Nice song. The snippet sounds par for the course.

welcomechris 08-22-2014 12:30 PM

The "Ohhh" part seems a bit stretched but maybe that's just me

Hmm, I was thinking her voice sounded very strained. I'm not digging the background music/production, either- sounds exceedingly middle of the road. Street Angel-esque: in the bad way. By far my least favorite snippet we've gotten. :sorry:

That being said, I will hold out judgment until I hear the full song. I remember how awful I thought the clip of Everybody Loves You was, but the finished song ended up being my favorite track from In Your Dreams. :)

Yay! My prediction was right! The 2014 version is definitely slower than the 1982 version which is a little disappointing but still her voice is good and I like how they have tried to make the songs sound so similar to the original demos. :)

^This. Something about those cheesy synthesizers.

Feels like they've slowed the tempo down a bit also, which makes it feel much more 'adult contemporary' than the original.

Agree though that snippets can be deceptive.

sorcerer999 08-22-2014 12:53 PM

Of course, my opinion is based on 15 seconds, but I love how "weathered and wise" her voice sounds here.

"All the beautiful worlds that I have seen..." sounds much more convincing from a 66 year old than a 35 year old. You can just hear the wisdom in her voice. I don't think it sounds strained at all. :)

Another snippit I'm loving!!! There really hasn't been anything previewed so far that I haven't enjoyed. It's all gotten me excited!

P.S. It's my 1000th post!!! Haha! Guess this means I talk too much!

jkmaletic 08-22-2014 12:58 PM

This is my favorite snippet so far. Sounds wonderful. I think her voice sounds great and I love the drums and bass. :blob2:

markolas 08-22-2014 01:06 PM

I don't think her voice sounds strained at all. It's definitely been slowed down from the outtake; not sure how I feel about that, but I'll have to hear the whole song. I think the vocal is magnificent. The outtake has a very "of its time" sound to it, and I was wondering if the new version would sound that way; fortunately, I don't think it does, based on this clip.

gssmith 08-22-2014 01:08 PM

All the samples sound great to me. Bella flower is my favorite so far. Reminds me of blue lamp. Her voice sounds great to me.

ViscountViktor 08-22-2014 01:09 PM

I think this is my least favourite so far, her voice sounds very strained, and I don;t like the background synth stuff.

markolas 08-22-2014 01:10 PM

It does have a bit of a "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" vibe, music-wise (a song I have warmed up to considerably), but I like that about it.

Hawkeye 08-22-2014 01:13 PM

Love this. Love the way sings the word "down". And I don't mind the background music hear at all.

I have to agree! The wisdom of an older woman is more convincing. This production does remind me a little of Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind, which is not a bad thing. This snippet has really got me Xcited!!! I'm LOVING it!!! :blob2:

wheart 08-22-2014 01:27 PM

I think it sounds very nice indeed!!

BlueLight 08-22-2014 01:30 PM

Gorgeous. I've liked but never loved the demo. This sounds great. Love her voice as she sings "all falling down." The song is much more convincing coming from a 66-year old.

sorcerer999 08-22-2014 01:44 PM

Also, to add...she's singing this in the same exact key as the original Wild Heart outtake. She's also singing "Belle Fleur" and "If You Were My Love" in the same key as her original demos. Surprisingly (or not?) she's singing "Mabel Normand" in a slightly higher key than the demo.

In regards to the complaints about the cheesy synth on this new clip...um...have you HEARD the original version???

This!

I see nothing wrong with the musicality, or the songs arrangement and vocal, based on 15 seconds and all. To my ear, it sounds like a piano or keyboard musical box style arrangement in the background. I hope the verses are still predominantly piano/keyboard based. I miss the piano/keyboard structural arrangements that were central on Bella Donna & Wild Heart.

PenguinHead 08-22-2014 01:56 PM

Sounds like this is shaping up to be a great, diverse album! I'll counter all the concerns.

If we weren't so familiar with the demos in the first place, we wouldn't be so hyper-critical of the new, official versions. Almost of all of these songs are at least 30 years old. We can only hope to be as youthful and active as Stevie is when we are her age. Her voice holds the sound of worldly wisdom of a life well lived.

It's fascinating to read all the diverse opinions and perspectives based on these tiny snippets. We all have a very individual relationship with Stevie, as well as different expectations. It will be very interesting to read the personal assessments when we finally get to hear the album in it's entirety. I except the consensus to be extremely varied.

