i really like this version of blue water but noticed it sounds so much like moonlight as well.
also how the hell does stevie keep looking so young? she just keeps looking better and better these days. |
As much as I love the song Gypsy, I think she did a better job with this performance.

Rolling Stone's most recent cover story is a long, intimate look into the life of Stevie Nicks. While the issue was coming together, the Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter sat behind a piano and played a handful of songs for our cameras. Above, watch her perform "Blue Water," a meditative track that from last year's 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault. Lady Antebellum provide harmonies on the record, but here Nicks goes completely solo During the informal session, she also sang a rare, stripped-down version of "Gypsy" (watch that video here), and in the story she discussed everything from her past drug use to her current tour with Fleetwood Mac. "We choose to stay," she says of the band. "Because we can't do anything else. None of us are ever going to stand up and say, 'I'm going to make my own choice for the first time in my life, and I'm going away, and I don't know if I'm coming back." Yikes. She isn't playing "Blue Water" like the way she wrote it. She's playing the treble chords for "Moonlight" with the bass line for "Blue Water". Interesting.
Not saying it's bad, and I could see how she'd get confused (since the treble for "Moonlight" is just the reversed treble for both "Blue Water" AND "If You Were My Love") but it still works I guess. It's just that I started (in my head) to sing "Moonlight" before I remembered this was a performance of "Blue Water". Haha! |

I will listen to this when I get home from work but I'm super happy it's a song from 24K. |

These videos are a double-edged sword-- they're cool in showcasing her voice, but they really do highlight her severe limitations as a musician. I think once she goes in to formally record her songs she forgets how to play them… her original demos are generally much better with regards to the piano….though not always. |

It's really her choice of bass notes in her demos that make each song sound different...as well as her vocal melody. |
Well, it's not news that she's neither a trained musician nor talented piano player, but this is absolutely gorgeous. We get a new stripped down version, and the more fleshed out version from 24KG.

I wonder if we get another video next Tuesday?
|
I'm just glad its new, if only so people don't complain about why she did another older song.
it does sound like Moonlight, but Stevie herself said she writes virtually the same song, music-wise. She's admitted that. The changes that ARE there are enough for me, and I think it is genuinely creative in it's own way. Jamie |
Not sure why Blue Water has not been released. Get it on pop and country stations given Lady Antebellum is on it.

Such a beautiful, heartfelt performance. It's amazing how much emotion Stevie can convey with just her voice and her simple piano playing. Further proof that her songs don't need tons of production work to be moving and effective.

The piano playing has me skinning small animals and throwing the pelts at preschool children. Ghastly.

I remember back in college I got the Fleetwood Mac songbook and was trying to teach myself to play some of their songs (my playing is on par with Stevie's, so yeah I never became a world renowned pianist). And I remember the first time I played Gypsy. I was shocked that a song that sounds to totally different all the way through has the same repeating chord progression the entire time with just the bridge to change things up a bit. It's her incredible singing and storytelling, plus Lindsey's sparkling production and those lush background vocals that make the song really shine. But brought down to it's total raw musical base it's not much. It just shows you how much magic Stevie has that she can take something so simple and make something so incredible out of it.

Watch Stevie Nicks’ Wrenching, Candid Piano Performance of “Blue Water” By Sharan Shetty For the first time in a long time, all is well in Fleetwood Mac land. The band is fully reunited for a self-proclaimed “last act,” and they’ll be going on tour and releasing a new album this year. Of course, the reunion would mean little without Stevie Nicks, and Rolling Stone recently paid obeisance to the singer’s sprawling career with a 7,000-word cover story. The magazine also got Nicks to play some songs in a stripped-down setting, just her and a piano, and her moving, meditative performance of “Blue Water” is well worth a watch. The song is off 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault, Nicks’ most recent solo album. In case there was any doubt, that voice—twangy, full-throated, clear as a bell—is good as ever. |

Love this. Love watching her, but that DARN shirt. I want to see something else. She is such a style icon, I keep waiting for something new. Maybe she is bored with fashion. I'm like her. I wear the same thing over and over, but I'm not famous. I still love her.

I'm not a big fan of her solo piano performances, but she did a good job performing Blue Water. |
