Getting Clean

Just to clear up some facts about the Mac members getting clean.

Mick Fleetwood - Claims to have stopped drugs in 1990, although other sources say 1995

John McVie -
*Heavy drinking on The Dance tour
*Still smokes cigarettes to this day
*Claims to have "gotten clean" in 1988 after a seizure

Lindsey Buckingham -
*Smoking in Destiny Rules Documentary (2003)

Stevie Nicks -

*Cocaine addition from 1976-1986
*Klonopin addition from 1986-1993
*Smoking addition from 1984-
First claim: 1994
Second claim: 1997
Third claim: 2000
Seen smoking in Destiny Rules documentary (2003)
Seen smoking on stage (2004)
*Admits to still smoking marijuana for "Inspiration" (2015)

Christine McVie -

*Smoking addition from 19?? - 1992
*Smoking addition from 1997 - ????

I wonder if chris still smokes. I hope not.

Me too, so what, who did what, where and when.
Who gives a s**t.
They are in their 60s/70s and have lived a bit......

Montclare 07-19-2015 12:04 PM

I support this thread. People always ask who did what until when; makes sense to be able to have a thread to refer people to. There have been threads dedicated to Stevie's partners as well, since that's always brought up too.

I would say for Lindsey/Stevie in the Destiny Rules video, that most likely is pot, not cigarette smoking. Also, I believe in Mick's new book, he talks about doing drugs until the mid 90s. I think he stopped alcohol around 1990 (for awhile), but I could be flipping those. I'm too lazy to pull the book out, seeing as it's helping to prop up my fan right now. :)

I have no idea why people want to know this, but you could tell just looking at all the comments Richard Dashut got regarding drugs that people are fascinated by the topic. I don't mean they just want to know if someone did drugs because I find it interesting to know stuff like Edgar Allan Poe took opium myself. I just don't know why people want to know how much, when did it start, when did it stop, how was it imbibed and on and on. It's strange to me.

People really have romantic, giddy feelings about drugs, even today.

I have mixed feeling of this topic. Some of the info is news to me.Its none of my business what they do in their life. They beat it and beat the bad habits again and we are lucky to see them play music that we love even its the same setlist for all of these years. I can picture them looking at my habits . can see Mick or Stevie yelling at me and saying "Put that f-----ing bag down" "How many more bags of potato chips and 2 liter bottles of soda you are going to finish while reading The Ledge or watching a good movie.

Hahaha I'll say "Whats it to you". LOL And I'll say here some chips for you and finish whats left .

Junk food is just as bad It can kill too.

welcomechris 07-19-2015 06:37 PM

Sometimes there are very disrespectful members on this board. Drugs are harmful. They will burn you down.

I worry about them now that they are very old. John has cancer. That's caused by drugs. Before you say "It's not caused by drugs" Alcohol is a drug. Cigarettes are just as bad. Stevie still smokes marijuana. That is very hypocritical because she says "Drugs are bad, Don't do drugs!", but she does drugs!

Just saying, If you don't like a thread you don't need to say "Seriously piss off with this BS!". How about saying "Why do you care, they're old let them be happy!".

I remember reading an interview with Mick once where he said he slept on Lindsey's couch all through 1994 or 1995 drunk and homeless. The couch was either in a basement or a studio. That was nice of Lindsey considering he was no longer a Macster at that point in time.

To bad at that time they could not mend things up in time for we can have the 5 some together in 1995 instead of the "Time" album.

If Mick hadn't jumped the gun with hiring Bekka and waited until Lindsey finished the "Out of the Cradle" tour, I think they may have been able to get Lindsey back in the fall of 1993. It would have been cool for them to do an album as a quartet and a tour with just the guys (since Christine was still not touring).

I've never heard this. I know he slept on Richard Dashut's couch for part of 1984 after his bankruptcy, but he was with Lynn by 1994 (and had that restaurant in Alexandrea, Virginia) and they got married in 1995.

