Outtakes or Mixes that are better then the released versions
My favorite version of Greta is the master mix
Greta (Master Mix) Mirror Mirror (1992 Version) Add to the list people! |
Better version of Gteta. But never connected with the "chamber" lyrics. Too much Ripunzul B.S.. Hate the king and queen crap like on TOSOTM
|
I wish the Wild Heart Dressing room demo went to the studio and release as a single.I do like the studio version though.

I'll go with the obvious one..."Smile At You"
|
I agree about Smile At You, and also The Nightmare ext. vs is way better than the album vs, imo...
|
This version of Doing The Best I Can.
It's just Stevie and the girls and the piano. This raw performance really brings out the emotion in the lyrics IMO. |

The "wall of sound" version of Thrown Down.
The version of Planets Of The Universe with the extra verse. |

I'll add the outtake version of 'Beautiful Child' from the 2004 Tusk reissue and the outtake of 'Oh Daddy,' with vocals by Christine & Stevie only from the Rumours reissue. |

I'm probably in the minority here, but I much prefer the TISL version of "My Heart" with the "shadows and the first sign of life..." part that was sorely missing in the IYD version.
I also prefer the first version of "Bombay Sapphires" that made it on to the TISL acetate before Stevie second guessed herself and re-recorded it with Macy Gray. Ew. The first version just sounds better and paints a better picture, I think. And I much prefer Stevie harmonizing with herself. Plus there's that added bridge, "mmm, but that's my dream, or so it seems" that pretty much puts the capper on what the song is actually about, whereas the other version doesn't. I also like the "Timespace" mixes of both "Violet & Blue" and "Battle Of The Dragon" a hell of a lot more than the "Enchanted" boxed set versions. The volume on the harmonies and the piano being brought higher into the mix on "Violet & Blue" makes so much of a difference. It really gets you rockin' out! |
Breathtaking...

There was a faster punchier version of "Sable on Blonde " that I liked much better

You are not alone by any means. The TISL outtake is FAR superior to the IYD version. I prefer the structure of the song and the more "full" verses. The IYD versions sounds far too hacked together and rushed. |

For me, this is one of the most beautiful and sad things I have ever heard, even if I've listened to it like 900 times in the past 6 years

Smile at You - obviously
Oh Daddy with Christine and Stevie - completely elevates the song from snooze to wow My Heart - Also prefer the TISL version Running Through The Garden - The SYW version kicks ass, but the 80s demo is so... 80s and fabulous. If You Ever Did Believe - Love the version with Sheryl Crow, but the original has THAT voice, so it wins by default. |

The single remixes of "Blue Denim" and "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" are FAR better than the album versions.
The extended rock remix of "I Can't Wait" The alternate, extended version of "Long Way To Go" The full verison of "Planets of the Universe" |

OH and both the Chris Lord-Alge TimeSpace remix AND the Enchanted remaster version of "Whole Lotta Trouble". The album version sounds soooooo flat. Thank you, Rupert Hine, you clown!!