My thoughts exactly. But I'm going to hold out hope that this just sounds bad taken out of context.

I must say though that I've been thrilled with every other clip!

krrrby 08-22-2014 02:12 PM

I'm trying not to diss Stevie here - and I always cringe when I don't like something that she does - but I'm sorry I think this snippet feels forced. I don't feel like in some of these snippets that she's giving much of a hoot about exercising her vocal range like she really did (in my opinion) with In Your Dreams. I think she showed a lot of talent in those songs - these songs just feel like "Eh, you heard them already as demos so I'm just gonna sing them and be done with it because I've gotta finish this record contract..."

I dunno - I love that she's doing this - but I'm hoping that when I get the songs in its entirety I'm going to regret being a little pessimistic in this post. It just all feels forced.

I...haven't said it until now, but I feel the same way.

I'm excited for the album - and I'll probably play the hell out of it - but it *does* sound like she's avoiding any and all range of vocals. All I've heard is the comfortable range she uses for live performances.

I've been telling myself that it's because she is planning a tour in which she will perform this entire album, and so all of the songs were recorded to translate easily for her to the stage.

Excellent post. I remember how worried some fans here were about IYD (including myself), but then most loved the finished product.
I remember waiting to go into Sunset Sessions in February 2011 thinking, God I hope this Eurythmics guy doesn't mess this up. I was prepared for the worst, but then I heard the songs and happily posted how great they were and how you guys were gonna love them! (remember?)

It's really hard to tell with these 15 second bits what the actual track is going to sound like. And I actually loved the synths on All The Beautiful Worlds. :o

DauphineMarie 08-22-2014 03:04 PM

Honestly, when I first heard it I was not pleased, but after listening to the old demo, I really think it has potential.. Not my favorite snippet either, but I think with the "come, beautiful child-like victim.." part it will all come together, and I think it will sound great when we hear everything in context.

Well, having just listened to the WH outtake & new version snippet back to back a few times (at the same part) - this 2014 version is not really slowed down (or much at all), it only comes across that way due to the instrumentation being more nuanced, and the drum fills are vastly understated compared to the '82 outtake. That, and Stevies voice obviously is not as vibrantly young. But her vocal, to me, sounds solid in this clip.

TxEpiscopalian 08-22-2014 03:36 PM

I am completely unsure on this one. Out of EVERY demo she has ever done, All The Beautiful Worlds is definitely up there with Have No Heart and Space Needle. I love the demo so much and this was definitely something that took me by surprise. The first listen through I was not feeling it, but after a couple of plays its grown on me. I would love to hear the whole song before I make a complete judgement but the tempo change is a bit jolting just based on this little snippet

markolas 08-22-2014 03:40 PM

Someone on "another site" commented that the Wild Heart outtake was sped up, and that the tempo on the new version is what it was meant to sound like all along.

Actually, if you listen to the "Ohhh..." part again, I don't think it's so much strained, as it sounds like there's a skip in the audio track. Is anyone else hearing that?

Goosebumps. I think this one is my favorite so far. The more I hear of these snippets, the more interested I become in hearing this record.

Johnny Stew 08-22-2014 04:50 PM

"All The Beautiful Worlds" is one of my all-time favorite demos/outtakes, and this sounds fantastic. Stevie's latter-day voice is so perfectly suited for these lyrics. Love it!

Yeah! It does sound like a "skip". Either that or a "mixing error", like if the Engineer switched between 2 different vocal "takes" but forgot to blend. Hmmmm?

Exactly, some type of glitch. I think that it might be because of whatever software they used to put the video together. It happens right at what seems to be a major frame change. I'm hoping it's that, and not part of the actual track on the album - because that's the kind of thing that will drive me nuts for the rest of my life, lol.

Maybe they really are trying to stay true to the demo...skips and all...LOL

Just how I envisioned...my favorite so far.

pwyll 08-22-2014 05:51 PM

Tooooooooooooo slooooooooow

DauphineMarie 08-22-2014 05:53 PM

I'm sure this doesn't really belong here, but I thought I would upload my version of All The Beautiful Worlds. I slowed it down to match the 24K version, and also enhanced it so it didn't make my migraines worse (turned down treble) lol It is definitely more easy going when it's slower, but I can't tell if I like it better or not.

Machu 08-22-2014 05:54 PM

It sounds kind of demo-ish--like outtake vocals and temporary music. I do like it, it just sounds rough around the edges. Of course I will reserve my judgement for the full song because it's hard to tell based on 15 seconds.
