Lady Video Poll

Interesting posts regarding the new "Lady" video. It has hit a lot of nerves with people including the announcement that a long-time "Ledgie" has decided to turn in his or her Stevie Nicks "fan badge." What do you think about the new video?

olive 09-04-2014 08:13 PM

I like it I did not like the song but I like it with the video reminds me of an old vaudeville singer. and I really like the simplicity of just her in the red curtain

WatchChain 09-04-2014 08:56 PM

Lord knows, I can be a picky bitch, BUT, I LIKE IT! Call me crazy. I like the sparse feel of Stevie in that gorgeous, grand old theater. While there are some lip synching issues, the good outweighs the bad. Although the song was written in 1971 and clearly outlines Stevie's uncertainty of where her life was going at that time, FOR ME, the song now symbolizes THE AGING PROCESS. It's like coming full circle and ending with THE SAME uncertainty that you started with. It's rough, it ain't pretty, but it's real.

BombaySapphire3 09-04-2014 09:11 PM

I love the song but the video not so much so I went with option number 3.

KarmaContestant 09-04-2014 09:42 PM

I like it. It's fine. Stevie doesn't like making videos, so it's better than nothing, in my opinion, but of course it could have been something different.

Andyleo 09-04-2014 09:49 PM

I really like it. It's not my favourite Stevie video, but it stands up against all the rest of them, at least to me...:p

Jondalar 09-04-2014 10:18 PM

Boring to me but don't need an videos
►

Gypsy0033 09-04-2014 10:32 PM

I like it. It's simple and to the point. And in this day and age why spend millions of dollars on a video when MTV and VH1 only show reality shows ( at least in the U.S)
And really, isn't it about the music? Stevie never liked making videos back in the day.
I can't see that changing in 2014.

gypsyrock 09-04-2014 11:14 PM

Ill go with option 1. I love it! I thinks its quite sad and beautiful. Its so simple but the idea comes across. The song is so beautiful and i think the video is a honest portaryal of how,she feels.

WildHearted 09-04-2014 11:17 PM

It's weird that we only ever see the left side of her face. I feel like I'm watching an Ariana Grande music video.

StreetAngel86 09-05-2014 03:57 AM

i like the idea
i like the bare theater with just her so you focus JUST on the song
i don't like how it was shot

MoonSister75 09-05-2014 05:10 AM

I had to go with b. I really like it - the simplicity, the setting etc I just think something could have been added at points - a bit more of Dave even  or just something to break up the sameness. As someone else said it could have been a lot worse, and this is much easier on the eye (and the brain) than Dave's fast moving videos. Also it does really suit the song. Overall I think they did very well with it.

I'm sure they haven't completely turned in the fan badge. I was pretty disappointed in the video. I could see what they were trying to do with the whole classical performance thing, much like what we're doing in college. But yeah I just thought the vid sucked. But I'm still a fan. This girl isn't giving up her fan badge. They'll be back.

 WHAT?! Does this mean I'm still gonna be trying to find myself at age 65?! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Josh2003 09-05-2014 06:46 AM

It's got great imagery, but I kept waiting for something else to happen...like the curtains opening up to something going on behind her, shots to other scenes, etc.

gssmith 09-05-2014 08:13 AM

It was good at first but lost my interest real fast

Tango 09-05-2014 08:20 AM

The dress does nothing for Stevie, except make her look 50 pounds heavier. Who was in charge of wardrobe on this video? They should be fired!

JohnL 09-05-2014 08:29 AM

Ho hum...

I thoroughly LOVE the song but I think the video was a missed opportunity. It was poorly shot and included ZERO close ups of Stevie. There were just too many shots from too far of a distance to hold my interest. I still love the song though.

Whoever directed and filmed this video looks like they just got out of high school or something.

WildHearted 09-05-2014 08:35 AM

Also, it would have been more powerful if we could have actually seen the piano playing the whole time (the one weird flash of Dave didn't work) - even if it was Stevie just sitting there miming it. Because it would have actually seemed like she WAS in an empty theater, singing to no one... This felt very "staged" because it lacked that element.

You would be surprised.;)

evenstevie23 09-05-2014 08:13 PM

Well folks. I loved it. I love anything she does. I am so happy she is still singing and loving it at this age. I am 64 and am glad to be able to still enjoy my favorite lady singing to me anything she feels like singing. Just me though. Not everyone enjoys things the same. What makes us unique people. Stevie fans, I mean. I have been enjoying her music and FM for many years.

