So what other bands are you guys into around here?
Personally, I'm an absolute SUCKER for Toto. I think they are awesome. I also love Steely Dan and Genesis. Those guys along with the Mac are pretty much all I listen to these days. Sometimes I'll put on a bit of Foo Fighters though. And I LOVE a bit of Bowie.
When I was a younger I was into Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Incubus, Slipknot, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Pink Floyd (can't listen to them anymore. Brings back, ahem, dubious memories), Senser. My taste changed a bit as I hit my 30s and I went for stuff that was bit softer. The music I listened to as a younger man is just too loud for me now, lol. What about you guys? What else do you dig apart from the obvious? |

I'm not sure there are many bands I have as much by as I do of Fleetwood Mac and pretty close to all Mac related solo recordings or anything they were significantly involved in...
Gene Clark and The Byrds might rank second place. Totally unrelated, but Stereolab I seem to have everything by up to the early 2000s, something around 50 releases including vinyl. The Beatles I probably have everything by but not so much of the later solo years. I have loads of Yes and related things too, but really mainly play the first four albums and any Chris Squire or Steve Howe dominated productions. Fairport Convention and sandy Denny are coming on strong the last few years. If I have books and DVDs about the artists it's getting serious. The Hollies, up to the mid-'70s. Really underrated in America. The Rolling Stones... but only the Brian Jones years so far really. As with Yes I have later stuff but it sits ignored mostly. I also have every Miriam Makeba on vinyl up to the '70s, but that was a shorter lived completist obsession. Los Machucambos seemed to start me on the vinyl completist trail, they are/were a France based south American folk combo who were most popular in the '60s and '70s. A Vancouver group called The Collectors and then Chilliwack was another vinyl obsession where I got as far as all non-LP cuts on singles. Same for Ottawa's Staccatos, and Toronto's The Paupers and Edward Bears. Luke & The Apostles/Kensington Market still have a few major vinyl gaps (especially this one release on a 'Stone' label). Mamas & Paps/Cass Elliot I was heavily into once, but got everything together fairly quickly. Havin some obscurity to chase tends to keep the obsession burning. Also very into The Three Suns as arranged by Charles Albertine for a brief but intense time. Then a lot of folk Decca recordings by Scottish artists Archie Fisher, Barbara Dickson, Rab Noakes and Bread Love & Dreams. Oh yes, and there was a fling with Japanese pop starting with Shonen Knife and ending in Pizzicato Five sometime back in the '90s. Lolita #9, Mummy The Peepshow, Dizzy Joghurt, Puffy Ami-Yumi. I drag them all out every other year. Are you sorry you asked this question yet? |

Hanson
Joni Mitchell Carole King Haim John Denver Dolly Parton Ariana Grande The Beatles Really random stuff tbh. |
I mostly enjoy moldy oldies of any kind of music from the 1920's to the 1980's.

I've gone through so many different music fazes. I tend to really get into something, and then move on to something else. For many years I was into Soul, Funk, Disco, House and Garage.
Some particular favourites in recent years have been: Bob Dylan Joni Mitchell The Killers Bon Iver Nina Simone Aretha Franklin Stevie Wonder The only band that has stuck with me, since my mum and dad bought the Greatest Hits in the 80's, is Fleetwood Mac. Its the only band I have ever gone back to again and again until this day.:) |
(I'm naming the "parent" band or artist...also includes solo material and spin-off groups by the members of the parent band, for example, Rolling Stones would also include Keith's "X-Pensive Winos" & Bill Wyman's "Willy & The Poorboys" blues band)
Allman Bros Band Beatles Eric Clapton Bob Dylan Grateful Dead Little Feat Rolling Stones Santana Bruce Springsteen The Band ZZ Top Those are the main ones...the list is actually quite a bit longer, but don't have time to list them all. |
I love these kinds of threads!
Heart Led Zeppelin Joni Mitchell Lorde Lana Del Rey HAIM (kinda...still getting into them.) Eagles Janis Joplin Johnny Cash Patsy Cline Loretta Lynn Def Leppard Not all of those are "bands" but I love them as well as Stevie/FM :woohoo: |
Hey I did this before! Haha
My other bands: - Supertramp (the first one) - Simply Red - Jamiroquai - Pink Floyd - Genesis - ELO - Spandau Ballet - Wet Wet Wet - OMD - The Police - Swing Out Sister - Propaganda - Robbie Williams - Red Hot Chilli Peppers - UB40 - Elvis - Little Boots - Soda Stereo (my favourite national band) - Elizabeth Gillies (even when she has not released something yet) - and I'm asking myself what can I do with Haim... |

