Attention gypsy queens with a thing for Old World royalty — Reem Acra just put out your dream wardrobe. The designer’s Fall 2015 offering was all bell sleeves, high necks and dripping, just dripping in ornate beadwork. The collection was a combination of romance and glamour, a few pieces giving us a modern-day Anne Boleyn vibe — if Anne Boleyn was a gypsy queen and listened to Stevie Nicks.

Pre-show, we caught up with the designer backstage to get the tea on what we were about to see.

theFashionSpot: Tell us a little about what you were thinking when you put this together.

Reem Acra: When I first started I thought about Stevie Nicks, and I went into my archives and started to dig up all those embroideries I collected for so many years and little things here and there, feathers and so on. I thought to myself, “That’s so me, that’s my personality,” the gypsy modern girl that I wanted to portray. Stevie Nicks, I looked at her pictures, those self-portraits are really unbelievable, and I took the colors from there. The inspiration was basically her and then I went into my own world and this came out.

tFS: What is your favorite Stevie Nicks song?

RA: Well, you’re going to hear it right now. You will hear a demo, actually, rather than a song that’s out. It’s incredible that we were able to get this demo. You will hear something special.

tFS: Should we expect a Stevie Nicks sighting tonight?

RA: Unfortunately, she’s in Atlanta! But we sent her a message.

tFS: What is your favorite piece from this collection?

RA: It’s hard to say that I have a specific favorite piece, I think it’s all about the vibe of the collection. Every piece is really magical. There is nothing here that isn’t the collection. It’s a whole thing altogether.

tFS: It’s freezing outside. What advice do you have for women trying to dress for extreme cold? There’s a lot of girls out here with bare legs…

RA: Just be warm! It’s not about being undressed or looking cool. I have three, four layers on underneath here!

tFS: This is Fashion Week’s last time at Lincoln Center. What are you going to miss or not miss about the venue?

RA: It’s not about the place, I think it’s about the collection. It doesn’t matter to me where I’m showing, as long as it’s New York City, anywhere. It doesn’t matter.

tFS: What are you doing when this is all over?

RA: Going back to work tomorrow morning!

The Vibe: There was more than a subtle nod to Stevie Nicks in this collection. With Nicks' music pouring onto the runway, models took inspiration from her poised yet carefree stage presence as they walked the runway. It was evident that Nicks' style played a big role in the inspiration behind this collection.

The characteristic Stevie fashion sense that has a lasting influential impact is rooted in the past, when she was much younger. She embodied a hip, hippie chic look that was in style in that era, and she with varied clothes and colors.

The latter day Stevie routinely wears just black "uniform" dresses that either look a little bit matronly, slightly sadomasochistic, or just a little off. There is nothing current or influential about her attire. The Fashion Police would arrest her. I bet her casual, off-stage/at home attire is far more cooler and fashionable.

I have little interest fashion, but I do go with the subtle flow of style changes through time. I retired my moccasins and flared jeans from the 1970s, my Members Only jacket from the 1980s and my grunge duds from the 1990s.

That's for sure, but even in her heydays Stevie wasn't a fashion icon in the strict sense, she was more a street fashion icon.
Fashion magazines then couldn't care less about what she was wearing.

Well put. Her days of being influential in fashion are way behind her which is sad. There's absolutely no reason Stevie couldn't continue her innovative, inspiring and unique fashion choices but she has chosen not to. And I don't buy the age excuse, if that is indeed her reason. Her former looks are timeless and not age specific. Of course she shouldn't be running around the stage in just a leotard anymore but she stopped doing that anyway a long time ago (mid 80's to be exact). I'm sure there's some point in her mind that she's attempting to make/prove by wearing the same boring outfit on stage e night after night but I think she needs to try just a little harder. A few extra shawls and lace go a long way.

I wish she would surprise us all at the next event or red carpet by wearing something exquisite, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have to add though that her fashion choices (or lack thereof) don't really bother me, she can wear anything and I'll always find her beautiful and charming.

I'm in the minority, because I loathe this demo.

I was surprised to read it was used, but since it has to do with fashion and Chanel is so big in the industry, I guess I can see why they chose it.

YEESSSSS!! An amazing outfit! She had a little burst of wardrobe excitement right after IYD was released (wearing red, hair feathers) but then it seemed to go as quickly as it came.

