VERY funny: "Paul McCartney Heralded As Unknown Artist by Surprised Kanye West Fans"

Paul McCartney Heralded As Unknown Artist by Surprised Kanye West Fans
by Jeff Giles January 5, 2015 9:42 AM

Just because Paul McCartney is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet doesn’t mean all music fans automatically know who he is.
For proof, look no further than the response that ‘Only One,’ McCartney’s recently released collaboration with Kanye West, has gotten from a handful of Twitter users who don’t have any idea who the former Beatle is — but are expecting him to get a big leg up in his career now that he’s been given a boost by one of hip-hop’s hottest artists.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B6dcSAeCQAAyM2A.png

Some folks are predictably pretty upset about this, but it’s the way pop culture has always worked; just because McCartney helped lay the foundation for much of what the kids of today are listening to, that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to know it — the same way the millions who bought Beatles or Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin LPs weren’t obligated to research their favorite bands’ influences.
Of course, it’s always good to dig a little deeper into the music that moves you, and it probably bears mentioning that it’s never been easier or more affordable to map an artist’s musical DNA (or just, you know, Google “Paul McCartney”). Still, these tweets highlight exactly why McCartney has always been so enthusiastic about branching out into areas like film, television and video games: No matter how big you are, there’s always a new audience for you. Clearly, McCartney’s just found another one.

Hahaha or get confused with Stevie Wonder or Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I've had people say, when I mention Fleetwood Mac, "oh, I like HIM".

The people doing those Kanye tweets are pretty much all trolling. And got the reaction they wanted. Though some on Kanye's main forum are now annoyed at how far the media/online commentors have taken it because it makes them look thick.

In 800+ pages on that ONE collaborative song on that main forum, they all knew full well who McCartney was. So, while there may be a few people out there who legitimately haven't heard of him (and that's not THAT big a deal, tbh), these particular tweets are sarcastic trolling, from what I've read.

It may not be a big deal but it sure is funny as hell since it's not the first time that something like this happened:

There is tons of songs with the same song titles.

I dont know why the song writers do that.Even some of Stevie's and Mac tune titles were lifted by other song writers. As long the lyrics and the music are not the same they can get away with it without having legal issues.

Well, isn't it the same with Christine "Wish you were here" and the Pink Floyd song of the same name?

I'm more concerned with the fact that Paul is collaborating with Kanye West. What has this world come to?

Why wouldn't he? Believe me, I'm about as big a Paul McCartney fan as you'll find and I have NO problems with this. Paul's always been interested in different musical styles, artists and so on. Kanye, though I'm not a big fan of him as a person, HAS been important and innovative to music. I like Paul's collaborations with Youth as The Fireman, and all this is is further dabbling in a new genre. As long as Paul's not trying to rap and is there to provide melody, harmonies, instrumentation, etc, I think this is a good thing. It's his restlessness, his musical curiosity and his willingness to try, that I admire.

I agree. If the older artist, band wants to stay hot. They got to get involve with the current young artists.

I was hoping FM to get involve with the 30th Band Aid recording but they were on tour.

Thats probably why Stevie hangs with these kids these days.

We got Tony Bennett hanging with Lady Gaga.

You are assuming that they are deliberately stealing song titles. It's very likely they are entirely unaware of a previous song with the same title. It happens a lot of times. Yet Stevie's For What it's Worth is the same title of a well-known Buffalo Springfield song. Why she chose that title is very puzzling , since she must have known the originally titled song.

It's rather alarming there is a generation that has no idea who Paul McCartney is. It reveals how shallow their refererences and depth of knowledge of classic rock and roll music is. Even though I grew up in the 1970s, I was also informed about the musical eras of the 5os and 60s, and found lots of seminal and groups and artists with as much great music as the current era.

