By Request: Rank Stevie's 10 best Single Covers

There's no way I'm arranging all of her singles in a list, but my 10 favorite designs are:

1. Planets Of The Universe
2. Edge Of Seventeen
7. After The Glitter Fades
4. Leather And Lace
5. If You Ever Did Believe
6. Whole Lotta Trouble/Love's A Hard Game To Play
7. Stand Back ('83)
8. Long Way To Go
9. Secret Love
10. Reconsider Me

With an honorable mention to the Gypsy single, though I haven't been all that impressed with most of FM's single covers.

I love this thread idea!!! In order from my personal favorite to my least (but still) favorite...

1. Nightbird, Nightbird, NIGHTBIRD!
2. After The Glitter Fades
3.Sorcerer
4. Planets Of The Universe
5. Leather & Lace
6. Edge Of Seventeen
7. If Anyone Falls (Japan)
8. Secret Love
9. Two Kinds Of Love (Australia)
10. I Can't Wait

I will need some pictures to remind me. I'm doing good knowing what The Dealer cover is.

I was originally going to do the Top 10, but figured what the hell -- might as well do the entire set.
Also, I stuck with US covers, since those are the ones I have in my collection.

1. Edge of Seventeen
2. After The Glitter Fades
3. Stand Back
4. If You Ever Did Believe
5. Whole Lotta Trouble
6. Sorcerer
7. Reconsider Me
8. Nightbird
9. Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
10. Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind
11. Secret Love
12. Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
13. The Dealer
14. Every Day
15. Leather & Lace
16. Planets Of The Universe
17. I Can't Wait
18. Blue Denim
19. Talk To Me (ranked low, since it's just a rehash of the 'Rock A Little' cover)
20. Love's A Hard Game To Play
21. Two Kinds of Love
22. If Anyone Falls
23. Rooms On Fire
24. Sometimes It's A Bitch
25. Crash Into Me

Nightbird cover is AMAZING!

While it's my favorite lead single from her albums, I feel like Rooms On Fire has the worst cover art of anything she's ever released.

US released Single Covers

Edge Of Seventeen
I Can't Wait
Stand Back
Nightbird
After The Glitter Fades
Planets Of The Universe
Everyday
Rooms On Fire
Sometimes It's A Bitch
Two Kinds Of Love
Reconsider Me
Maybe Love Can Change Your Mind
If You Ever Did Believe
Stop Dragging My Heart Around
The Dealer - Even though I despise the white blouse thingy, I love the crudeness of this Polaroid! It really captures her raw attitude and equally fried hair = RAL realness! Very Fitting attitude/image for this song.

Talk To Me, HAEWAFY, Crash, Whole Lotta Trouble, If Anyone Falls, Loves A Hard Game To Play, Blue Denim, Secret Love, Leather & Lace, etc., are all blasé to me. I don't even care to bother ranking them.

Reconsider Me - so sexy!
After The Glitter Fades
Nightbird
Stand Back
Edge of 17
If Anyone Falls
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You

The rest....didn't make the list.

This is hard, she hasn't had many great single covers.

My top 10:

1. Edge of Seventeen - I know it looks like she's sniffing her armpit, but I love the purple and her outfit
2. Nightbird - I would LOVE a poster of this cover
3. Stand Back
4. Planets of the Universe
5. After the Glitter Fades
6. Talk to Me
7. Stop Dragging My Heart Around
8. Two Kinds of Love - Great cover, rubbish song
9. Every Day
10. Secret Love

Worst:

Sorcerer - It looks like she was wobbling or trying squat when the person took the picture
Rooms on Fire - Nice boobs, shame about everything else
Has Anyon Ever Written Anything for You - That hat!

The Wild Heart era had a lot of really cool imagery. I love the Rock a Little album cover (that's why Talk to Me is placed 6th on my list) but the single covers are pretty rubbish considering some of the awesome photoshoots that took place during that period. Most of her 1990s covers are just..meh.

LOL. That about sums it up.

Also these:

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i1...Wait-67065.jpg

1 After The Glitter Fades
2 Nightbird
3 Reconsider Me
4 Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
5 Planets of the Universe
6 Two Kinds of Love (European cover, even though it feels like cheating because it's also the OSOTM album insert shot)
7 Edge of Seventeen
8 If You Ever Did Believe
9 Stand Back
10 Blue Denim

1. Nightbird
2. Edge of Seventeen
3. Scorcerer
4. After the Glitter Fades
5. I Can't Wait
6. Stand Back
7. Everyday
8. Talk to Me
9. The Dealer
10. Two Kinds of Love

A little aside to this (great) thread:

I love the Nightbird cover... so stark and beautiful. For a while though that single with the picture sleeve was commanding high prices on eBay, and it still goes a little higher than most and is difficult to find in second-hand stores. Supposedly Stevie had some issue with the cover and pulled it? Anyone have details on that?

1.Nightbird
2.Reconsider Me
3. Edge Of Seventeen
4.If Anyone Falls
5.The Dealer
6.Garbo
7.After The Glitter Fades
8.Kind Of Woman
9.Whole Lotta Trouble
10.Leather and Lace

I was in a Rock A Little listening mood last night, playing all the songs from the era, even those recorded on other albums. Reconsider Me has such a great cover photo!

Even though it is unlikely, I hope that we get a proper CD single for The Dealer.

I would love that too...but the days of CD singles are over. If we're lucky, Warners "might" release a promo single with that nice cover. But that's probably highly unlikely as well.

The "Secret Love" promo CD has that great cover, but Warners just slapped on their basic black and white promo art with running time on the back, instead of putting in some effort to actually create some back cover art, based off of the front.

In order of preference (sort of)

1. Reconsider Me album cover worthy!
2. Edge of Seventeen
3. After the Glitter Fades
4. Nightbird lucky I have this
5. Stop Dragging my Heart Around
6. Secret Love wish this was a CD and 12' single
7. Planets of the Universe
8. Maybe Love will Change Your Mind
9. Everyday
10. Stand Back

Even this would be OK. I was thinking The Dealer might be a good song for remixes...

I think it would be great for remixes. I wish record labels would at least do limited runs of the first promo singles from albums they release. They could market them with b-sides/remixes/live cuts as usual. I think if it were intentionally limited edition (and also available on vinyl), they could make some money.

Totally agree. Limited run singles are such a good idea - promo singles are always in demand and they sell very well on sites like eBay. A limited edition of 500-1000 would be great for fans who like to collect the pysical formats.

A limited series of 12" singles for this album would be so cool! Last night I was playing all of the RAL 12" singles, and thinking the same thing.

That would be so cool. I got spoiled for b-sides with Tori Amos singles, but I think the 12-inch format would be perfect for club mixes, something to put Stevie (or any artist) in a place where people might notice it (and dance to it, lol).
