you think he'd quit smoking
no sympathy at all for him
|
Sorry, I realize that he's an adult who's responsible for his own actions but he's also an addict, just as another prominent member of the band once was. I do feel sympathy for the man and hope that he can find a way to give up smoking. Another one of my favorites, Leonard Nimoy, passed away earlier this year due to COPD after years of smoking. As both a Fleetwood Mac and Star Trek fan, I want to see John live longer and prosper.

It depends on what type of colorectal cancer he had. Cigarette smoking increases the risk of MSI-H CRC, while alcohol intake increases the risk MSI-L CRC. According to Christine, he gave up drinking after the diagnosis. So, reading between the lines, his cancer was probably related more to his heavy alcohol use.

Yes, but surely now he's on a strict health plan with a diet and meds and it isn't wise to take them while smoking anyway.
|
I'm certainly no doctor, but...
surely if you've smoked heavily all your life, by the time you reach that age it isn't going to make the blindest bit of difference to your future health whether you give up or not. The damage to your lungs in particular would be pretty much irreparable. Arguably, a smoking addict giving up something they've relied on so much after such a long time would hit the body more and likely have a huge impact on the immune system. ...but I'm no doctor! |
It seems a little disingenuous to judge how much someone smokes by a video shot at the airport after a long flight.
|
Whether or not people smoke is not at all my business .... regardless of the circumstances. Who knows whether he is actually self medicating in this way? Lots of people with colitis etc. smoke to relieve symptoms.

What in the devil, John? Could you HAVE more assistants? Next thing I know, he's going to have his own back up singers.
So, he and Lindsey didn't want to hug goodbye? Michele |
I was surprised too to see him smoking after beating cancer. But it's a hard addiction to break. I haven't smoked since my early 20's, but I still have an occasional craving.
|
It makes me sad. I love John McVie and wish him a long and healthy life. But, nobody's perfekt.

Here is a quote from a Wikipedia article regarding COPD: In those who smoke, stopping smoking is the only measure shown to slow down the worsening of COPD.[59] Even at a late stage of the disease, it can reduce the rate of worsening lung function and delay the onset of disability and death.[60] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroni...monary_disease |

What a goof. That's for everyone who smokes these days. On a side note... I would get so tired of people filming me everywhere I went. The life of a Rock $tar. |

The fact that he was seen coughing, makes the smoking seem even worse of course.
But heaven knows I sometimes have an uncontrollable cough (that overtakes me at the most embarassing times) and I haven't smoked a day in my life. Interesting to see that even though John gets recognized least often of the 5. He still has to deal with frequent interruptions -- at least at LAX. Michele |

I love Lindsey, but I really love John. Interesting to see that the person chose to follow him with the camera and not Lindsey. You go John!!

That was fun to watch because we RARELY get any live views of John but am I the only one that thinks this was filmed a couple of years ago and posted as if it is new? Look at the man's stomach. He hasn't carried that excessive weight after his cancer treatments.

What I was thinking was about his patience. With the fans or professional autograph hounds. Or simply just waiting to be picked up by the limo. Far from glamorous, this part of being a Rock $tar. |

But no, I wouldn't want people taking pictures of me in my private life or interrupting me at dinner and the lot. Michele |
I guess Lindsey carries his guitar when he travels so that he can noodle around and constantly come up with ideas... he has loads of guitars as part of the tour- it seems funny for him to carry one home with him.
Either that or he enjoys being recognized as a rock star. |

so if he wants to have one of his guitars available to him between tour legs, to either work on new music or noodle around, he has to bring one with him on the plane, it would seem. |

I guess that hand gesture thing from John and the high wave over the head from LB is as bromancy as those two get. (Insert Tim Allen grunt). |

Remember how Chris said that after the RRHOF in 1998 they didn't even say goodbye. They just all got in their rides and drove off, because they'd already said it all after the last Dance show. Michele

I'm sure by this point they're soooo ready for a little time apart, and not necessarily in a horrible or bad way, just fatigued. |

Stevie had a passing phase smoking Kools. Lindsey must have smoked cigarettes for a time -- he is seen smoking on stage in the Mirage concert video. Christine used to smoke cigarettes, but I assume she quit a long time ago. I don't think Mick has ever been a smoker (pot exemption for all them). |

I'm going to have to go with olive on this. I really don't have much sympathy for him. John had Colon Cancer. Drinking & Smoking are major cause of Colon Cancer. Yes, John was a heavy drinker (and as of 1997, still is) Smoking is a huge factor too.
