Mirror, Mirror
Does anyone have the version of "Mirror, Mirror" that was the b-side of "Blue Denim" available digitally? I own the cassette single but don't have a way to play it.

Wait THAT'S The Street Angel version? I always thought that was the one from before RAL...
Does anyone have an earlier version? Or has one never existed and I'm going insane? |

According to Sara Fleetwood, the version of "Mirror, Mirror" that was recorded in 1992 with Chris Lord-Alge*, was the version that was supposed to be used for the b-side, but someone pulled out the wrong master tapes. Hence the fan confusion about the b-side's date of origin. (The version of "Thousand Days" found on the 'Enchanted' boxed-set is also from those sessions with Chris Lord-Alge.) |
Thanks, welcomechris!

I bought that item when it was first released; it seems like a century ago. It's part of a substantial collection of "Cassingles" I have. They pretty much took the place of vinyl singles that usually had a rare b-side song. Cassingles often featured several rarites such as alternate single remixes. CD singles supplanted the cassingle. I have hundreds of those that fill a large cabinet that I initially bought to hold my CD albums! But I outgrew that very quickly.
I was disappointed when Mirror Mirror didn't appear on the Enchanted box set. |

Here is the 1992 version and the supposed B side version
A much more classic toned down version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMY_kXZ67uU |

I think Thousand Days is lacking in oomph too. The RAL-era demo with the saxophone is so amazingly frenetic, and the one from Street Angel sounds overweight and a bit lethargic. |
So if the b-side is originally from the RAL era, who actually produced it? Jimmy, before he bailed? Rick Nowels??
My Stevie singles are all packed away in storage so I can't pull it out and read the sleeve....:( |
Oh my God, the 1992 version is awful! Just awful!
One wonders if them using the RAL version as the B-Side was REALLY a "mistake"? |

I actually love both versions. I love the softer 1992 version. It is so classy and deep. The RAL verison is harsh vocals and the music sort of wanders but still a good rocking song. I believe that is Joe Walsh on guitar (I remember looking up the band for it) and his guitar really makes the RAL version pop. I don't care for that 80's electronic sound at the beginning though. I just think this is proof you can have 2 totally awesome versions of the same song. |
On my RAL playlist, I have replaced "The Nightmare" with the actual released b-side version of "Mirror Mirror". It works really well.
I like the mix of the 1992 version, but the vocal is pretty dire. |
According to This Website: Mirror, Mirror was co-written by Valerie Miller (wardrobe something from TWH tour) and Nicks.

I Love both versions of this song! The RAL B-Side version is great for when you wanna play music and rock out, while the Street Angel version is good (for me, and yes it is strange) for when I'm going to be doing something important, and I'm nervous. I blast it and it makes me feel powerful for some reason. Not sure why, but IMO she has some depth in these vocals and go into my heart. especially the "Walk a Thin Line!"part. However, I do like "He said see ya!" from the RAL version better.

So far, the 92 SA version of "Mirror Mirror" is still holding up for me. I don't think I love it as much as the RAL version, but it is pretty strong in it's own right. Based on the 92 version, I made the following CD for a friend. All outtakes with the exception of "Ooh My Love", which is the soundboard live rehearsal recording.
