'24 Karat Gold' on the Billboard 200
Well it looks like '24 Karat Gold' will be at #8 on the Billboard 200 on sales of approximately 26,000, according to Hits Daily Double. That is precisely HALF of what 'In Your Dreams' sold 3 years ago.
Personally, even though I know there has been very little promotion for this album, I am disappointed by this figure and thought the album would sell about 35-40,000. At least this is another top 10 album in the bag for Stevie but I'm sure she'll be disappointed with that figure. I know though that the music business is in a terrible way but for an act like Stevie that is low. For me, this album blows IYD out of the water and that's why I'm slightly disappointed as I want as many people as possible to hear this great record. :) |

I hope it doesn't plummet next week even though there's no reason why it shouldn't. IYD only dropped 10 places in its second week which is impressive for an act like Stevie but '24 Karat Gold' could well miss out on the top 40 in its second week and that would be embarrassing. |

I'm honestly shocked the album broke the top 10- I wasn't expecting that. I'm proud of our girl.

I'm also very happy! Number 8 is nothing to scoff at! Nobody buys music anymore. Everyone steals, borrows, and copies. The music industry SUCKS now...so the low sales here are not surprising!
Nothing presented here (being that Stevie debuted at #8) should be a negative reflection on her or this fabulous record she has given us! I'm amazed and on cloud nine! So happy for her!!!:] |
HA! And to think it's being said elsewhere that Stevie's career is going down in flames...As I questioned quite a while back...What effect will her not being able to fully promote "24K" have on sales?
|
Hopefully she'll peak higher when she decides to promote the album
|
Top ten is quite good for someone in Stevie's generation of rockers..to put it in perspective her biggest rival at the height of her solo career Pat Benatar has not seen the Billboard 200 top 10 since her Get Nervous album in 1982.
|
So the 26,000 is sales for the first week? Includes downloads and vinyls and everything?
This could conceivably hit 100K sales over time. I mean, I bought 3 versions myself.... |

I wonder if Mick will help her out when doing his book promotion? I know he's promoting his book and I wonder if he'll mention the fact that he's the subject of a couple of tracks on the album. |

IYD managed 16 weeks on the Billboard 200 due to all of the shows she was on at the time. I remember that whenever she was on say 'American Idol', the album would be back up to #150 or so. If this album gets no more promotion then it's going to be a pretty steep decline in sales from now on. We will be able to see how no promotion is affecting the albums sales next week. If it is still within the top 40 then I predict it'll last about 6 weeks in total on the Billboard 200. If it is at about #60 or lower then it'll last only a couple of weeks. I predict that it'll be at around #35 next week and it'll last about 6 weeks on the Billboard 200. I don't think it'll get to 100,000 very easily. I hope it does though! :) |
:thumbsup:24 Karat Gold selling @26K is great! It's exactly where, initially, I expected her first week sales to be 3.5 yrs after IYD. Record sales (as everyone should understand) are even more is the toilet than 2011, so most acts are selling half of what they sold previously. So the sheer fact that she pulled off another top 10 record is really incredible -- Her 6th solo top 10 album & her 7th top 10 album with FM = 13 top 10 records between solo & FM - I wonder if that's a record (solo & group top 10 albums)??
Pre-promotion was decent. Post-promotion will be non-existent. Esp. since it's now all about the FM tour. But , make no mistake aboit it, 24 Karat Gold will be an important part of Stevies' recording legacy |
Sales are rubbish at the moment, but a top 10 album is a top 10 album. Go Stevie!

Bob Seger is predicted to sell about 50,000 copies of his new album next week. I wonder if he's been promoting it? What really gets to me is the fact that if Stevie promoted this album then it could've sold about 40,000 and would've gone top 5 which would've made her look fantastic and would've shown how incredibly popular she still is. (Though top 10 is still pretty good). The fact is, 26,000 copies of '24 Karat Gold' were bought from people who either heard a song off of the album and liked it or from people who just like Stevie and the album itself. It wasn't Stevie trying really hard to promote it or someone pushing the fact that 'The new album from Stevie Nicks is out now. BUY IT!!!' The fact that Stevie can put together an album in two months, go on a phenomenally successful tour, throw out a solo record, do very little/no promotion for it and it goes top 10! Now THAT is pretty cool. |

Top 5 doesn't matter. Top 10 only matters with singles. Albums are different - Top 10 does not count as much. Longevity counts. |

Songs for Seagull by Joni Mitchell never went gold. Many great albums have not. Street Angel went Gold. Doesn't make sense. |
I am thrilled - and Stevie should be too. No need to repeat all of the great comments on this thread, but bottom line for me is that the record industry is dying a slow death in terms of album sales. For Stevie to create, as she correctly called it, a great album, in such a short period of time, and for it to debut in the Top 10 while she's on a world tour with her band, is truly a great accomplishment. It's an important record for her legacy, and hopefully a sign of things to come.

I'm just interested in album sales and I agree that this is a fantastic album. Now that Stevie doesn't seem to care about sales, I hope there'll be a 'Vol 2' and hopefully it'll be just as good as this one. Also, in the commentary video posted on YouTube for 'All The Beautiful Worlds', Stevie says that it'll be great on stage. Is that her admitting an upcoming solo tour? |

When Street Angel peaked at something like 45 I honestly thought Nicks would never see another Top 10 album, so the fact that she's on track to achieve 3 in a row is very impressive. |

I wonder if there are any other plans to promote the album; maybe Dave has some creative idea planned. The reviews have been good, so that's promotion in itself. I wish Rolling Stone would feature her on the cover, as sort of a updated full circle version of her cover in 1981. |
Well as usual, Billboard is quite a bit different to Hits Daily Double!
Apparently, the album has debuted at #7 with sales of 33,000, not #8 with sales of 26,000. That's a bit of a difference. Oh well, even better news! :] |
From Billboard:
Rock legend Stevie Nicks nets her sixth top 10 solo album, as her quasi-archival release 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault set starts at No. 7 (33,000). The set consists of newly-recorded material that was written and recorded in demo versions in earlier years. 24 Karat Gold follows Nicks' In Your Dreams, which debuted (and peaked) at No. 6 back in 2011 (52,000 sold in its first week). |
Congratulations Stevie!!!

Great news! Bet the extra figures were from the Warner Brother site.

Thanks for the news James89! Way to go Stevie! What's good for Stevie is good for Fleetwood Mac, too.
