Great tune...should have been included in the 1982 setlist, but it likely would've been redundant with Sisters of the Moon. And if we didn't have Sisters in that setlist, we wouldn't have the famous 'tongues' version of the song which every performance before and after will always be compared to!

It's a pity that one of my favourite songs may never be performed on stage.

Take 2 sounds more like a raw studio demo than a live performance. The backing vocals by Lindsey and Christine sound too good and polished to be live. The first one though, sounds like a tour rehearsal.

I've always loved Straight Back. I'm loving the tour rehearsal even more.

Completely disagree. It's one of my favourites, and the vocal is outstanding.

I always found it odd that Stevie only did 1 new song in the Mirage set, compared with 2 on the Rumours Tour and 3 on the Tusk tour. It seemed that 82/83 was the start of Stevie's phobia of adding deep cuts and shaking up the setlist.

One of my favorite stevie songs. Straight Back is one song I listen to regularly from Mirage.

Well damn. That sounds really good. Straight Back should have made it on the set list. Book of Love should have also.

"Straight Back" is in my top 10 most played songs in iTunes. It was one of those songs that didn't immediately jump out and catch my attention but once it did I couldn't get enough. I like everything about it. I also think it would be great live now.

I love the mysticism of it. The production definitely makes this song. Love it.

"Straight Back" is probably my least favorite song on Mirage and one of Stevie's worst FM songs. It just meanders and never takes off in any way. However, it does top "When I See You Again."

I really used to dislike Straight Back and I still can't take to it in the confines of Mirage. In other contexts it seems to improve somehow. I have it in a playlist that goes Sugar Daddy- Born Enchanter- Straight Back-Sooner or Later- Tango in the Night with about a 10-second cross fade between tracks and it has really grown on me. Odd, as I'm a bit low on chiffon...

Same here, though my first listen of the song may have skewed my impression of it permanently. I was flying to Las Vegas for the first time in my life, listening to Mirage on my headphones (I'd just gotten it & Tango for my 19th birthday). Anyway, Straight Back came on as I was flying over the Grand Canyon & Lake Mead. I had this totally existential experience hearing the song & seeing that scenery for the first time. It just couldn't have been a better soundtrack for the moment. 13 years later, I still can't hear the song without thinking of that imagery. :)

In any event, I've always felt Straight Back doesn't get it's due respect. It may be a poor man's Sister Of The Moon, but it's still a great little song. :p

I was also flying, except I was flying to London to meet with someone I really didn't want to see, and as soon as I touched down, the chorus began, and I felt this horrid surge of anger and euphoria. Later, it turned into an amazing experience, but I just remembered that darkness...

I sort of agree. Love the melody but the lyrics seem really lazy to me and nonsensical. Production is stellar though.

Screw the FM song story, this sounds more intriguing to me. Spill girlfriend.Why would you be flying over seas to see someone you did not want to see?

Uh oh, Ledgie story time! Let's try this:

So I'm from London, but I was living in France at that time. While there, I got into lots of trouble and pretty much partied all day and all night. My favourite thing about this time though was Bastille Day (I'm an amateur French Revolution historian) and I was in this little parade and everyone was sloshed and I dressed up as the Goddess of Reason and was carried through the streets of Paris singing La Marseillaise (not kidding.) Anyways, my "boyfriend" was still in London, and when he heard about what I was doing with my life, he told me to come back home. And I did, because I probably would have ended up penniless or dead, to be honest.

So I fly back to London to meet him, and I literally hated him for being so controlling and things like that. I felt so embarrassed, like a child who's being punished, and I resented every inch of him. But then when I came back to my senses, I realized he had always been like that, even with little things, so even though I appreciate his concern for my well-being, I realized I had to be my own saviour, and be the person I wanted to be. Because at that time I was co-dependent on others for my own happiness. So when I looked into his Brown Eyes, "what do you want to say? are you just another liar?" Can I not make a life for my own? You can't tell me otherwise, or make me do anything I don't want to. So that's pretty much why I didn't want to go back, but I'm glad I did.

Ohhh Mirage and Straight Back haters, I feel shame for you!!! Hahahaha
This is one of the most beautiful songs of Stevie from her FM repertory. I say this everytime, but it's a strong song, and everything sounds really good, drums, voices, guitars, keyboards...Even when I really don't like the sound of the songs from the Mirage tour at all, the song itself has a unique power, something that makes it really incredible.
