Well the poll is already set for one option, but feel free to tell us everything. Actually I wasn´t thinking in half parts, but the experience of listening a whole side of a vynil álbum. You see, on those old days sometimes we used to play one side and didn't turn it to listen the other. And there are some record players where you piled some records to play successively.

But anyway you can tell us your 2 favorites or what you think of all sides.

KenB 06-11-2013 10:50 PM

Wow! Toughest poll yet. Every side has at least two or three amazing songs. (Yes, even side 3, which contains my favorite song on the album (although I think I'm the only one), "That's Enough for Me.") It's pretty remarkable how well-distributed the songs were on Tusk.

I almost voted for 1 but ultimately went for 4. I do predict side 1 will win the poll hands down, simply because of "Sara."

 unfortunately i'm old enough to remember that. i'm one of those people who owned some really shi**y record players that would ruin records easily (i know everyone seems to romanticize it these days ;) )... ah the crackling noises, the dust, skipping... and even then i wouldn't listen to the whole side but would skip songs i didn't like the same as now (just in case someone never owned vinyl, you can see on the records where the song ends, you just had to count, there were no little numbers showing you which song you are on :p). i loved the idea of those players where you could pile the records even though i never had one... and i loved even more CD players playing 6 CDs came along and you could put them on random. :)

Sara and SMAP are weighing it heavily against the side 1 for me. even though i love The Ledge and Think About Me. i can take or leave Over and Over, depending on my mood, although i love the start of it.

We had one of those and during parties you could put 4 albums on there and have continuous music. Back then, it never occurred to me that I was damaging the record, rubbing them against each other and dropping them like that. I was clueless.

I was on a website with a beautiful turntable console and it said email for pricing, so I did and they sent me an email saying, $18,000. :o Yeah, no wonder they didn't want to admit it publicly.

It's funny, but when I LOOK at the list like that, it makes me think about the album differently than when I just listen to it or consider the songs.

Anyway, that list shows me that there are about two stellar songs on each of the 4 sides.

Wow, it was the hardest!! I go with Side 1. I don't like Storms ( :sorry: ), but the rest of the songs in Side 2 are really good.
Regards!

On Ice 06-12-2013 07:40 AM

Another hard poll! Tusk does have a great overall song distribution with the exception of the long pause between Christine songs and then to have two in a row on side 3(?). It was a toss up between side 1 and 2. Two of Christine's best ever tracks are on side 1, opening with Over and Over was a great move showing that Tusk wasn't going to be like Rumours. To be treated to her crystal clear voice right off the bat, was wonderful. Thought of side 2, but with no Christine, it's not representative enough of the three. So side 1 it is, even with only 1 Stevie song, but ending with Sara, that's ok by me.

I so wore out the vinyl version of this record within about a year of buying it, but have kept it as a relic. It was really cool how different shades of the cover were available, wish I'd bought a few.

KenB 06-12-2013 08:03 AM

I agree that seeing the track list broken into 4 sides has made me think about the album differently. In fact, I decided to try to list the tracks in order from favorite to least favorite. Here's what I came up with. God, I love this album.

1. "That's Enough for Me"
2. "Storms"
3. "Walk a Thin Line"
4. "Never Forget"
5. "Tusk"
6. "Think About Me"
7. "Over & Over"
8. "The Ledge"
9. "Brown Eyes"
10. "Angel"
11. "What Makes You Think You're the One"
12. "Sara"
13. "Save Me a Place"
14. "Not That Funny"
15. "Never Make Me Cry"
16. "Honey Hi"
17. "That's All for Everyone"
18. "Beautiful Child"
19. "I Know I'm Not Wrong"
20. "Sisters of the Moon"

Artemis 06-12-2013 08:08 AM

Side 4 has Beautiful Child, the other three sides do not. Therefore, side 4 wins.

It helps that it has Tusk too, cause side 2 has Storms AND Sisters...

A better sequence would have switched the positions of "Brown Eyes" and "That's All for Everyone." Good flow without the long gap between Christine songs.

bluefox4000 06-12-2013 08:56 AM

Sorry picking 2 sides.......1 and 2 for me.

3 and 4 are brought down by some weaker tunes.

Mick

chiliD 06-12-2013 10:34 AM

Well, let's see....side 2 is definitely out since there aren't any Christine songs on it. (how did THAT happen?)

Side 1 is out due to my just HATING "Over & Over" as the opening track. Love the song, just not its place on the album.

So, it's a toss up between 3 & 4. I went with 3, but the more I think about it, I probably should've gone for 4.