It's a problem caused by the internet culture and is more concerning for the "native digital" kids, I attended a seminar about it two months ago. Since the principal source of knowledge, and therefore culture, aren't books and journals anymore but it has become the web, this encouraged to chop the informations in very tiny pieces and usufruct great amount of little knowledge all at the same time but without making any logical and personal connection between them so the learning process has become shallower.

Kurt Cobain Suicide-Note Shirts Pulled After Outcry

Clothes decorated with the image of Kurt Cobain‘s suicide note have been pulled after public outcry.
Baseball shirts and tank tops, printed with the a copy of Cobain’s hand-written last words, were briefly available via the Etsy site before online protests broke out. (Here’s a link to the page where the items were previously being sold.) A particularly active thread on Reddit deemed the entire enterprise “sick and obnoxious on every level.”
As the news quickly spread, fury followed from Nirvana fans and then the rest of the general public. A petition was posted at Change.org; a string of infuriated editorials were, too.
The yanked shirts then briefly showed up on eBay, apparently through a Thailand-based seller named Nuchyk, but that sale has since also been terminated.
Cobain died in April 1994, memorably quoting a Neil Young lyric as part of his farewell. He and the rest of his bandmates in Nirvana were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. ‘Montage of Heck,’ a documentary on Cobain’s life featuring previously unheard music, is due in May.

Yes, nicole21290 have already said that and after I controlled on other sources too, but still I think this trolling acts reflect an already existent tendency of younger generations.
Music acts and songs succed themselves without really knowing the author, meaning and message of the music, I don't identify myself with this.

It's true, but I still don't understand whoever could want to wear this shirts and go in public with them.
Even if you're a big Kurt Cobain fan, or I should say especially if you are one, shouldn't you find it disrespectful towards him?

14 Reasons Every Teenager Should Know Who Paul McCartney Is

Who Else Was Supposed to Watch These Teen Faves Paying Tribute to the Beatles?

Fifty years after the Beatles made their U.S. television debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, the Record Academy assembled a post-Grammy tribute with a cast of performers designed to appeal to both boomers and millennials. For the latter: Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and Imagine Dragons.

He's Stella McCartney's Dad

Stella McCartney has styled countless Aughts celebs, created lines for H&M and Target and designed a decade of Adidas sportswear. She has appeared on Time's list of the world's 100 most influential people and her work has been honored by magazines like Vogue and Elle. She's also the inspiration for the Wings' band name: During her birth, Stella's famous dad prayed that she would be born with some.

He's Pals With Jimmy Fallon

In 2013, Paul McCartney appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon for a hilarious sketch in which the Beatle and the SNLer switched accents. The clip went viral (currently at 2.8 million views) and featured Macca saying "Honey Boo Boo." Before that, McCartney and Fallon sang the "original version" of "Yesterday" (with some new lyrics) in 2010.

'Spongebob Squarepants' Loves the Beatles

Spongebob Squarepants has been on TV for 15 years, so it's a good chance many American teens have glimpsed some of the Beatles references floating around Bikini Bottom. In 2007, Patrick said "Ringo" into a walkie-talkie, there's a 2008 episode called "Krabby Road" and another where you can spot the Yellow Submarine in the background. Naturally, in 2005, the show released a soundtrack called The Yellow Album.

5 Seconds of Summer Love the Beatles

Earlier this year, 5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin was caught wearing a pair of shirts featuring shots of the Beatles in their early club days. If fans of the Australian pop-punk boy band missed the photos, they were also exposed to McCartney at the Billboard Music Awards, where a video introduced 5SOS by invoking their Liverpool forbearers and Miley Cyrus and the Flaming Lips covered "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds."

Teenagers Haven't Lived a Day on Earth Without the Ability to Use a Search Engine

You only have to type "pau" into Google and his name shows up. Even a teenager at the ripe old age of 19 was born in the days of AltaVista.

The Beatles Are Still Incredibly Popular Among Young People, Like They Have Been for the Last 50 Years

At least if this video is any indication.

Why?

