Jondalar 05-14-2014 06:08 PM

I think it's excellent.

BombaySapphire3 05-14-2014 06:09 PM

I had a feeling that 24 karat gold might be in the album title after she referred to the songs as that in the earlier interview.I think that it works for album ..I hope the song itself turns out well.As I recall it has some good lyrics but not much of a melody..maybe Dave can help with that,.

Jondalar 05-14-2014 06:25 PM

Although I love the title, it would also be neat for her name it Maker of Birds or something funky like that.

louielouie2000 05-14-2014 06:27 PM

The title somewhat irks me- it makes the album sound like a standards or greatest hits compilation, which it isn't. The title is very fitting, but will the casual fan avoid it because it sounds like something it isn't?

No. Everyone will know what it is.

SpyNote 05-14-2014 06:34 PM

I voted excellent because of the double-entendre, a general meaning for casual fans and a nod to what hardcore fans actually know it to mean.

StreetAngel86 05-14-2014 06:43 PM

i love it
because she's always talking about pulling songs out of the Vault
and real, old, long time fans will appreciate it
coz we um ... have all those Vaulted songs :D:D

Macfanforever 05-14-2014 07:22 PM

I like it.Its a great title .She doing this for us.Don't you know.

Thank you Stevie...................

michelej1 05-14-2014 08:10 PM

Well, I might have just called it 24 Karat Gold and left out the subtitle.

I mean, it's great for her to tell focused fans that she's doing the long-wanted demos, but for casual listeners, I think it might turn them off. They'll assume the tunes are "old" and not consider the album.

Agree with Michele's comment... I'd be OK with the title if "Songs from the vault" was left off... it's totally unnecessary IMO and can only detract casual listeners. Hardcore fans are going to buy the album even if it's called "Cat Piss" or "Unmarked Grave" or something equally absurd, so the vault aspect doesn't help.

I think it's an excellent title. If casual fans think of it as a retrospective that can be a good thing considering they are only interested in greatest hits albums from classic rockers.

On Ice 05-16-2014 08:40 AM

Love the title! Great song and that's exactly what these songs are, they're treasures and are a testament to her once prolific songwriting output. She knows how much her fans want this and I think she will really deliver the goods. Can't wait to hear it. Thank you Stevie!:xoxo:

wheart 05-16-2014 09:59 AM

I would have preferred simply" 24 karat gold" or "24 karat gold songs". I don't like the "songs from the vault" bit.

Christopher 05-16-2014 10:11 AM

I agree that "24 Karat Gold" would suffice. Maybe she'll drop "Songs from the Vault"...or not, since raiding "You Tube" for lost demos was not only the genesis for this project, but it will also be the big talking point in promotional interviews. It will be Stevies re-telling of the "Without You" story, but on steroids! I think it's brillinat that she is doing a record with all old demos from her songwriting wonder years. This is the record fans have been clamouring about for decades."Just raid your vaults"

Can you imagine how amazing any tour for this album would be? She'll have a 10-minute intro for each song, about how each demo was stolen and then later found!

Definitely going to see her if there is a tour for this album.

Unrelated, I'd like to express my perennial hope that 24 Karat Gold is released on 180gram vinyl as a 2LP set with the CD included. Like In Your Dreams and Say You Will should have been.

YES!! :blob2: I also continue to hold out hope that IYD is released on vinyl of any kind as well, but I'm not holding my breath.

gypsy333 05-16-2014 10:45 AM

I actually like the ":Songs from the Vault " part of the title...for some reason it makes me think of "the basement tapes" ??

Dex 05-16-2014 12:13 PM

I think 24-Karat Gold sounds hokey. It sounds like the title of some half-assed compilation album by an aging pop diva... Which I suppose someone could argue is exactly what this album might be. ;) But yeah, it's not one I'm a fan of.

However, it's amazing how little names actually matter at the end of the day. You just get used to them and forget about them. I wasn't terribly sold on In Your Dreams either, when it was announced.

I have a Twitter account, but I don't use it for tweeting. If I did, I'd ask Dave about that possibility - though he likely has no say or influence in the matter.

I think releasing the album on vinyl is decided by Warner Brothers, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for Dave and/or Stevie to suggest the possibility to the powers that be, after all "Crystal Visions" was released on vinyl and was successful in that format. Now that it's out of print, it commands a very high price, even for a used copy.

Vinyl is more popular than ever these days ~ I can't imagine they wouldn't capitalize on the opportunity to release "24 Karat Gold" in that format as well.

Here's hoping!!! :)

Agreed - and Dave has been very keen on releasing his own albums on vinyl recently. I desperately want Crystal Visions on vinyl, but just can't justify the cost.

It reminds me of those compilation commercials where you can buy a 3 volume set of hit songs from the 80s, by various artists. I'm pretty sure one of those albums was called 24 Karat Gold.

That in itself is fine, because Viv has a point that maybe casual fans might want a collection of hits and that's what 24 Karat Gold sounds like, a place where you can get Edge, Gypsy, Rhiannon, and Dreams all at one time.

But when you say VAULT that suggests that they aren't hits. It's a collection of old songs that never made it to albums 20 years ago and why would new listeners want to hear them now.

Of course, Stevie fans want these songs badly, but I think the title puts others off. I mean, even for myself thinking of Michael Jackson ... My feeling on this new album of his is that it's songs that he didn't think were good enough to be released when he was alive, so why would I want to hear whatever some producer has cobbled together today?
And that's a knee jerk reaction too, because I actually DID hear one of the "new" Jackson songs last week and it sounded pretty darn good. It's just the idea of "previously unreleased," "rediscovered" and "lost" music that turns me off. The content can be great, if one gets pass judging a book by its cover -- or title.