It's tough choosing sides on this one since I made my own tracking order of the album (as if it were a single album) on my iPod (breaking THAT down to "sides"):

Side 1:
Honey Hi
What Makes You Think You're The One
Think About Me
Sara
Over & Over

Side 2:
Angel
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Brown Eyes
Sisters Of The Moon
Tusk
Never Forget

louielouie2000 06-12-2013 10:48 AM

It was really tough chosing between sides 1 & 4, but I went for 1. In the end, I think Honey Hi made the decision for me. Cute, sweet little song... but it's also fluff.

KarmaContestant 06-12-2013 11:52 AM

Side 3....

I actually listen to Tusk on vinyl often, and side three is definitely my go-to side when I need a little Tusk experience.

Macfanforever 06-12-2013 12:32 PM

I love the whole album.I know I warned out my "Sara" 45rpm until it sounds like static.

No side picks here.I play the whole darn album.

Great album loaded with artwork too.

Blueletter18 06-12-2013 12:49 PM

I chose 1, but 3 was very close! Angel and Sara are a couple of my absolute favorites on the album.

Stormwind 06-12-2013 12:49 PM

It was a tough battle beetween side 1 and side 4, but I went for the latter

KarmaContestant 06-12-2013 12:58 PM

I am absolutely sure that it's a total coincidence (:p), but it's sort of funny that no matter the album, the side that wins is the one with the big Stevie hit.

Rhiannon
Dreams
Sara
Gypsy
Seven Wonders

tilthefirefades 06-13-2013 02:13 AM

With more and more years of hearing it, Honey Hi is becoming one of the only FM songs I can listen to daily and never ever tire of it. Also, Beautiful Child, my personal pick for Stevie's greatest FM song ever.

So yeah, side 4 all day.

I agree, I love Honey Hi and followed by Beautiful Child we get to hear the three harmonize so perfectly it's just beyond compare. It never grows old.

Neal 06-14-2013 03:26 PM

It's a close tie between sides 1 and 2 for me; both have their duds ("The Ledge" and "Not That Funny"), but the the other four tracks are perfect.

shackin'up 06-14-2013 05:02 PM

Sorry. No vote. For me the album is an entity. No fave sides, just an organic holistic piece of art. To me it has absolutely NOTHING to do with three soloalbums in one. Au contraire.

But the experience of playing vinyl records could make people to play just one side, not necessarily the whole álbum, so then some people could like to play more one side.

Of course that was lost when CDs arrived. And Cassette Player Auto Reverse !!!

MacShadowsBall 06-14-2013 10:07 PM

Tough choice for me as there are so many Lindsey songs everywhere! :sorry:

I went with Side 1 although Side 2 is runner-up. Side 1 has one of my favorite Lindsey songs, Save Me a Place.

Oh yes, I understand why you ask it and I can imagine easily how domeinen has a fave Side. But, because I did not understand Tusk immediately in 1979, it was intrigued me in an almost obsessive way, I was 14, I always played it back to back, in search of the core of the record. I never play that album in fragments deliberately. Always back to back, to this day.

Dreamz19 06-15-2013 04:56 AM

I love the entire album except for "That's Enough for Me," but Side 2 and 4 would be my choices. I voted for side 2.

Dex 06-15-2013 05:56 AM

I'm insane, I guess, because I went with side 3. Angel is my least favourite Stevie song on Tusk, but I enjoy it along with every other track on that side. Breaking it down side-by-side really highlights how many songs on the album don't particularly excite me. When you listen to the album in full, the weaker songs seem to go by relatively quickly so I don't really notice them, but as michele pointed out, this changes the way I see things. Side 3, to me, is the only one completely sans-clunker. So it gets my vote.

MacShadowsBall 06-15-2013 04:02 PM

I don't know if anybody has noticed this or not, but Side 1 has won on like every poll here so far. I find that so intriguing.

WildHearted 06-15-2013 05:03 PM

1 and 2 for me.

Love all of Lindsey's songs and Stevie's songs on those two sides, and Think About Me is one of my favorite Chris songs, period.

Dragonfly 06-15-2013 05:11 PM

Toughest poll ever, EVER!

I went with side 3 even though Never Make Me Cry is the worst song on the album IMO. Brown Eyes is my favourite Chris song and love IKINW and Angel. Side 4 was neck and neck with it though.

Side 1 is probably my least favourite.

aleuzzi 06-15-2013 11:56 PM

Side 4. You need that title track! There's nothing else like it in all of Rock.

And the rest of the songs on 4 are lovely--so lovely that the title track stands in stark relief to them.

Side 3 is the runner up.

Most rock bands in the album era front-loaded their records. They put their most marketable feet forward, presented songs that the widest group of people would presumably like. I can't think of a rock band who didn't (though I'm sure there are all kinds of exceptions to this.)

That said, I voted side 2 on all the polls except Tusk (side 4).