Kanye West Quizzes Paul McCartney: ‘What Was P—y Like in the ’60s?’
by Nick DeRiso January 22, 2015 8:43 PM

A recent collaboration with Paul McCartney gave Kanye West an opportunity to pose the one question any fan would ask. No, not which movement, exactly, was on who’s shoulders in ‘Hey Jude.’
Instead, as West explained during a talk he gave as part of an industry event on Wednesday, the duo talked about girls. Specifically, the 37-year-old hip-hop star says he asked: “What was p—y like in the ’60s?” There’s no mention of how (or if) McCartney responded.

Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Rihanna Team Up for 'FourFiveSeconds'
A kinder, gentler West gets mellow, ditches drums with pop superstars
By Jason Newman | January 24, 2015

Paul McCartney and Kanye West linked up with Rihanna Paul McCartney and Kanye West linked up with Rihanna for new track "FourFiveSeconds." Roc Nation

Three weeks after Paul McCartney and Kanye West released their surprise collaboration "Only One," the duo have linked up with Rihanna for the soft, acoustic track "FourFiveSeconds." The song is available at RihannaNow.com.

"I think I've had enough," sings Rihanna over the percussion-less, acoustic guitar-driven track. "I might get a little drunk / I say what's on my mind / I might do a little time / 'Cause all of my kindness is taken for weakness." West takes over on vocals, crooning, "Woke up an optimist/ Sun was shining, I'm positive/ Then I heard you was talkin' trash / Hold me back, I'm bout to spaz." West and Rihanna handle all of the song's vocals, duetting on the chorus with McCartney providing keyboards on the song.

Two days after "Only One" was released, rapper Ty Dolla $ign stoked anticipation for the track, stating that the then-unnamed song was "gonna drop soon." It's unclear if "FourFiveSeconds" will appear on an album by any of the artists, though Ty Dolla $ign told Billboard earlier this month that the song would likely appear on West's upcoming album.

West previewed "FourFiveSeconds" at the IHeartRadio Summit music industry event in Los Angeles on Thursday, where the rapper surprised the audience with a 45-minute, stream-of-consciousness speech about his "responsibility to innovate." (The same speech in which he revealed that he asked McCartney, "What was pussy like in the Sixties?") West played "FourFiveSeconds" straight off his computer, promptly slamming his laptop shut and walking offstage before announcing the song's release date.

Fans of West shouldn't be too surprised to hear McCartney on another of his tracks. When "Only One" was released, a spokesperson for the rapper said that the song would be the first "publicly available recording from what has become a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists."

McCartney and West began work on "Only One" earlier last year in Los Angeles, starting with, as the statement notes, "a simple brainstorming session between the two, with McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff." It's unclear if "FourFiveSeconds," with its similar mellow vibe, was also a result of these sessions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess this is the only way that the Mac or Stevie will get played on top 40 stations or get on the current charts.

I guess this is the only way that the Mac or Stevie will get played on top 40 stations or get on the current charts.

Yeah, I've read that today but I don't know what to think about it. I mean it's certainly positive to mix up different genres and doing new things and Paul McCartney is one that never hung back from it but I don't know if I will love it.

I've read a month ago that the guitarist of the hard rock group Extreme toured with Rhianna and said nice things about her as a performer.
Here it is:

