If you had to choose... Cher or Bette

Cher and Bette have had very similar careers. Which one is your favorite?

No doubt about it..............BETTE MIDLER......she's more talented, hands down. She can tell bawdy jokes, make you laugh.............then make you burst into tears with touching songs.

Neither diva is known for her songwriting, they are both interpreters of other people's songs. Thus, they are even keel on that level. BUT, Bette is just more dynamic.

You should vote then.

Bette is the superior singer, no doubt. Cher has always been open about being a "good, not great, singer". However, something about Cher's voice just draws me in, and her last 3 albums have been absolutely perfect pop confections. I have to go with her. I've been listening to Closer to the Truth pretty solidly for the past couple of weeks.

Bette. Cause my dad loved her. I grew up with her albums and movies. I think she's fantastic. Cher has never done anything for me. Just never saw the appeal at all.

Oh my dad did not influence me. He loves Cher too just as much.

Eventhough I started this thread, I'm still debating this. I haven't voted yet. Cher is the better actress, however, I think Bette is more original, and a better live performer. Both of their voices are instantly recognizeable.Hmmm...

Kind of surprised Bette is winning so handily.

I think it is because Cher is the more annoying of the two. Also going by her recent appearances on the Voice as a guest coach she looks and sounds mummified.

Cher for me, don't even have to think.

I don't really either of those two women(:sorry:), but if I HAD to pick, I'd go with Bette.

Macfanforever 10-30-2013 10:10 PM

Both are OK . I enjoy their music and their movies equally .

My mom loved Bette and my sister loved Cher.

They both seen them in concert several times.I never seen them live in concert .

What I heard from my mom and sister .Cher and Bette puts on a hell of a show.

So true- people say she's not a great singer, but there is definitely a type of charisma that comes across only in one's singing voice that often has a greater impact on listeners than talent alone. I voted for Cher, hands down.

had to vote for Cher! she is amazing and i cant wait to see her in concert next year. it will be my first time. i just love that she says whatever is on her mind as well. i cant really stand bette at all. i didnt like that beaches movie she was in and never really watched her in anything else since then.

Cher, easily. I like Bette, but she hasn't got a song that's as brilliant on as many levels as Believe is. Gotta have respect for Cher for resurrecting her career with such a brilliant pop tune.

May I just stick pins in my eardrums instead?

bluefox4000 10-31-2013 01:33 PM

Her voice was morphed in "Believe". It sounded great and sound cool.

I have the voice morphing plugin on my audio editing software.

Cher caught up some!

TrueFaith77 11-03-2013 09:03 PM

I have pockets of affection for both of them. However, Cher's performance in the great Robert Altman film Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean puts her over the top.

She gave a great performance in that. So did Karen Black and always love Kathy Bates. God, almost her first movie and it was about a sex change. How prophetic.

And don't forget: Sandy Dennis!!

About its prophetic nature: wow, i never thought of that!

KarmaContestant 11-04-2013 01:04 PM

I grew up with Bette and Cher as living icons. I've seen Bette live, once, and I think she is the better singer. I like movies that they've both been in.....but think that maybe Cher is the better actress.

I can't pick.
