This Christmas, BBC Radio 2 will be welcoming some of the biggest names in showbiz to the airwaves to deliver a big, sparkly helping of festive frivolity to homes across the land.

Get the full schedule of who's on Radio 2 between December 21st to January 4th at the BBC

Johnnie Walker Meets…
Fleetwood Mac, Wednesday 1 January, 5pm-7pm

Late last year, a packed audience at London’s O2 Arena went wild as Fleetwood Mac welcomed Christine McVie on stage - completing the line-up of the band that produced one of the biggest selling albums of all times - Rumours.

The success of Fleetwood Mac is without precedent considering the varying line-ups. However, the constants include their remarkable drummer and 'big daddy' of the group Mick Fleetwood and the 'quiet man', bassist John McVie. Which is fortunate, as that’s how the band’s name came about, combining their two surnames way back in 1967.

Across two hours, Johnnie Walker speaks to Mick Fleetwood, Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks and features a rare interview with pianist and singer-songwriter Christine McVie. Listeners will get to hear how they all had their part to play in the jigsaw puzzle of Fleetwood Mac’s enduring success. Despite the sometimes hedonistic lifestyle, divorces and ego clashes, they couldn’t have produced decades of hit records without love and friendship.

Tune in New Years Day to BBC Radio 2. This program will be streamed on-line

[This just might be the interview that Johnnie Walker had with Christine back in the early fall in London that he never aired on his program]

Finally some news on that interview.

I had forgotten all about that interview. For weeks after it was recorded I kept checking the radio 2 website, then I gave up. It was so great to hear her on "tracks of my years" but it was so short. I'm hoping this is a bit longer.

I did exactly the same thing. I even e-mailed Johnny Walker about it, but never heard anything from him.

Thanks for posting, applebucked. :)

Here's Christine's segment from Johnnie Walker's show today. "Say You Love Me" played afterward, but I faded it out.

I'm uploading Stevie's segment now and I'll post it when it's finished.

Johnny Stew 12-15-2013 02:24 PM

Here's Stevie's segment. I faded "Rhiannon" after the interview.

I'm leaving the house for a few hours, so I'll have to capture and upload Mick's segment later.

love it, thanks!!

do you by any chance have Lindsey's segment too?

edit: disregard, no LB segment in this preview, apparently.

Mick's voice sounds deeper or huskier than usual in this clip. He is at the 1 hour and forty minute mark. Michele

You're both very welcome. :)
I'll try to get the full two-hour show when it airs on New Year's Day too, if no one else does.

Here's Mick's segment. Sorry about the wait!

applebucked 12-15-2013 07:01 PM

Thanks for posting the segments, Johnny Stew. Was gonna do them myself when I downloaded the full thing but you saved me the trouble.

SpyNote 12-15-2013 07:48 PM

Thanks, Brian!

They can be downloaded here too. This file compiles the interviews.

michelej1 12-16-2013 07:07 PM

When Mick talks about Kiln House then it makes me think that the setting of the Little Lies video was not that strange or incongruent for FM at all, if you go back to their early years.

Just a reminder about the Fleetwood Mac New Years Day special on Radio 2. Its on in 90 mins! :woohoo: :]

Johnny Stew 01-01-2014 01:35 PM

I hope everyone is listening -- this program has been terrific so far. A lot of previously-treaded ground, of course, but then so many other great little tidbits and things that I don't think we've ever heard before (like the inspirations behind "Warm Ways" and "Over My Head," for example).

Best of all, is hearing them (including Lindsey) speak -- albeit non-noncommittally -- about the possibilities that are now opened up by Christine having dipped her toes in the water again.

MoonSister75 01-01-2014 01:40 PM

Its a great interview. I haven't been able to listen to all of it, but I did just hear Lindsey talking positively about Christine appearing on stage, and how its very intriguing that she wanted to do it. He sounded happily curious about the future. :)

Ulpian 01-01-2014 01:42 PM

Christine has her dates wrong! She confused The Dance with TITN, I think! Also, that stuff about the Clinton inaugural leading direct to The Dance popped up a little again...

Ah good - someone else is listening to. I wasn't sure if people outside the UK could listen to it until it was available on iplayer after it finishes.

jbrownsjr 01-01-2014 02:04 PM

It's not available yet for me.. :(

I'm patient tho.

brickney723 01-01-2014 02:06 PM

Wow. I was really shocked that Lindsey was her inspiration for "Over My Head." That was released in Sept. 1975. That combined with Lindsey's previous statements regarding Christine's influence on Stevie being one of the important catalysts for their break up… it does make me wonder.

Johnny Stew 01-01-2014 02:24 PM

I recorded it, but there were a few glitches along the way. So, if no one posts it in the meantime, I'll try again when the show is available on iPlayer.

louielouie2000 01-01-2014 02:28 PM

It's so odd that Lindsey refused to be pinned down regarding the future of Fleetwood Mac, yet he told a fan at one of the Vegas concerts (on video) that the Mac will be out on the road this summer.

I'm guessing the interview was done earlier.

I recorded as it was being aired as well. No glitches or jumps, so far as I know. Am uploading now but it's a teensy bit slow to do cos I have crap internet. Shouldn't be more than 45 minutes or so til it's done, hopefully.

jbrownsjr 01-01-2014 03:03 PM

It's available now. :blob1:

I listened to this today and really enjoyed it:)

Johnnie Walker is a massive fan of the band, I even remember him interviewing Lindsey when he was promoting Out Of The Cradle.

Also had no idea 'Over My Head' was written about Lindsey! In fact Christine seems to have had something of a crush on him, have never heard her refer to him as 'cute' before;). I always thought it was a poor choice as a single (Chris seems to think so too) but will listen with a bit more interest next time I hear it!

Hope our friends overseas all get to hear it.

Seriously, thanks for the thanks, folks. Appreciate it. Nice to have something new to listen too and PLENTY of Chris there for those starved of hearing her voice in interviews, ha.

Just this year, I heard a snippet of an old interview of hers where she was talking about OMH and said it was about a person who would go unnamed. I wondered then who she was talking about.

It's amazing the new stuff we are learning about them. I feel like we've gotten a new treasure chest of information.

I look forward to listening. Haven't had a chance yet.

In the old interview Christine said the inspiration for OMH would remain nameless, because he's well known.

She said it was one of the least developed songs and she got an idea to add a ____ (?) to it or a box continental and it worked and then they started adding more to it and it became their first single.

Michele