Whatever people’s perceptions are of whatever Rihanna is, it’s definitely a different animal live — completely different,” Bettencourt tells Guitar Interactive, in the above video. “At first, even when I went to work with her, I was, like, ‘Can she really sing?’ A lot of times with the singers you hear now, there’s a lot of that Auto-Tune element and you don’t know who can really sing. But when I went to rehearsal, I could not believe how well she sang, and I could not believe how well she sings live.”
There’s also been a lot more room for guitar than Bettencourt’s initially guessed — and that’s what got him interested in the first place. He’d actually “been asked through the years to do stuff … not just necessarily pop artists but with other rock bands, and I’ve always declined.” Then, not long after finishing the latest Extreme tour, a musical director friend of Bettencourt’s approached him about a Rihanna gig — and, this time, included an enticing promise.
“I was, like, you know what? I’m in my 40s, I’ve been sticking to my guns for so long and not doing anything else,” Bettencourt admitted. “‘Cause at first I said, ‘No. Why would I wanna do it? There’s really no guitar in that stuff.’ And he said, ‘Well, that’s the thing. She wants it to be a lot heavier live.’ And I’m, like, ‘So I get to do what I do.’ And he goes, ‘Completely. Your rig … ‘ [And I said], ‘I get to ruin every one of her songs?’ And he was, like, ‘Yeah.’ So I thought that would be fun.”
And, Bettencourt says, it has been. “The hats that you have to wear, feel-wise — you go from a basic pop song like ‘Umbrella’ to to reggae song to a club track to even, like, a punk song and R&B stuff,” Bettencourt says. “So the amount of different textures and feels, and to have to play along with these incredible musicians who hear everything, it’s definitely not a punch-in-the-clock-type situation for me. Live, it keeps you busy. … It sounds crazy, but it’s really challenging. It really is.”

I enjoyed their music from their generations and still enjoying it today.

Even though I didn't grow up in the fifties, I knew that Buddy Holly was a seminal influence in rock and roll, as was Paul McCartney was in the sixties and seventies.
My influences weren't entirely focused on what was popular. I think radio stations in the 1970s were a strong source for that. They weren't programmed and operated by huge corporations. Disc Jockeys had the freedom to play what they wanted, so I was exposed was a wide diversity and styles of music, including heavy doses of music from the sixties.

I'm aware of the current, younger generation artists if only because you can't escape them in the media. Some of them are just fads of the moment. Others have genuine talent and lasting power. I can acknowledge them, yet they are too young for me to have any connection to them. I'm too far beyond their commercial demographic. You will never see the likes of One Direction, Nicki Minaj or Katie Perry in my collections. I have plenty of seasoned artists that fill the pocket of what they represent.

Some of the artists that really caught my interest in recent years (circa 2ooo onward) are the Scissor Sisters, Amy Winehouse, The Black Keys, and to a lesser extent. Foster the People and Vampire Weekend.

I'm much younger than you but from 13 onward I have always listened to older rock music.
I think my parents music choice have influenced me since they used to listen to the same tapes of their favourite artists over and over. To this day some of those albums are my favourite too, but overall they transmitted me the habit of listening to the few things that I really love and that really represents me instead of continuously searching new fleeting things that I may like.
I think it's a mixed matter of education and culture.
Recent music hasn't really interested me in a long time but this last year I downloaded Ed Sheeran's album.

Yes Radio was radio back then with real people behind the mike and spinning records. The stations were owned by ma-pa not corrupt corp ownerships that robo run their stations with voiced track DJs on dozens of stations they own.

Yes with todays things like the internet with its gadgetry of Ipad .Iphones and the media in print ,TV .Theres no way anybody can escape hearing about these younger artist.

At times my 95 years young friend ask me whose this young artist he hears or seen on TV.I think Pink and Lady Gaga was the last artists he was wondering who they were.

Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West to Perform ‘FourFiveSeconds’ at Grammys
by Dave Lifton February 3, 2015 11:51 AM

Paul McCartney, Rihanna and Kanye West will give the first-ever performance of their new song ‘FourFiveSeconds’ at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday. They have also released a video for the track, which you can watch above.
The song, which is the lead single from Rihanna’s new album, was released last week. It features Rihanna and West singing over some atypically rough acoustic strumming from McCartney, with very little additional instrumentation. Billboard reports that it debuted at No. 54 on its Hot 100 chart.
The black-and-white video for the song is as stark as the music, with the three stars performing the cut on an empty set.
‘FourFiveSeconds’ is the second song from McCartney and West’s collaboration to reach the public. On New Year’s Eve, West released ‘Only One,’ an imagined conversation between himself and his mother, who passed away in 2007.
The Grammys will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be televised on CBS beginning at 8PM ET. You can find our guide to the Grammys here.