I remember going to see Jamiroquai (we thought they were pronounced jammy-rocka) in this tiny venue, on my 16th birthday, before they were famous, and I was completely blown away - amazing sound and energy, and I loved his voice. I thought to myself -I'm sure they're going to be big. |
Tori Amos
Blondie Abba Bjork Goldfrapp Alanis Morissette Garbage Poe The Cranberries The Goo Goo Dolls The Cardigans Charlotte Martin Joni Mitchell Suzanne Vega Clare Maguire Evanescence |
Seeing a lot of great taste on here. I shouldn't find that surprising, but it is nice to confirm. ;)
I'm not really a "band" person. I mostly listen to singer-songwritery types. Fleetwood Mac is the only band I'd really call myself a fan of, and I always view that more as a group of singer-songwriters sharing space than anything else. Patty Griffin Anais Mitchell Happy Rhodes Kate Bush Jonsi/Sigur Ros Marianne Faithfull Peter Gabriel David Bowie Sarah Slean Jann Arden And, well, lots more really, but those are definitely my main music squeezes these days. |

I've been listening to some of 50 words for snow and I really like it. One of the tracks had me in tears - I guess that's a sign of good music. Its perfect music for winter  |
Sarah Slean, Sarah Harmer, and Sarah McLachlan... the modern Canadian holy trinity... :wavey:
|
If the Ledge Commune ever works out we can have
a big listening session. After Elvis, way after - comes a few others... Not necessarily in order Pink Floyd Stevie Ray Vaughan Robert Cray Dwight Yoakam Shelby Lynne Rosanne Cash Johnny Cash Marty Robbins Eric Clapton Pat Benatar The Go Go's No Doubt Carly Simon Dolly Parton Linda Ronstadt Mark Knopfler Several artist or groups are ascending as I get older, such as... Led Zeppelin Rolling Stones Bob Dylan One of the newest artist (to me) that might have jumped all the way to number two on my list, which does include his solo and group albums is Jack White. One unfortunate tragedy of being a favorite is being played too much. That and as they've gotten older they don't seem capable of great new music. Who you ask? That would be Fleetwood Mac. |

Becca! Highfives for the Sarah Slean love! She is truly wonderful. |
2013 was a good year for concerts for me, 2014 starting off slow to say the least. My most listened to artist of all Time is Fleetwood Mac but I have a few other current interest:
Blondie The Go Go's Evanescence The Pierces (still waiting for opportunity to see these sisters live) Fifth Harmony (not really a "band" but I love this girl group) Cyndi Lauper Florence and the Machine Cheap Trick The Pretenders |
This is in no particular order, not counting Fleetwood Mac and their solo projects:
The Rolling Stones The Beatles Janis Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Co. The Doors The Who The Grateful Dead CSN/CSNY Bob Dylan Jimi Hendrix Jefferson Airplane Prince Simon and Garfunkel Van Morrison Joan Baez The Mamas and the Papas Pink Floyd |
Artists releasing music currently whose every release I purchase:
Morrissey Iris DeMent Bryan Ferry Florrie New Order Son of Bazerk Xenomania (producer) Richard X (producer) Kanye West Jay-Z Pet Shop Boys Saint Etienne Sound of Arrows Justin Timberlake Mika Bright Light Bright Light Beyonce R. Kelly Erasure Dolly Parton |

Dude I believe I can safely say that I don't have any of those artist in my music collection. That means your list stinks. |

I actually found TrueFaith's list refreshingly eclectic. It's a lot more interesting than, say, mine.
Basically though, everyone is going to dislike everyone else's musical taste. There's no point even bringing it up. It's just a rule of thumb. |
Led Zeppelin
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers The Beatles T. Rex The Rolling Stones Pearl Jam Beach Boys Grateful Dead The Cars 10,000 Maniacs (the Natalie years) The B-52's Joni Mitchell Metallica The Supremes David Bowie Gaslight Anthem Bob Dylan ELO The Doors Kate Bush Renee Fleming Queen Eric Clapton |
I just discovered "Beach House". Love them!!!