Yes I agree. No offense with Bekka and rest of the Time lineup.

1984, 1994, it's all the same Rhiannon, in the sands of time that go by like a strand in the wind.

I've only recently come to that conclusion. While I still think they could have redefined the band's sound with Bekka and Billy (especially by parting ways with Dave and letting Christine retire) and come up with something new and compelling, that was realistically never going to happen. It doesn't work that way now with the classic line-up.

So, since Fleetwood Mac wasn't going to move away from the "Rumours" material, getting Lindsey back and going on as an augmented trio for the shows would have made more sense.

Yes, I don't think that happened. Lindsey didn't even really want him in the trailer during Tango.

Christine talked about Mick sleeping in a basement and how sad it was. It was a damp basement, wet carpet, and he watched soap operas all day. I don't know whose basement it was.

I'm more interested in their weight.

1975
Stevie?
Lindsey?
Mick?
John?
Christine?

2015
Stevie?
Lindsey?
Mick?
John?
Christine?

Now that would be interesting!

If I were to guess I'd say if you combined the
total weight gain of the entire group by the
year 2015, you'd think they'd added a sixth member
to the Mac.

The difference from 75' to '15:
Stevie....... + 55 lbs
Lindsey.... + 30 lbs
Mick........ + 45 lbs
Christine.. + 15 lbs
________________

Total....... 145 lbs

And that's without John. That's like getting a free
Sheryl Crow or more for your money.

TheWILDheart 07-20-2015 06:13 AM

Mick stated quite openly at one of the M&G's in 2013 that the reason no album happened after the Unleashed tour was because he was still drinking heavily and the band didn't want to go into the studio until he cut down.

I definitely wouldn't go with that much for Lindsey. Maybe 10, 15 lbs for him. I'd probably only go with around 30 lbs for Mick.

If you compare pictures from The Dance era to now,
I would say Lindsey has lost weight since 1997.

jbrownsjr 07-20-2015 12:34 PM

Christine doesn't look like she gained 15lbs.

Agreed. She was heaviest during Mirage and Christine McVie. She started to slim back down for Tango, BTM and then The Dance she really thinned out.

I agree that the amount of time spent on this subject is taxing... especially when it comes to Stevie.

However, the topic that truly baffles & honestly creeps me out is the focus on the band member's children. Folks in the Mac community have stalked Stevie's niece & Lindsey's children for years. John and Mick's seemingly to a lesser degree. To me, it's the most disturbing corner of fandom. Romantic relationships the band members involve themselves in are fair game. After all, they are consenting adults who fully grasp the situation they choose to be in. However, these people's children should be out of bounds. Especially when they are still minors.

Wdm6789 07-20-2015 05:00 PM

Ahh how I would have loved to be part of Fleetwood Mac's inner circle in the 70s and 80s.

When it comes to social media, people (including minors) can only be stalked to the extent that their settings allow. They can make those pages private and having a private page is not just something that a celebrity's relative should have, but I think everyone should keep their pages private -- and should ensure that their children's pages are private -- if their children are on social media at all.

Montclare & Sue,
I'll stick with the 30 or so extra pounds
on Lindsey. He's definitely lost weight
since "The Dance" period though. He'd
become quite portly. Even his face looked
swollen.

Mick used to be so skinny, too skinny. I really
believe he's gained the 45+ pounds I guessed
at. Plus he's so tall, it doesn't hit him as bad as
it does Stevie.

jbrownsjr & michele1,
I believe Christine's gained weight since 1975.
Fifteen pounds isn't that much. I've never seen
her fat (should I say heavy?). Of the 5, she's
kept her looks the best. I wonder if that bothers
Stevie?

I think what bothers Stevie the most is being so much shorter than the rest of them. She wears those boots that kill her back. Christine is taller in flats than Stevie with boots. If Christine wore boots she'd be giant up there.
