Lovely Clinton-era pic

Hello all, I've just stumbled across this rather lovely photo of the band from the Clinton inauguration - taken by Lynn Goldsmith. Unusual to see a formal portrait from the wilderness years...

Agreed, that's a great photo! Here's the original without the insta filter(?):

They all look great. Not exactly happy... but great..

Lindsey doesn't look exactly thrilled to be holding hands with Stevie. And I love how she's seated in the middle, like the queen bee.

Macfanforever 07-22-2015 01:03 PM

Nice photo. They are probably nervous because they are or did perform for the inauguration.

I agree both statements. When I watched the event, my first thought was the wish of them reuniting again. But it wasn't the right time. If they had released another album that year, Stevie's participation would have been a Tango II. Though we didn't get new material (album), The Dance reunion came in a good moment. Sadly it (the lineup) didn't last long.

Stevie's klonopin drugged out stare scares me too much for me to say this is a great picture. Its really sad IMHO. The rest of the band looks great but how can you not see that horror show gaze right in front of you
Stevie's head first crash into the fireplace would happen later that year.

I agree, i remember thinking stevie absolutely looked awful that night. marty and i were both sitting there stunned. the others looked pretty good. years ago i asked john what his thoughts were on that night and he said he was a republican who 'objected to clinton, period!' (actually he said it all in capitals for emphasis! ) but that the majority ruled with that decision, so he went with it. (he also said the majority ruling 'accounted for some of the stupid decisions the band has made over the years' lmao) But he obviously wasn't gonna fight it too hard, because chris certainly wanted to do it and that would override his political objections. when he talked about it in that dance group interview, he seemed to have fond memories of it.

Because I have direct experiences with people on klonopin (a friend, also a relative), and I don't find that look in this picture. If I didn't know that Stevie was addict to clonazepam those years, I wouldn't think she was drugged in that shot, I think nobody would.

The attached pic looks more, IMHO, like the eyes of a person in clonazepam (klonopin, rivotril).

But I correct myself about my previous post. Yes she looks like a queen bee but I don't love that. Quite the opposite. She looks more like a person who thinks she is the queen bee.

I always thought SN looked good in this performance. I like the outfit she wore.

Totally with you. I loved her hair color and that she showed off the chest! You go Queen! Very 80s Madonna style with the cross too.

Everyone gasped when it was shown on TV. There was even a comedian at the inaugural ball that said "Who the hell took an air hose to Stevie Nicks?"

Unless your friends are drug addicts I dont think its fair to compare them to Stevie. When this photo was taken she was taking large does of klonopin for 7 years. Stevie has said that she cant even remember most of her 1989 tour and other chunks of her life. She was a complete tranquilized zombie and her world was going to come crashing down in just a few months. Stevie blames the doctor for constantly upping the dose but drug addicts will find ways to replace one drug with another. Stevie said herself that it would have killed her. Stevie's quote was her lights were turned off. I assume your friends can remember what happened in their life a few years earlier. Stevie was not in that same situation. If you cannot see a drugged out stare then that is your opinion. You can see that same stare on stage in parts of 1990 and 1991. Her worst appearance was MTV Asia in late 1991 promoting Timespace. She can barely speak, her eyes are so glassy and was so lethargic. That is just a deadpan death stare IMHO. It just cant be ignored. She was on such high doeses that she said her skin and hair fell out in rehab.

Have you seen this interview that was over 1 year prior? Its so sad and the weird part is she talks about drug addiction and when she starts a drug she cant stop so she advises people not to start. I love how she compares drug addiction to eating Sara Lee poundcake.
Her eyes are dead. Its really sad.

One of them, a relative, is dead. Clonazepam is one of the worse drug in the world and doctors continue to prescribe it.

I’m sorry to hear that. Where I work, our doctors may prescribe Klonopin, but it’s really only meant to be used temporarily. For a doctor to prescribe it for an extended period of time is irresponsible and dangerous.

I remember that quote and I was thinking the same thing at the time. I noticed the weight gain in the Rock a Little and Tango videos but some of the interviews she looked better but from 1989 up to the Dance……horrible and very very sad. I still stuck with her as a fan went to the concerts and bought her music, it’s all part of her journey.

Was her journey supposed to end with her being the boss of FM?

Worst ending ever. I walked out before it was over(2018).

The photo is reminiscent of the Tango era.

Was listening to Family Man.
I know it's literally about Lindsey's birth family, but I had the idea that it could also be about Chris, John and Mick (Lindsey's metaphorical mother, father, and brother in the band), with Stevie conveniently left out of the metaphor since she was mostly absent at the time.

Neat analogy! But considering Lindsey and Stevie had been lovers, it would have been icky to make her an actual part of the family, even in a song.

Don't forget Mick and Stevie too

Macfan4life 07-06-2024 09:21 AM

The saddest part of the Klonopin era was that no one was able to confront her and make her get help. I am sure everyone had concern but was afraid of her wrath from the last time her people were so concerned for her that they forced her to go to rehab. She ended up leaving 2 days early and fired everyone involved. Stevie once said in an interview that she was unaware the cocaine was ruining her voice. OMG she was living in a cocaine bubble. Her cokey screams and shrieks were horrible yet she could not see this. She had to rely on her inner circle to tell her to stop it. Too bad no one was brave enough to come forward and say ...."Stevie you cant write good songs anymore. Your songs suck so bad that even on a flop Fleetwood Mac album your songs were not even considered for singles. You are destroying your career. It took a bad accident for her to wake up. In Mick's second book and in Billy's book they both glossed over and never mentioned the tranquilizer addiction. Rick was asked point blank in an online interview about it and he refused to answer. I suppose it was the elephant in the room in those days.

Lindsey looks very handsome. Not that he's ever really had a problem in that department.
