I picked 40 because it was the highest number, but I think Enchanted had 50, right? So, really I'd like to say about 70 because she's had three albums since Enchanted, and a few more soundtrack tunes.
Then again, if this anthology were marketed as more of an Enchanted II, then 45 tracks is probably sufficient to pick up where Enchanted left off, still spread across three CDs, including the tracks that were missed the first time like Mirror Mirror, Inspiration, Real Tears, etc... |
For an anthology I'd say 40 songs:
CD 1: Stop Dragging My Heart Around Leather and Lace Edge of Seventeen After The Glitter Fades Bella Donna Blue Lamp Stand Back If Anyone Falls In Love Nightbird Beauty and the Beast Sleeping Angel Talk To Me I Can't Wait Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You Battle of the Dragons Rooms On Fire Two Kinds of Love Long Way To Go Ooh My Love Sometimes It's a Bitch CD 2: Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind Blue Denim Twisted Reconsider Me Every Day Planets of the Universe Sorcerer Trouble In Shangri-La Love Is Touched By An Angel Secret Love For What It's Worth Moonlight Soldier's Angel You Can't Fix This The Dealer Lady Starshine 24 Karat Gold Blue Water |

I really hope Stevie's next move, if not a new album, is a boxset of all her solo albums with new liner notes, all digitally remastered with bonus tracks, and then a bonus disc. Something like this:
Stevie Nicks: The Complete Studio Recordings Disc 1 - Bella Donna CD/DVD set with HBO special + Blue Lamp, Gold & Braid, alternate mixes, outtakes etc Disc 2 - The Wild Heart + Garbo & bonus material Disc 3 - Rock A Little CD/DVD set with Red Rocks+ OMBTR&RS, Mirror Mirror, The Nightmare (12" remix) & bonus material Disc 4 - The Otherside Of the Mirror + Real Tears, Whole Lotta Trouble live etc Disc 5 - Street Angel + Inspiration, God's Garden, Thousand Days etc Disc 6 - Trouble In Shangri-La + full 'Planets', Thrown Down, My Heart and alternate mixes/remixes Disc 7 - Soundstage Sessions CD/DVD set + Gold Dust Woman and Edge of Seventeen Disc 8 - In Your Dreams CD/DVD set including the documentary Disc 9 - 24 Karat Gold Deluxe version Disc 10 - Bonus 1. Sleeping Angel 2. Voilet & Blue 3. Battle of the Dragon 4. Talk To Me (Time/Life version) 5. Sometime's It's A Bitch 6. Love's A Hard Game to Play 7. Desert Angel 8. Touched By An Angel 9. If You Ever Did Believe 10. Crystal 11. Twisted (soundtrack version) 12. My Heart (IYD version) 13. At Last 14. Free Fallin' 15. It's Late 16. Reconsider Me 17. You Can't Fix This |
imo..
a true Stevie Nicks Anthology should include her Fleetwood Mac work as it is among her best. It may not be solo music, but it still is Stevie Nicks and a significant part of her work.

I agree theoretically with the principle of an anthology with both solo and FM work, but from a practical point of view I have to say that including her group work would make the anthology of even more colossal proportions.
Also, her group efforts are very different from her solo work and they would sound better if they were released as two separate anthological releases. Including only her solo work would make room for interesting deep cuts that are less known to the audience. I would make something like this: 1) Stop Draggin' my heart around 2) Gold and braid 3) Edge of seventeen 4) Bella Donna 5) Leather and lace 6) How still my love 7) After the glitter fades 8) Blue lamp 9) The wild heart 10) If anyone falls 11) Nightbird 12) Stand back 13) I will run to you 14) Beauty and the Beast 15) Battle of the dragon 16) Violet and blue 17) Rock a little 18) Imperial hotel 19) Talk to me 20) I can't wait 21) Has anyone ever written anything for you? 22) Rooms on fire 23) Alice 24) Whole lotta trouble 25) Long way to go 26) Two kinds of love 27) Blue Denim 28) Maybe love will change your mind 29) Crystal 30) If you ever did believe 31) Trouble in Shangri-La 32) Everyday 33) Planets of the unverse 34) Sorcerer 35) Secret love 36) For what it's worth 37) The dealer 38) 24 Karat gold 39) Mabel Normand 40) Lady (Not necessarily in this order) |

Given the volume of her work, it would be somewhat unwieldy compromise to encompass both worlds in a compilation. Her Fleetwood Mac songs are infinitely more familiar, circulated and accessible. Her solo work has the integrity to stand on its own, yet a good portion of it is either obscure or unattainable. I hope she releases more "new" music in the same manner as 24 Karat Gold. However, a new Enchanted-like box set would be welcome, featuring a complete updated iteration of all her stray songs (b-sides, soundtracks etc...), along with select tracks from her three albums since then, as well as rare songs - live, demos and alternate mixes. It could easily be a three disc set, along with a DVD! |
She's already released one Mac track, "Silver Springs" on a solo compilation, so that opens the door for more. A true retrospective of her best work ought to include both. Of course, diehard fans can easily compile their own playlist. But it would be nice for more casual fans to appreciate the overall greatness she's achieved both solo and with others (Mac/duets).
So my initial list would be (assuming this all would fit onto discs): Disc 1: Rhiannon Landslide Dreams Silver Springs (original mix) Gold Dust Woman Sara Storms Angel Leather & Lace Stop Draggin' My Heart Around Kind of Woman Blue Lamp Sleeping Angel That's Alright Gypsy Straight Back Garbo Beauty & the Beast Disc 2: If Anyone Falls Nightbird Stand Back Talk to Me Imperial Hotel Seven Wonders No Questions Asked Twisted If You Ever Did Believe Sorcerer Planets of the Universe (full length) Thrown Down Moonlight Annabel Lee You May Be the One 24 Karat Gold Starshine Belle Fleur |
I have spent this past month trying to come up with the ULTIMATE Stevie Nicks playlist for my iTunes/iPod. I tried my best to sequence it just right...to make one song flow into the next and I think I've finally got my complete track listing. So yes, this is what my version of a perfect Stevie Nicks Boxed Set Anthology would look like. And yes, it includes both solo and Fleetwood Mac, like any complete and comprehensive Stevie Nicks retrospective should. I really hope something like this comes to fruition someday!

Gloria Estefan Lou Reed STING Bryan Ferry George Michael MICHAEL JACKSON Diana Ross Kenny Loggins... ...shall I go on? It is totally within the realm of possibility that a Stevie solo AND Mac anthology could be released. After all, Stevie's Mac songs are still copy written under her publishing company "Welsh Witch Music" plus her relationship with Mick is better than ever. It is HE, after all, who would have to give permission for "studio album Mac" songs to appear on a "Stevie Nicks" release...and I don't see why he wouldn't do that. Fleetwood Mac would also profit from it as well. It would be a win-win. Don't forget that the studio version of "Silver Springs" was on CRYSTAL VISIONS...most likely as an apology from Mick for not letting her have it for "Timespace". I seriously doubt he'd make that mistake again. So yes, it's your opinion that it WON'T happen...and it's MY opinion that it WILL happen. Let's just agree to disagree. :sorry::xoxo: |