PoetofRhiannon 09-05-2014 11:54 PM

I think Stevie did fine, even though you can see her how uncomfortable she is lip-syncing.

I even liked the concept... although I found it a little "Glee-ish"..........

I think that the camera work was depressing -- basically shot from only one angle.

Jondalar 09-06-2014 12:08 AM

I think they were going for documentary style but they didn't quite pull it off. Comes off as cheap and boring. Don't hate it but don't want to watch it again. Blah!

PenguinHead 09-06-2014 12:26 AM

i like who0w her i's look...... their r REALLY cool and inTENSE IS she ON druggs againe?!!!........i havant LLOSSED interest....i lsot mie MINd.....lololo

I have been waiting for your Blah! again..it seems like it as been awhile..The last one I can accurately cite is when you found out Moonlight and Lady from the Mountain had been consolidated.

I agree. The dresses she's been wearing these days do nothing for her. She should wear dresses that come tight around the chest and are loose around the waist down.

Or she could sit on the piano like they did back in the 20's. That'd be cool:D

Definitely. It came off as far too staged for the stark song that accompanies it. The whole thing just didn't really work for me. But when I listen to the song I have a mental image of Stevie wailing on her piano, and it's possible that any image of her singing this song that doesn't match that isn't going to work for me. Oh well.

It goes in the "not interested in watching again" pile, along with most of Stevie's videos. No big thang. But it's not a video I would use to introduce people to the song.

Keith 09-06-2014 09:34 AM

hmm..

Somewhere on the middle of the stage was an interesting concept.. just didn't work for me. However, I do love the song and that is the best part of the video.. the audio.

Imagine that theatre, with Dave on piano, Stevie sitting on it with her beautiful white piano shawl and hair all big, her make up dark and careless, and just sitting and singing, creating an atmosphere of antiquity, or SOMETHING...

WildHearted 09-06-2014 10:54 AM

I just realized the video is "unlisted" - meaning the video can't be seen by anyone who doesn't have the link...

That's weird?

Weird - I guess that explains why I couldn't find it via a search.

I think it's just because the video is meant to be provided "exclusively" by a certain website. It'll become listed eventually.

But the message that says "This video is unlisted. Think twice before you share it" comes off as a little snarly, coming from Youtube. You do know how your website works, right youtube?

Bandon 09-06-2014 12:49 PM

So based on the poll results from Ledge fans, the actual video gets a thumbs down review overall.

Huh, you're on crack. Your memory is gone. I like Moonlight, but it's too long and I like White Widow's version Lady from the Mountain the best.

I don't even know what you are talking about. Get off the pipe.

:laugh:It is none of the above Gary..go back and check the thread where the sizzle reel was played and 6 songs from IYD were played at the event Stevie attended in San Diego which Ledgies Jamie and Sapphiresister also attended..You were bahing and blahing all over the place when it was revealed Lady from the Mountain had become Moonlight.

:) ummm the whole songs weren't played right? Those were just snippets.

I'm not as judgmental over this album like a lot of these people. I think this is going to be a mishmash of good and bad. I'm just hoping more good then bad. My expectations are pretty realistic based on the demos she chose.

Six songs were played in their entirety one of them was Moonlight as I recall a third Ledgie who was also there Greatdarkwing spilled the beans about it .

Well I sent the video to a friend who is a long-time Eurythmics fan, so he's very interested in her working with Dave. As you can see from his reply below, he loved it (even the knocking on doors pantomime).

That song is absolutely amazing. I even got a bit teary-eyed listening to it. "Sing it, Stevie," I said aloud. I like it when she knocks on the invisible door. I was excited to come home and listen to the new album with you but now it's become a top priority. If this song is any indication of the new material, we may be on the verge of hearing an album that tops "Bella Donna" and "the Wild Heart" in terms of sheer ear-pleasing brilliance. I am so pleased that she's having a late-career renaissance with Dave along for the ride. I think that he really brings out something epic from within her, something that still manages to seem honest, intimate and true at the same time. He helps her seem like an elder stateswoman for an entire genre of music without making her seem like an anachronism meant to be admired more than enjoyed.

Yeah at the conference but I don't think they were played in their entirety. I never heard full song unil I got the album.