Paul McCartney Recording With Lady Gaga
by Jeff Giles February 4, 2015 10:34 AM

http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/8045...ga-630x420.jpg

Whatever’s in that vegan diet of his must not have any kind of negative impact on Paul McCartney‘s energy level, because the 72-year-old ex-Beatle seems to be everywhere these days.
As previously reported, McCartney recently raised eyebrows (and confused a few younger listeners) when he collaborated with Kanye West for West’s new ‘Only One’ single — and repeated the feat when he joined West and Rihanna for another new track, ‘FourFiveSeconds.’ With that out of the way, he’s apparently moved on to some sort of project with Lady Gaga and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
Gaga, who previously rubbed shoulders with greatness when she recorded an entire album with Tony Bennett, broke the news on her Instagram account, posting a series of photos and telling followers, “Had a beautiful session with Sir Paul McCartney and friends. Working on one of his many secret projects! Killer musicians, vibe and lots of laughs.”
And for those of you who take offense at the notion of McCartney working with a performer who once appeared in public wearing a dress made out of raw meat, just know that it almost didn’t happen. “I’ll never forget when he called me last year to work,” wrote Gaga. “I hung up the phone cuz I thought it was a prank!”
We’ll doubtless hear the results of the Gaga/McCartney/McCready summit soon. In the meantime, check out photos from the sessions below.

Paul Stanley Says Beck Should Have Kicked Kanye West ‘Right in the Nuts’
by Matthew Wilkening February 9, 2015 5:52 PM

Kanye West is apparently lucky he interrupted alternative hero Beck instead of Kiss star Paul Stanley last night at the Grammys.
“Beck should’ve kicked Kanye right in the nuts and said, ‘Get the f— of MY stage!” Stanley declared on Facebook. West — who famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s win at the 2009 VMAs to declare that Beyonce was more deserving of an award — pulled a similar stunt during Beck’s Album of the Year acceptance speech last night. Although it seemed like a lighthearted joke or self-parody at the time, with West offering a sly smile and not actually speaking, later on he made it clear he had problems with Beck winning the award over Beyonce:

"I don’t even know what [Beck] said. I just know that, the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. … And Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé. At this point, we tired of it. What happens is, when you keep on diminishing art, and not respecting the craft, and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. We, as musicians, have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album, and they feel like it takes them to a different place. … I am here to fight for creativity. That’s why I didn’t say anything tonight, but you all knew what it meant when ‘Ye stepped on that stage."

For his part, Beck seems to be taking the whole thing in stride, saying “I was just so excited he [West] was coming up. He deserves to be onstage as much as anybody … How many great records has he put out in the last five years, right?”

Nikki Sixx, Michael McDonald Blast Kanye West’s Grammy Actions
by Nick DeRiso February 10, 2015 10:19 PM

The hits keep coming for Kanye West, and not the Billboard kind.
Nikki Sixx has taken the hip-hop star to task on the issue of respecting artistry, a key element of West’s controversial Grammy-night complaints about Beck‘s best-album win, while Doobie Brothers star Michael McDonald is questioning whether West has any talent in the first place.
“I don’t think it even really bears too much thought”, McDonald tells Dan Le Batard. “It’s pretty obvious what Kanye’s problem is. When Kanye gets to a point where he can actually put a couple of notes together either vocally or two bars of valid music playing an instrument, then he might have a right to criticize somebody else. Until then, I think he’s just talking to hear the sound of his own voice.”
Sixx, meanwhile, has reposted a opinion piece from Variety with the headline “No, Kanye, It’s You Who Needs to ‘Respect Artistry’” to Facebook — and added the comment, “I couldn’t agree more.”
McDonald also dragged out the age-old is-rap-real-music debate, one that’s been around since the genre emerged in the late ’70s, before going on to praise Beck. “The whole kinda cut-and-paste thing is a certain kind of artform all by itself”, McDonald adds. “I don’t know if I call it songwriting from a musician’s standpoint. … Beck is obviously a consummate musician. He plays instruments, many instruments. He can make his own record without having a fleet of computer operators onboard.”

