I LOVE Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me". Now THAT is a song that will bring me to tears every time. Miranda is usually a songwriter, but she didn't write this song. It was a demo intended for her husband to record, and she got hold of the tape. She played it all the way home on repeat and recorded it a few days later.

When I See You Again for me, too, and it's puzzling. It's not a particularly passionate performance. "Whassamattabaaaybay" 90 times? Why? Tango was the end of the era of excess, with Lindsey leaving, Stevie in rehab, Mick up to his ears in debt. I think John went to rehab the same year. It just feels like a real book closer of a song, even though they went on with a new lineup and good music.

New here but these get me flowing

Ooh baby
Forsaken love
Has anyone ever written
Love is
If I where you
Storms
Beautiful child
Beauty and beast
Say goodbye

Danielle 06-14-2014 11:01 AM

Love Is
Beautiful Child
Goodbye Baby

There are more songs that touch me deeply but those three rarely fail to make me cry if I listen to them with attention.

desertangel 06-14-2014 02:23 PM

Beautiful Child
Storms

If we say why, is it TMI? I listened to all Stevie & FM on the 18 hour drive to see my dad for the last time before he passed away. For some reason Beautiful Child made me cry that day and forever more after that. I cry every time I hear it and it's been 12 years. Storms got stuck in my head during a doomed relationship with a guy I was emotionally connected to, but he was kind of a loser. It doesn't make me cry so much as just brings back a deep sadness.

StreetAngel86 06-14-2014 07:15 PM

depending on the mood

When I See You Again

(and especially live)
Beautiful Child
Beauty and the Beast

:(

I can well understand that.

We expect to remember a song playing during a life-changing moment in our life, whether the occasion is happy or sad.

I think it's really odd when I often associate a song with a mundane event that I'd nearly forgotten. Like I'll hear a song I haven't heard in 5 years and recall, "Oooh, that was playing when my car broke down on the way to San Diego." It's like your subconscious tags these little things.

Bella Donna.

It is the saddest song Stevie has ever done. It is gut wrenching.

The live version from the 1981 tour. Holy crapballs.

I don't really cry often with music, but that is certainly one of her most moving.

Sara and Beautiful Child have both pushed me pretty close to welling up on occasion, too.

And actually Doing the Best that I Can. I know it's not one of her more beloved pieces but it's so damn special to me.

Well, some recent events in my life suddenly made me realize what a sad song this was. All of a sudden I knew what she was singing about cause I was feeling this in my life. Amazing, so long a Stevie fan and one day you just 'get' a song after all these years. My, my. I guess that's why we love her music.

When I See You Again

Sara

Beauty And The Beast

Silver Springs

gypsyhelena 06-28-2014 05:40 PM

Storms, Landslide, Sara (especially the Cleaning Lady version), Beautiful Child and Beauty And The Beast. Oh, and sometimes Gypsy, as well- it's not a song that you would immediately think of as being sad, but the lyrics "I still see your bright eyes… I can't find you" and the way they are delivered just get me.

Beauty and the Beast
Love Is
Wild Heart
Landslide
Storms
Beautiful Child (Live at Boston)
Silver Springs
Destiny

He's So Unusual 07-16-2014 05:16 PM

Storms and Gypsy make me tear up from time time.

Kena 07-17-2014 01:57 PM

Landslide (FM Live Album- 1980) It kills me every time.

Live performances of:

Love Is - (one tear slide across her lips....)

Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You (Especially the performance from Woodstock 1998, with her telling the audience something to the effect of she wanted to make them happy and it was good for her and could we do this again sometime soon). Just precious.
