Side 1 or Side 2? Tango in the Night

Without a doubt side one, every song is great and flows well. With the two Stevie misfires on side two, even Little Lies can't save it. :sorry:

Side 1, only clunker is Mystified.
Side 2... oh dear. Not even Little Lies and Isn't it Midnight can save that trainwreck.

I just have probs with Caroline and TITN back-to-back. Sorta.

And I think Family Man, Isn't It Midnight are tops.

Side 1. Although. I do enjoy side 2. I LOVE you and I, part 2 and When I see You Again. Only clunkers are Welcome to the Room and Family Man.

Still side 1 it is.

Flip You And I to side one, and move Everywhere to side two - and THEN side 1 is perfect.

Otherwise, despite being my favorite FM album, neither side gets my vote because I love them both.

My 2 fave songs from this one are on side 2. BUT, side 2 also has "Welcome To The Room...Sara" which trumps BOTH songs.

Side 1 is the winner.

I had a hard time choosing for the same reasons. Tango is one of my favorite Mac albums.

Swap "Isn't It Midnight" and "Mystified", and Side 1 is perfect.

My homemade copy of Tango (including B-sides) flows so much better than the official release... :cool:

"Little Lies" & "Isn't It Midnight" (and add to that I like everything about "Family Man" except the lyrics) :shrug:

The title track & Mystified pushed Side 1 into the winning category for me. That's not a typo- I really do adore Mystified, and I think Tango In The Night is one of Lindsey's most underrated tunes. :)

I gotta go with Side 2 due to my fav's from Christine - Little Lies and Isn't It Midnight and Welcome to the Room...Sara which I love, too!

Even though Side 1 has Seven Wonders (another Stevie fav), it has too many Lindsey songs for me as his are always my least fav. :cool:

I'd go with side one as I don't like You and I Part 2, that's the only song on the whole album I don't like.

Nothing wrong with that. I love it too, even if the word is a little overused. Mystifi -iiiiiiied. mystified.

A tough one! The two duds--Welcome to the Room and When I See You Again--weigh down side 2, but Tango just isn't Tango without Little Lies and Isn't it Midnight. You and I Part II is catchy (though I like Christine's vocal on the alternate take more) and the flamenco solo on Family Man is damn good.

So, side 2.

I really can never tell how I feel about "Isn't It Midnight", I get the appeal but it I don't connect. Although I do like the chorus (well, Lindsey kinda creeps me out) and I think it shows how versatile Christine is. But yeah, side 2 only has "Little Lies" for me, whereas side 1, even when I don't love the songs, I either like them or feel like I could with different production.

To me it is a tie - I love everything on both sides except Caroline and TITN on side 1, and Family Man and You and I on Side 2. Lindsey often irritates as a songwriter and performer, and should have stuck to being a briloiiant producer on this project.

Will proudly go on record as a great lover of Mystified and WISYA.

I love 'Tango In The Night', so both sides are good ones. Side 1 is stronger due to the obvious dip in quality with Stevie's Side 2 contributions, but 'Isn't It Midnight' and 'Little Lies' are two of Christine's strongest 1980s tunes and I'm in that small group of people who enjoys both 'Family Man' and 'You And I Part II'!

I find this kind of surprising given your recent confession on disliking Christine's slow(er) Tusk songs. I'll still take the love for Mystified, though! :D

I'm totally going to sound like an old fart (even though I'm only 44) but kids today don't have any idea how beautiful records were set up back in the day. You had these two totally separate pieces of work and if sequenced right they could really make you feel like you are watching Act I and Act II of a play or movie. Or throw in Acts III and IV if it's a double album. These days a CD can be nice for one long story, but the flipping of the LP sides gave it a bit of drama that we're missing today.

Tango had a great feel to it because it really plays out like a movie. Side one comes out swinging with Big Love. Action over the opening credits with no time to splash names over a black screen. Then it settles down and lets you get to know the characters in Seven Wonders and Everywhere. The tension builds with Caroline and the title track, then Mystified comes at the perfect time to give you a break. It adds this softness, like a well placed love scene. Then, you go get a snack or a potty break and come back and there's Little Lies, easing you back with that nice soft intro then hitting you hard with a driving yet mellow melody. Family Man sets up the tension again only to have it level off with the raw confessional of Welcome to the Room... Sara. Isn't it Midnight is like the action packed car chase that makes the last quarter of the movie so exciting. Then When I See You Again gives you a bittersweet breakdown, as beautiful and clumsy as love really is. And then You and I, Part II is the uplifting credit sequence.

Hey I'm only 28.....and I love the sides to records.....Do tons of listening with LP'S....i love 'em.

I like Never Forget just fine. What I said about her Tusk songs is that I don't like the slow, plodding ones. I also love her two closing songs on Mirage which are also slow.
