Vanessa Carlton Weds in Ceremony Officiated by Stevie Nicks [PHOTOS]

by Cassandra Rose December 27, 2013 11:22 PM Popcrush

In wedding news that will have you scratching your head in confusion and delight, Vanessa Carlton married her fiance, John McCauley, today (Dec. 27) — in a ceremony officiated by Stevie Nicks.

Yes, that Stevie Nicks.

Don’t worry, we have photographic evidence and everything.

Carlton shared the happy-making news on her Twitter account, revealing that not only did she tie the knot with the singer and guitarist from the band Deer Tick, but that the knot tying was done by none other than the Fleetwood Mac songstress herself.

Fans will be happy enough to hear that Carlton is now happily married, but the inclusion of Nicks is just icing on the cake. Figuratively, of course. Although we’re sure the wedding cake had icing as well.

Jondalar 12-28-2013 02:39 AM

I do like the headpiece. She looks good with that on.

Dr.Brown 12-28-2013 03:12 AM

So she's now a bona fide priestess then?

cactusjack 12-28-2013 03:32 AM

In Australia almost anyone can officiate at civil marriage ceremonies, but you need to complete a training course:

•successfully complete a Certificate IV in Celebrancy qualification that includes the four marriage celebrancy units through a registered training organisation or an equivalent university qualification

Maybe things are much laxer in the US.

lulu28 12-28-2013 09:34 AM

This made me smile when I saw the pictures!!! How funny, yet perfectly fitting! Love the headpiece too!!

Vanessa Carlton Marries John McCauley, Stevie Nicks Officiates Wedding: Pictures

Celebrity News
December 28, 2013 AT 10:20AM By Stephanie Webber .

Vanessa Carlton takes the cake when it comes to wedding surprises -- by a landslide! The "A Thousand Miles" singer tied the knot with Deer Tick's lead singer and guitarist John McCauley on Friday, Dec. 27, her manager confirms to Us Weekly. Plus, the new bride shared that Miss Stevie Nicks officiated the ceremony!

PHOTOS: Celebrity weddings 2013

"Married this gentleman two hours ago xo," the 33-year-old musician wrote via Twitter late Friday night. Alongside the caption, the newlywed shared a photo of herself and her new husband beaming at each other while holding hands. Carlton looked stunning for her special day, wearing a tight-fitting, long-sleeved white wedding gown, and donning a purple head piece and matching flowers.

Shortly after, the blushing bride also posted a picture of the couple saying "I do" in front of the Fleetwood Mac songstress. "Thanks Stevie for marrying us!" Carlton gushed. In the photo, Nicks, 65, is seen smiling at Carlton as she officiates the ceremony. She also wears a matching head piece, while McCauley dresses casual in green pants and a brown button-up.

Carlton recently revealed a heartbreaking health scare she experienced back in early November. While pregnant, the singer was diagnosed with a fallopian pregnancy, which is when the embryo settles in the tube and doesn't allow the fetus to develop. But after chemotherapy, she experienced internal bleeding and her tube had to be removed. She shared that her new groom helped her through it all. "I realize I am a lucky woman on many levels here," she wrote on her website.

This is the first marriage for the "Ordinary Day" star. She previously dated Third Eye Blind's Stephan Jenkins from 2002 to 2007.

I actually think Stevie looks slim in these pictures......What people forget she's only tiny...5' 1 or there abouts.

She looks stunning but that jacket thingy does not do her any favors. The top and the skirt are great. The jacket looks too big and loose and untailored. One of her more fitted jackets would have shown off her figure better.

olive 12-29-2013 03:06 PM

nice to see a lady, let alone a celebrity having a simple ceremony and not a media event /circus so many women crave.

She doesn't need a tailored jacket. She looks dressy and great. What do people want her to do - wear a thong or come out in her stage clothes? She looks great and not heavy.

Deeshere 12-29-2013 07:39 PM

Wow.. how cool would it be to have Stevie Nicks signature on your marriage certificate... I so love her... And how dare anyone call her fat ??? She does not look fat, she may not weight 100 lbs anymore, but she still looks amazing. It's easy to forget she's 65 years old.

I hardly think a little tailoring of her jacket equates to wearing a thong.

And I certainly did not say she looked heavy. I believe the word was "stunning". But certain outfits enhance one's good looks and others not so much. YMMV.

You know, Aleuzzi was saying in the other forum that they ask Stevie questions that they wouldn't ask men (i.e. does she sleep with women) but one thing that they DO ask men that they don't ask female celebrities is, "boxers or briefs?"

It's a wonder someone hasn't asked Stevie if she wears a thong.

On of my gripes about Stevie lately is that even through she's still very beautiful and looks much younger than she really is, she keeps dressing like my grandmother (sorry grandmother)... I agree with Stevie that she should not dress like she 25 years old when she's actually 65 years old. That always looks sad.. but Stevie can still pull off some really cute looks if she would just take a chance and drop some of the black in her wardrobe and I would really, really like to see her in some dresses that flatter her looks and her figure..

Sorry, missed the word stunning.

TimeCastASpell 01-12-2014 07:18 PM

She can marry me any day! :P

Sorry couldn't resist. With that said- the unfortunate reality of being a celebrity means there's always going to be some idiot out there that has something bad to say about how you look no matter what. I also think its easy to forget Stevie is 65 and that in general the older people get the heavier they tend to be so with that in mind- much as I've often told my mom who is several years older than Stevie and probably roughly the same height and weight- she's looking astonishing for her age and is probably slimmer than a majority of women in that same age range. I've actually seen body mass index charts online where you can input your age and compare yourself to the average for men or women your age (hence where I got my statistic that the older women get the heavier they tend to be or at least the average goes up). I have no idea what Stevie weighs beyond my guess that she's similar in size to my mother but I think she'd be in a favorable place on those charts.