He definitely drew from the Bella Donna and Wild Heart era of clothing. The clothes are beautiful.
Now why did he use that version of Chanel Chanel when there's a much better, more finished version? :distress:

She (Reem Acra is a lady) said in the interview posted by Michelej1 that it's her favourite song and that the demo is "special", so I guess she thought that it was more distinctive using a demo instead of a song.
Often I prefer some demos over more finished songs too, because they have a more intimate feel.
Or maybe she thought that it's a very rare demo and it would have been cool to play it during the show.

'70s Hair Made A Huge Comeback At New York Fashion Week Fall 2015

The runways at New York Fashion Week were chock full of 1970s-inspired looks . To complement the sequin gowns, chunky tweed jackets and graphic accessories, hairstylists recreated seventies 'dos with modern finishes (i.e. softer side parts and double-twisted top knots) and products that provided enough hold without weighing hair down.

The good news for us is that the hair looks in particular are fairly easy to replicate on your own. Here's how to copy them.

Get the look: Starting with freshly-shampooed hair, make a clean middle part and rough dry hair with finger tips using a blow-dryer with a sock diffuser to make sure the hair is not too fluffy. Next, come through the hair with a wide-tooth comb to smooth out any tangles. Starting from mid-shaft to ends, and then from roots to ends, spray hair with René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing conditioning spray - no rinse and comb product through the hair. Keeping the hair at the crown flat, take random sections from the back and gently twist them to bring out the texture. Use the palms of your hands to flatten hair at the crown and push it behind the ears. Add a dab of René Furterer VEGETAL SCULPTING GEL for extra hold.

At Reem Acra, Didier Malige for René Furterer created “bohemian gypsy” lightly tousled locks a la Stevie Nicks. After spraying the hair with René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Conditioning Spray – No Rinse, he rough-dried the models’ hair with a sock diffuser while keeping the crown of the head flat and smooth. Once the hair was dry, he worked in a little René Furterer Acanthe Curl Enhancing Leave-in Fluid. “Just a little,” said Malige, “because we want to enhance the texture, but it’s important the hair doesn’t wave too much.”

Fall-Winter 2015/16 - the Zodiac Collection
For Fall-Winter 2015/16, Peter Dundas explores a glistening starry night, celebrating the symbols of astrology and the unforseen powers they behold. The dandyism of Jimmy Page and the glam-goth style of Stevie Nicks electrify the looks and set the vibe. Graphic black and white undulates at the center of this collection, marking it with a modern urbanity, while also rendering homage to Emilio Pucci’s own black and white collection of the late 1950s.

It's so startling to see her in a color other than black. It gives off a more accessible, welcoming and warm vibe. She looks great in red. She'd look great in almost any color. I'm not against black. But she's doing herself a disservice to herself when she defaults to black 95% of the time. The softer tones compliment her personality.

I wonder who has more accountability for what she wears: Stevie or her stylist? And why the gloves?

Some elder ladies wear gloves to hide the wrinkles on their hands or to make fingers appear slimmer...
By the way Stevie looks very good in red, I think her red Rhiannon dress during the 1978 and Tusk tour was one of the most flattering.

Stevie doesn't like to be told what to do. So, I'm 99.9% sure SHE decides what she wears. She has a designer but not a stylist. She's the stylist. She's the boss. Unfortunately. Yeah, I'm so over the black. She's not fat so I don't know why she insists she only looks good and/or thin in black. It also makes for a very boring stage presentation. Not only is she in black the entire show but all her outfits (there are three complete changes on this tour) look the same. There's no variety whatsoever, no sparkle except for the Gold Dust Woman cape (1 song).

Hiding her aging hands may be a small part of why she wears gloves but I think it's more of a fashion statement. She's been wearing them for years...as far back as the RAL era but back then they were more sheer/lacey and less industrial looking. :laugh:

I think sometimes the gloves (fingerless especially) and rings that Stevie wears are for pain and inflammation control, not for beauty.

Hands and necks are the tell-tale signs of a woman's age. So I thought maybe they were to hide the signs of aging in her hands…. though if they were age spots, knowing her she'd easily have them removed with fade creams or laser procedures. She clearly has amazing skin care on her face and neck and keeps her manicure perfect so you know she'd have her hands well-cared for too. You can even get fillers injected into hands to plump them up and get rid of old-lady boney hands.