I see your point, but don't agree totally. It's not necessarily true that these songs, be they Michael's or Stevie's, are songs that they didn't think were good enough - but rather songs they weren't ready to release - or songs that their producers, perhaps motivated by label pressure, talked them out of - or songs that there just weren't room for - or songs that needed some spark that wasn't yet felt or discovered. They're not throw-aways or leftovers - they're merely unfinished. In Stevie's case, she must feel that the time has come to finish them. She won't live forever, and if she's wanted to get these songs out to the world - it's time to do it *now*. Time flies, and someday Stevie won't be around to finish her own songs. Perhaps the thought of some stranger taking artistic liberties with her demos for the benefit of label execs looking for a posthumous Christmas bonus has lit some fire under her. Her dad died. Her mom died. Chris has had health issues. She has no children of her own - no one to protect her legacy other than her niece. She's got to do it now if she wants it done her way.

PenguinHead 05-16-2014 07:15 PM

24 Karat Gold sounds too much like a title of a compilation album, or a "special" repackaged set compiled by Time/Warner and sold on TV at 2:30 am in a cheesy informercial.

As I suggested a while ago in a previous thread, I always thought NIGHT GALLERY would be a fitting title for a album of her vault songs; material pulled out of the vault, and now presented in her gallery.

And it's a bit of a stretch to deem this material as Gold. While there are some gems worthy of release, much of the material would need a lot of post production work to bring it up to a certain standard. There's no way in hell Stevie would ever release anything that raw and unfinished. Most of it is just work in progress. If you prefer the demos, well, you've got them! There's no need for her to officially release them.

tothegypsy 05-16-2014 07:56 PM

All The Beautiful Worlds could be a nice album title for a collection like this.

I agree. Leave out the subtitle... Makes it sounds like she's ancient and resurrecting songs from tombs.

I totally agree with your points. Also, Night Gallery or as someone mentioned All the Beautiful Worlds would be good.

Tango 05-17-2014 12:28 AM

Of course your post made me think about the title at length. Stevie's had measured success with the whole gold theme over the years:

1- Gold Dust Woman right off the Rumours album. A classic.
2-Gold & Braid I remember thinking this song was entitled Golden Braid until it appeared on the Enchanted Boxed Set)
3-Gold (John Stewart's song--Stevie's voice is prominent on it, and features Lindsey on guitar . . . that song hit #5 on the charts)
4-Golden (Lady Antebellum's work).

Gold seems to be a part of the Nicksonian historical tapestry. I think usage of the word is a good choice for her album.

The "vault" part is curious. I looked the word up in the dictionary just for fun. The usual suspects were there--usage as a noun, a verb, an adjective, etc.

In architecture, one speaks of vaults like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ione_upper.jpg
Clearly, Stevie wasn't talking about this sort of vault.

In banking, most people imagine something like this:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/86/25...e5c259b50d.jpg
This vault is in Denver, CO. Maybe Stevie was referring to a place of storage/protection. (Yet she says, "Someone STOLE my songs!") She must not have had a secure vault at that time.

In sports, of course there's the pole vault:
http://www.doitpoms.ac.uk/tlplib/fib...pole_vault.jpg
Nope. That vault doesn't fit at all.

then I saw vaulting horses:

http://www.kapitiequestrian.com/wp-c...leDavies12.jpg

Will that white horse be making a comeback on this latest album? (the brown horse tried to kill her)

After The Glitter Fades-What I seem to touch these days has turned to GOLD

Rose Garden-A Band of GOLD

Julia-A small GOLDEN horse

Italian Summer-The rose stood out red against the GOLDEN wall

Three Birds Of Rhiannon-One GOLDEN like a sunbeam through the night

Artemis 05-17-2014 08:50 AM

While I love the idea of the whole album, I really hope the title gets changed. It's just so cheesy and longwinded. If Stevie is considering it to be a proper solo album, it should have a better name. It sounds like a half-assed collection that should be sold on shopping channels.

krrrby 05-17-2014 09:29 AM

Maybe someone else noticed this - but now that we know the album is going to be songs from the vault and everyone speculating whether or not there will be Rhiannon songs in this album...

I'm thinking of the picture that Dave posted with him and Waddy and a picture of the Rhiannon painting against the board - that says to me that one of these Rhiannon songs is going to surface for sure.

I don't mind if she calls it 24k gold - but I don't like the "songs from the vault" - would promoting that you redid your old songs really market well, or would you want the chance to sell as many albums as you can with a lot of not-so-hardcore Stevie fans thinking that this is new material? *shrug*

http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...ps80c49c7c.gif

There's a piece that Stevie wrote explaining the "Rhiannon" painting...

"Rhiannon was started at the onset of Robin's Leukemia~ last August~
she died last Tuesday~

She was originally finished for Patrick at the City of Hope~ he died while she was still in her grey stage~

I finished her in brilliance upon Robins death~ because Robin was brilliant~

May she be a patron of driving this disease away~ it cannot live this cancer~ amongst Rhiannon's bright colors~ she was a bright light girl~ and we will fight on white light"
~S. Nicks, 1982

The presence of her Rhiannon painting on the console may have just as much to do with John's cancer as the possibility of the "Rhiannon" songs being included on "24 Karat Gold"...