And I wasn't totally joking on the marry me thing either. Clearly I'm young enough to be her child but I think she's a stunningly gorgeous woman and just as much so today as she ever was honestly. I tend to prefer "real" women anyway over the photoshopped airbrush anorexic celebrity look. I would guess I'm far from alone on that especially in any arena where she's performing. Her extreme talent and all that energy she has sure does add to that attractiveness. If anything I wish she didn't wear her eye shadow the way she does- with the super dark crease. Think it actually ends up aging her even on stage. But I love the way she dresses personally and somewhere I've got an interview of her rocking leggings (thinking I've seen her do that many times actually) and dang many women of all ages can't pull that look off as well as she does!

And I'm shorter than her. So I totally get what a pain weight can be when you're vertically challenged. I've always felt like I was so much heavier looking than many women I know only to hear they wear like 5 sizes larger than me because they're so tall. And I can look chunky and fit into tiny sizes. On the upside I often find that being a particularly short woman often adds to the youth factor. But then short women are often "cute" or "adorable" versus "beautiful" or "sexy". So its a blessing and curse but I think Stevie rocks it.

I totally agree with the weight thing. She looks incredible! I'm 44 years old, and only a 1/2 inch taller than Stevie and I'm much heavier. I fight that battle daily!! I have to watch every bite that I eat, and I exercise at least five days a week. Stevie inspires me, I hope I can look that young when I'm 65!

From a Vanessa Carlton interview in The Examiner:

http://www.examiner.com/article/inte...d-stevie-nicks

Outside of Stevie Nicks, which musical icon would you say has been the greatest encounter? Mentioning Stevie, when was the last time you were together? Do you simply stick to working together or do you consider yourselves friends?

Neil Young. He's wonderful and continues to make records that are great. He is a pure guy. Stevie and I last hung out around Christmas. She's a fantastic woman and very dear friend.

michelej1 04-10-2014 12:35 AM

[John McCauley talks about Stevie. Excerpt from an interview with him:]

Metro New York, April 9. 2014 by Pat Healy

http://www.metro.us/newyork/entertai...s-hold-steady/

How on earth did Stevie Nicks factor in to the whole thing? When those pictures came out a lot of people were like, “wait, what?” Not just what are these three totally different musicians doing together, but why are two of them getting married to each other and the other one is officiating said wedding!

Vanessa has been friends with Stevie for while now, she just kind of asked Stevie if she would do the thing or whatever. And she said yeah.

Are you friendly with Stevie now? Can you call her?

I’ve never tried to call her and just shoot the ****, but I would say yes, now I can definitely do that. She’s taking Vanessa and I to the Rock and Roll Half of Fame induction ceremony next week.

vivfox 05-09-2014 11:36 AM

So your wedding: Stevie Nicks did the ceremony. How did that happen?

Vanessa's been friends with Stevie a long time. We were gonna run off and get married — we didn't really want to have a wedding. It's just not both of our styles. But she said, "You know there's one person who could marry us. And we could have a little wedding. Let's ask Stevie, see if she'll do it. If she doesn't want to do it, then yeah, we'll just elope." But Stevie, she was into the idea, and she got her minister card or whatever.

[Sequencing Stevie Strikes Again]

Vanessa Carlton on her dreamy new album, CBS News

For the first time ever, Stevie Nicks approved of the track order Vanessa Carlton created for an album.

Carlton recently finished recording her fifth full-length studio release and asked her Fleetwood Mac singer pal (and recent wedding officiant) for her input.

"I sent her the album and I think she really digs it," Carlton told CBS News. "She helps with each record to figure out the order of the songs. For the first time ever, she thought that the order was correct that I gave her, so that was good."

"The mistress of song order" AKA Stevie Nicks...

Stevie also sequenced Vanessa's "Heroes And Thieves" & "Rabbit's On The Run" albums...

Stevie probably approved of the latest album sequencing because she couldn't be bothered listening to it. She's most likely too concerned with her own...

It interesting to note that Vanessa's new album went into Mastering 2 months ago, but it won't be available until sometime next year. Meanwhile, we're supposed to get a new Stevie album 5-6 months from now, yet it hasn't even gotten to the Mastering stage yet. Seems to confirm my suspicions of the release date being overly optimistic.

On another note, I had no idea Vanessa was only 2 years older than me. I assumed she was about 10 years older than me.

From the article:

"Recorded in both Nashville, Tenn., and England, the upcoming set, called "Liberman," comes on the heels of 2011's "Rabbits on the Run." It was originally expected out this year, but Carlton had to delay its release to 2015. Though she can't say why at the moment, she promises it's a good thing."

It doesn't sound like the mastering process had any bearing on the time-table for the album's release. Seems like Vanessa personally chose to delay it.

Maybe she's gonna pull a Beyonce and make a video for the whole album.

Books and albums are often delayed months - even a year or more - just to time the release for a date where the competition is slim or the promotion is more suitable. Many video games are held back until fall/winter, because the kids are back in school and not outside playing. Anne Rice's next book is out in October, though it's been ready for months. *And* she's already finished writing yet another book, with no release date in sight.
