Great find! That is a great song and they harmonized beautifully. Yes, that song would be a great FM song done with Stevie, Lindsey and Christine at vocals. Love it!

shackin'up 03-13-2014 05:07 PM

Thanks jcfree, it's a song that has FM written all over it. Rythmsection too. This would have fitted perfectly on Tusk, or Mirage, in my opinion.
I hope that after 122 views, more people give their opinion. Could have been a Christinesong too, by the way.

What strikes me about the song is how American it sounds, not only in sound but in the imagery -- "fast lane," "calm after the storm." This could fit not only in a FM album, but also in a Roseanne Cash or even Bruce Springsteen collection of songs.

I love the simplicity and emotion in it. Is there going to be a full CD by this band? By the way, did they win? I didn't even realize the Eurosong contest still happens. I remember watching it as a child and rooting for my favorite songs. That was a long time ago.

shackin'up 03-18-2014 01:30 PM

Yes, there is going to be a full album by this band. It's not out yet, but I'll keep you posted. They have NOT won the eurovision, it will have no chance at all. The eurovision is full of crap and usually a eurodiscosong with a huge theatrical bull****ty performance wins. In the beginning of May the contest starts with two semifinals and a finalround. It's unbearable to watch.

You describe exactly why I like this song. And the lovetheme of this song fits perfectly in the buckinghamnicksstory AND the reflective return of the 5 piece successformation.

when was it not full of silly crappy songs? just now and then someone would have their Waterloo there and become hugely popular, but really... ;)

I was a child then... and we only got one channel. That's my excuse. ;)

Well in the early days we had years that there was a 10 percent decent songs level. Nowadays it's 2 percent.

chiliD 03-18-2014 06:33 PM

Ok, I'm hooked.

Can't wait for their album. Listened to a couple of tunes from Ilsa's 1998 debut album...they're great, too!

Don't care for Ilse solo-but onboard with the late BN/early FM sound. Very lovely.

RockawayBlind 03-19-2014 10:22 AM

This is very much the type of sound that I have advocated in other threads for a new FM record: Warm, acoustic-based with some tasty electric guitar licks.

I went back to the songs of the EP just to see if somehow they would grow on me, and really, they haven't. I hope if there is a new album, it won't sound like that.

aprilsrain 03-19-2014 01:32 PM

Wow do all this band's songs sound like this? Very tusk. I love it.

shackin'up 03-19-2014 05:10 PM

This band is solely formed for de eurovision contest. Waylon and Ilse wrote about 28 songs together to pick from. A selection from those songs are recorded for an album. Great that you guys picked up on this thread. I'll post updates on the release of their album in this thread.

And Rockaway, I totally agree on the warmth and the soundstyle. I wish FM would turn back to the Tusksound....

shackin'up 03-19-2014 05:17 PM

Releasedate Common Linnets (no title) is May 9th. 13 tracks.

RockawayBlind 03-20-2014 08:30 AM

I'd love to hear a Tusk-like sound. But the chances are zero to none. Based on the EP's frumpy sound, I have low expectations for a new album. I hope I am wrong.

shackin'up 05-07-2014 05:36 PM

Well, yesterday was the first semi-finale. The song made it to the final saturday.

This is how they did it: beautifully produced

And it ended in second place. Best dutch entry in (almost) 40 years. Album out soon ChiliD !

Thank you so much for alerting me to this song. Way back when you first posted, I was absolutely hooked and the YouTube video got a good work out. I then actually sat down to watch *all* of Eurovision last night, and I was stoked that they made second place. The song is so damn good and so unEurovision that I can't believe it did so well. Ilse and Waylon were a joy to watch perform, and in the green room given how ecstatic they were every time they got points (Team Austria, on the other hand, needed to ease up on the crying...).

I bought the album last night, and have been listening to it all day. Some of the songs are a little bit more country than I'd normally go for, but they're growing on me. And there are at least four or five songs that are instantly appealing.

I don't think any song on the album tops Calm After the Storm, but it's so close to perfection that it was always going to be a huge ask. The song's getting a fair bit of love here in Australia today, so hopefully more people will get to hear it post-Eurovision.

Thanks again -- best find in quite a while for me!

Hello all---

First, I'd also like to say thanks for sharing this song. I fell in love with it instantly. FM would be lucky to come up with a song like this. It's got that classic McVie bass groove going for it.

For those who are interested, it finally got an official release recently, as did their self-titled album, THE COMMON LINNETS. It's full of lovely two-part harmony. I noticed that it's available on both US iTunes and on Amazon.com.
