna TV in January 2016.

Oh yeah, also the Midnight Special last year has released DVDs.

Same here - I'd rather see the same show. I'd LOVE to see the live "Hold Me" finally hit video in any form.

A video of Hold Me live would be amazing. I really want the uncut Mirage tour video and the video of the entire set from the US festival.

Unfortunately this kind of release has very little to do with the band itself. They probably just agreed to be filmed and then washed their hands.
Just think about the 25th anniversary Rumours reissue, the press release had promised a remastered DVD of the Budokan footage but then gave us that crap of Rosebud. Don't misunderstand me, I love Rosebud but we didn't need another version.

So even if this documentary is released, what are the chances that entire sets will be on there? What if they just do one or two songs from each band and the rest is just documentary crap?

However these past three years other full performances from the Us festival has been officially released in DVD, for example the Quiet Riot.

Dennis Ottey Stephen, I believe that it could not be released due to legal issues, like lack of releases from artists and ownership rights. It's a shame because "The Making of US" is an incredible historical record of events that broke multiple Guinness World records. Largest use of outdoor portable toilets being one, if memory serves me. 1st Temporary interstate freeway ramp, (not sure that's a record) but certainly a monumental achievement.
I could go on for hours, but am afraid I my memories may differ a bit from the facts.
