Christine Suggests Bandmates To Write For Each Other
 

So I tried to see if anyone posted this, but thought it was interesting she would suggest this so publicly.

I wonder how hard Lindsey and Christine are pushing for this idea behind the scenes. Do you think they could get Stevie down for it at this point?

That is interesting. It reminds me of the Hold Me conversation in the limo. Clearly, Christine could hear Lindsey on those verses she'd written.

I mean, Christine could sing Say You Will. I think it was written as an imitation of her writing.

And I've always said that Miranda sounded like something Stevie could sing.

And of course, we've had that time Stevie talked about Lindsey on WISYA.

I saw this post. I think it's a wonderful idea. The more a band is a band.. the better they are. The power of this 5 group of people is incredible.

Yes .Christine reminds me of my late sister.She was the family referee,Holiday get together organizer and family moderator.She got my divorced mother and father along with my stepfather under the same roof for the holidays.

I love this idea. As someone said in the comments on FB, "Angel" from "Tusk" which was sung by Stevie sounds like it could have been written by Christine.

There's just a bad audio tape. It's one of the "limo" conversation tapes. She's not saying anything other than that she asked Lindsey to sing on Hold Me and Stevie objected.

I'm not talking about this quote from Christine that was just on Facebook.

All I said is that what she said NOW reminds me of the old (more than 30 years old now) limo tape thing about Hold Me.

All i meant is that I think she has written with Lindsey's voice in mind before, probably because she liked the result on Don't Stop.

And also reminds me that the Macsters sound like each other on Say You Will (the song) and Miranda. And of course we have Lindsey on Crystal, as well.

You’ve done a lot of co-writing for your solo album, but there hasn’t been a lot of co-writing among the members of Fleetwood Mac.

CM: It might be an interesting thing to do for the next Fleetwood Mac record…to write a song for Lindsey to sing or vice versa…or for Stevie to write a song for me and see what would happen. And actually, the first Chris/Lindsey 'duo' was World Turning (oddly enough another collaboration that Stevie wasn't happy about). I love that there's been at least one such song on every album: World Turning (white album); Don't Stop (Rumours); Think About Me (Tusk); Hold Me (Mirage); Little Lies (Tango) -- and wasn't this yet another Stevie objection, where Stevie griped and Chris said "we wanted your voice too but you weren't here" and Stevie apologized and they added her voice? (or am I mixing this up from something on Mirage???) Chris and Lindsey partnering up so to speak is a FM tradition.

Stevie may have been complaining she wasn't on Everywhere. But it was definitely a Tango song.

As others have pointed out....this could be an old story from the 1984 interview that I remember once I read it.

I follow Christine McVie on twitter but I suspect like many celebrities it is controlled by a P.R. person. I say this for a few reasons and this quote is one of them. She never re-tweets anything or has any interaction. Last year there was another Christine McVie twitter that was really her and she would pose questions, retweet, and post new photos, etc. This account was taken down I suspect because right after she posted the photo with Joe Walsh from the Eagles concert in London, some people started posted nasty things about Stevie and Joe. After this she stopped posting and it went away.

Just my theory.

I saw a repost from her twitter on Facebook and I was kind of happy because she quoted the "woo me until the sun comes up" and I have to say there's something about that simple lyric that gets to me. It made me happy that Christine repeated that line, like it was one of her favorites too. Now, that it probably wasn't Christine who did that, I am sad again.

No, I am sure you are right that it's a social media person tweeting for her.

Bottom line: posts from "Christine" on Facebook or Twitter are NOT from Christine. They are from "social media lackey." (I like that.) So ... don't believe any of it.

Thank you! I was just about to cite this interview, since I remember it the first time out. She was talking about the band making Tango.

Hey, if she still wants to do it, great, anything to get a friggin album out.

Also, as commercial as the song Say You Will is, I can't imagine Christine singing it. It doesn't fit with her voice. The "joke" post about Christine singing Blue Denim actually is more plausible. She could do a lot with that song.

And this isn't the first time Christine had Lindsey sing on one of her songs. Don't Stop, Think About Me. He took over the vocal for You and I Part II, which was originally sung by Christine. Stevie had him sing Crystal and share the vocal on I Don't Wanna Know. As far as I know, these acts have never been returned.

To entice Stevie to sing on the EP, he tried to present songs that she'd want to sing on to her. He tried to make songs that he thought would appeal to her and her vocal stylings. He may not have been successful, but that was his goal.

Exactly, I don't like how they have been lying to us about this.

I can't hear Christine on "Say You Will" either and I don't think Stevie was trying to cop Christine's style I think she was just trying to write something catchy.

I think she was very much trying to pattern herself after the type of first singles the Mac traditionally released. Whether she was trying to write like Christine specifically, I think she was definitely trying to write something that people who enjoyed Little Lies would like and something that neither she nor Lindsey would strive for, left to their own devices. Stevie has rarely written such linear lyrics before. Michele

I would love to hear a three verse song where each of them get a verse and they all sing the chorus together in a well recorded, distinct 3 part harmony.

That would be great, kind of like the Beatles did on "Free As A Bird".

Exactly. If in fact this comment was from an old interview, why couldn't they revisit this idea for the next album? I still think they want to get a new album out in 2016.

if by "they" you mean majority of FM, sure. Christine and Lindsey and Mick for sure. but that was never in question. (well, in fact it was, they wanted it out in 2014. then in 2015. now it's pushed to 2016.)

maybe revisiting this old quote is a way of clamoring from Christine's team to get the rogue / unwilling member on board (hey, you don't have to even write any songs, we'll do that for ya, just sing the lead on some of them!). ;)

Absolutely. I've always thought that even by titling the song "Say You Will" was a direct reference to "Say You Love Me". It was Stevie's attempt to fill the void that was within the band with Christine gone. A lack of Christine meant that the album was devoid of her up-tempo and optimistic views on love. I think the song "Say You Will" was a way to have Christine on the album without her being there at all (both lyrically and musically).

I agree with this. But I still can't imagine Christine singing this song. It may be as commercial as a Christine song, and its presence on an album that takes its name from it may have been an attempt to fill the void Christine left, but it is, alas, not a song Christine would likely write or sing. She probably loved the song, though.