Kanye West Says He Restored Missing ‘Angst’ to Paul McCartney’s Music
by Jeff Giles February 12, 2015 10:53 AM

Longtime Paul McCartney fans may have raised an eyebrow when word got out that he was collaborating with Kanye West, but as West argued in a recent Ryan Seacrest interview, he’s really part of a long tradition of songwriting partners who’ve helped add a little grit to the former Beatle‘s gift for singalong melodies.
“We just went in and we vibed out,” West told Seacrest. “As you can see, I might be a little bit more ‘angst’ than Paul. And remember the last time when Paul had somebody really ‘angst’ working with him, the type of music they made?”
West was referring, of course, to John Lennon — although he quickly took pains to make it clear that he wasn’t putting himself on the same level. “Hey, everyone, America, I’m not comparing myself to John Lennon”, he insisted, adding that he only meant he added something similar in the context of McCartney’s music. “The tension, the ‘salt and pepper’ — I mean, maybe that’s bad because it sounds like ‘black and white’ — but the tension creates a new magic. The pressure creates the diamond from the coal. And he came in with the best vibes ever. And I said, ‘Four, five seconds from wildin’,’ and he said, ‘It’s great, everyone.’ And we just had that.”

Watch ‘Paul McCartney’ Explain Kanye West to John Lennon
by Jeff Giles February 13, 2015 9:03 AM

Paul McCartney surprised older fans (and younger listeners) when he collaborated with Kanye West, and West himself later explained that he brought McCartney’s music the sort of “angst” it had when the former Beatle wrote with John Lennon. What would Lennon have thought of all this? Dana Carvey has a few ideas.
The former Saturday Night Live cast member, recently back on the set for the show’s 40th anniversary special, sat down alongside fellow SNL vet Bill Hader for a chat with the Hollywood Reporter, and — as often tends to be the case with Carvey — the conversation quickly turned to the sort of pop culture comedy riffing at which the master impressionist has always excelled.
Part of Carvey’s THR routine was offering up an imagined conversation between McCartney and Lennon, with Lennon phoning in from the afterlife with a series of confused questions regarding West’s role in the creative process. “Well, what does he do? Does he play an instrument? Does he sort of just hum along?” asks Lennon, while McCartney tries in vain to explain the concept of Auto-Tune — and Hader collapses in hysterics.
We’ll have another chance to see Carvey back in action Feb. 15, when the SNL 40th anniversary special takes over NBC’s primetime schedule: The show, which just added another half hour to its already-extended running time, will air from 8-11:30PM ET.

Kanye West’s Music ‘Sounds Like Hamster Turds,’ Sings Steel Panther
by Matthew Wilkening February 15, 2015 9:22 AM

You know, we promised ourselves we were going to stop writing posts about rock stars making fun of Kanye West for his behavior at this year’s Grammys. After all, it’s been a week now, and the controversial rapper publicly backed off a bit from his critical statements about Beck winning the Album of the Year award over his friend Beyonce.
But this is too funny to ignore. Steel Panther, our favorite purveyors of heavy metal with a dirty sense of humor, have just posted a minute-long musical response to Kanye (embedded above), accusing him of sounding like everything from “hamster turds” to “donkey farts.” They also one-up Kiss star Paul Stanley‘s “kick him right in the nuts” comment by adding steel-toed boots to the equation.

Rubbish putting it nicely and explains it in one word.

I'm not familiar with Steel Panthers tunes but I agree with them.

They have nice looking hair though.
