Worthy Mac dvd's
The only Mac dvd I've got is The Dance which is great. I've got the Mirage tour on VHS but I'd like to replace this with the dvd. Not all comments on amazon are complimentary though. Does anyone have the mirage dvd? Is it a good transfer? Are there any other Mac dvd's you'd recommend? Thanks, Rich.

I have the Mirage dvd but to be honest I have watched it once or twice and I can't remember how the quality was, I believe it wasn't bad. I can't check it for you now, because I packed all my FM stuff for my moving next week.
I can recommend the Live in Boston dvd, that's probably my favourite, the show is so energetic! |
the Tusk documentary is a must.

Most Mac dvd's are good and have their own individual merit.
Whatever you do, stay away from the TANGO IN THE NIGHT LIVE DVD...(with Billy Burnett and Rick Vito). The RE-FILMED close up shots of Stevie Nicks ALONE are enough to make the whole project laughable. Unless you want to play a good drinking game. The only time this DVD gets airplay at my house is for a kitschy FM party where we are all forced to take a drink every time a re-filmed SN "close up" shot sashays across the screen. This game also works well with "LIVE AT RED ROCKS". Rock on, Marty Callner!!!! Way to go with those "close-ups". So 80's !!!!!!!!!!:] |
I think everything that everyone has mentioned on here, I have watched on YouTube.
I always wondered why those close ups of Stevie on the Tango tour videos looked so out of place. It looks like they might have done the same thing with some of Christine's scenes as well. I hate so much that Lindsey did not do the Tango tour. Those videos would be so much better if it was the Rumours five. They just seem invalid to me since Lindsey is not in those videos. Quote:

The Mirage DVD looks great, but I don't believe it's a good choice, and it's a shame because is just the best material from that tour.
The Tusk one is good, but you won't see enough songs. You see the work at the studio, but not a complete concert. The Dance is really amazing, I've got it too, and its definitely a good show, to see and listen. It's a shame that the CD version is not complete. About Boston, yeah, it's a good show, with too much power, but I think is not good as The Dance is. Anyway, it's agood choice too. And about a FM documentary, definitely Rock Family Trees is the best, even when Lindsey is not there. I like it because it talks about EVERY ERA of the band, the fake Mac, and shows you all the changes until 1995, year of release. Regards! Mark. |
Thanks for the replies. :thumbsup: I guess The Dance dvd will take some beating. I'd love more dvd's with this line-up. If the Mirage dvd is as good as the VHS re picture and sound, I'll get this one. I'd love to get the Tusk documentary. Is this available on dvd, I've only seen it on VHS years ago, and does it contain complete songs? I wish they'd release official dvd's of their 1975 and 1977 tours. I've seen bootlegs on ebay but I wasn't sure of the quality. Thanks, Rich.

The Mirage concert is a bootleg and you can watch it on YouTube for free instead of giving a bootlegger your money. One of my favorites was the Disney Documentary, not officially released on DVD. There is a program called YouTube Downloader that will allow you to capture videos and burn them, if you prefer.

I would LOVE to see the Mirage tour in its entirety. I would also love to see the Mac live at the US Festival. Not sure why that has not come out yet. Stevie's 1983 US Festival appearance is a great show.
I really dislike the late 80's style of concerts where it is not really live. They get all glammed up and lip sync to the live cut and throw in the live show scenes from far away. Stevie Nicks Red Rocks and the Mac Tango DVD shows are 2 examples of this trickery. I cant stand to watch it. |

Clean up the Mirage DVD with todays High tech digital studios .They can enhance the old master tapes and make the Tusk docu look fresh .Put Tusk docu on DVD comes to mind at this moment.Also FM's US fest too.

It's unfortunate the Mirage show has not been reissued. I have the official originally released VCR edition, but it doesn't feature the entire show. Although the transfer isn't flawless, I don't consider it to be "bad" by any means (the Mirage DVD transfer). The content however, is just WOW. They were all giving it their all, great songs, so much energy and the actual scene filming by HBO is superb.
Its what took me from a "Hey fleetwood mac is great band, the dance is awesome!" to "... :eek: this is the best thing ever, I can die happy" Its a must own, right up there with the Dance. Destiny rules is enjoyable, but has limited reputability. |
As I know, the Mirage DVD is a brazilian production, but here in Argentina were produced lot of copies, sadly, with a wrong cover, as they've got a picture from the Behind The Mask lineup... :shrug:
About the quality, I think it looks great, but has no the ideal sound, and it's not a complete show. And as I said before, it's a shame there's not a complete concert from the Tusk tour. Definitely it would look and sound better!! The TITN show is really a waste of time. Even the Mirage one is better. The Dance and Boston are the best, BUT, when Boston has the energy, The Dance has the emotions. And a possible DVD of this tour could be a mix of both. About solo concerts, Soundstage is the Lindsey's best, and White Winged Dove is the Stevie's one, and is just between the Tusk and the Mirage tours. See the quality! Maybe Mirage is not crappy at all. Regards! |
I'm surprised, am I the only one that wish a DVD of the Landover 1983 Stevie show? That show was a bomb! If it were cleaned up and released as a DVD I would be happy...

I've just watched a live concert from 1975 on youtube. Great concert. It says it's complete, but it's only 11 songs. Is this a complete concert? I'm surprised Stevie had only one lead (Rhiannon). I'm surprised they didn't perform Landslide or Say you love me. It was great to hear all of them harmonising on an old Mac song though, Station man. Rich.

It's a tragedy that the Mirage concert hasn't had an official DVD release in the US. In my opinion, it's far and away the best Fleetwood Mac concert video. The Tango In The Night DVD is absolute garbage mostly due to the (over)production of the show. I'm not too hot on the Live In Boston DVD(s) either. There's no reason why it should be split on two separate discs and the accompanying CD from the show isn't any better. A complete lackluster release in my view.
Besides the Tusk documentary, the documentaries for Christine's 1984 album and Mick's The Visitor need to be officially released on DVD too. Hopefully one day that will happen. |

1975 Largo 1975 Passaic 1976 Rosebud 1976 Midnight special 1977 Tokyo 1977 Sidney (sorry I forgot also this one!) 1978 Largo 1979 Largo 1979 Tusk documentary (St. Louis) 1980 Richfield (lost) 1982 San Bernardino or Us festival (unreleased) 1982 Inglewood or HBO concert 1987 San Francisco while the Stevie pro-shot are: 1981 HBO concert 1983 Largo or Landover 1983 Us festival 1986 Red rocks I personally want all the complete remastered footage released from any of this concerts. I think it would be a nice move for FM (and Stevie) now to release box-sets of their classic albums with the remastered album, alternate versions and outer outtakes and remastered live DVD. For now this has been realized only for "Rumours" jumping over the white album and letting the 35 Tusk anniversay pass. I think they don't realize how much fans want to see these things. |