I guess I was just really hoping she didn't wear them because she liked them… especially those fingerless gloves with the chains. :distress:

I have to agree - she looks gorgeous in this red colour. The best and most flattering outfit I've seen on her in more recent years.

Stevie looks gorgeous in red because even if she has light skin she has a rather warm skin undertone.
Is armocromy popular in the US?
Recently I started reading about it and I was curious to know about Stevie's color season; I've come to think she's a "Bright Spring"

Sheesh, if Riccardo Tisci’s fall collection doesn’t move the fashion needle, nothing will.

There’s been a strong element of the ’70s in the collections for fall—following on the spring trend. Most designers have been pretty literal. Chloe’s Clare Waight Keller showed a Stevie Nicks-like collection on Sunday (to Fleetwood Mac music) that was hippy and swishy and roundly lovely, but it didn’t move the needle.

Tisci masterfully touched on a theme that was rife in the ’70s—a reverence for the Renaissance—but twisted it into futurism. Facial jewelry, embroidery creating Gothic crosses on black dresses, animal tails forming fringe on a fur jacket, tuxedo tails on suits, peasant-style dresses in black velvet—it was a cornucopia of fashion and his strongest collection in recent memory.

OK, the nose adornments looked comically like mustaches. All the better to sear that collection into memory.

PARIS — Sunday during Fashion Week in the French capital is many things, but suffice it to say Chloé dominates late afternoon. So breezy and effortlessly cool on an endlessly sunny patch of this blue earth is the Chloé Girl that nothing but a daylight showing would do Clare Waight Keller’s collection justice. This clear-eyed enthusiasm for life expressed with a Stevie Nicks lilt was made manifest Sunday afternoon on the runway at Grande Palais by none other than Ieva Palionyte, Hedvig Palm, Yana Van Ginneken, and Binx. The models rounded the enormous runway before a capacity audience to Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic “Dreams,” which captured succinctly the mood of the collection’s powder tones and menswear accents. Chloe Girls running the world might well be a thing of dreams, but so long as this collection sees the light of day it will no doubt inspire everyone who touches it to dream their very own Sunday afternoon dreams.

I still remember a few years back when she went to an Oscar party and she was wearing her "uniform". I was so disappointed. All the colors and designs she could wear. She could definitely wear the clothes in the photo above. I love those brocade designs. I don't accept it's her age either. Look at Helen Mirren, Susan Saranden, Heck Christine McVie!

Stevie Nicks Interviews Paris Jackson About Musical Identity & More for 'CR Fashion Book'



Issue 13 of Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book will hit newsstands Sept. 13, featuring an interview with Paris Jackson conducted by her idol, Stevie Nicks.

The legend and young protégé speak about the perils of social media, the power of folk and the necessity of finding one’s place in the industry.

On her use of social media, Jackson admits, “Honestly, the less I use my social media, the happier I am, and I’ve been using it less and less, but when I do use it I make sure to keep it very real and honest and true to myself."

She reveals that current projects include a movie about the '90s rock and roll scene on the Sunset Strip, modeling and making new music with her band, the Soundflowers. "I am in a band now and we are working on our record. We thought we had enough material for an EP or an LP, but it turns out we have enough material for an album, so I think we are going to get that done by fall.”

Some of the inspiration behind the upcoming music has blossomed from a creative collaboration with her boyfriend, Gabriel. She tells Nicks, "Before he became my boyfriend, we had this crazy connection. I’ve never made music with another person the way I’ve made it with him, I’ve never been able to sing the way I do with him, and he feels the same way.

"Our creations just flow and they’re so organic," she says. "It doesn’t feel like it’s human. It feels so beyond the English language to describe. I’ve never given myself the space to make music but when I met Gabriel I didn’t really have a choice. I had to face the fact that I was born to be a musician and music is the only thing that makes me feel the way that it does."

In celebration of the superstitious issue number 13, Jackson channels the spirit of Stevie Nicks in a fashion spread shot by Mario Sorrenti. CR Fashion Book Issue 13 hits news stands Sept. 13.
