Will Christine be on the EP?

Just conjecture.

Musicman408 04-21-2013 03:59 PM

Would be super sexy, but probably not. We'll probably know, "any day now".

If she was I'd find it odd as they didn't record anything with her voice in mind I don't think. I just don't see where they'd have planned to add her in. I'd love it, but I think the extent of her involvement will be maybe just a live show on the tour.

louielouie2000 04-21-2013 04:02 PM

There's no doubt in my mind we will not hear Christine on this EP, or the possible future full length album.

I say definitely not for the EP, but I don't think we can rule out her contributing in some capacity to a hypothetical album even if unlikely.

Erin 04-21-2013 04:12 PM

I asked Mick about Christine recording with them at the Chicago M&G. His answer was "Well, she'd have to tour." In that, she wouldn't tour, so no she won't be recording with them. She won't be on the EP.

I realise that kinda answers the question, but would that even apply if she just did backing vocals? I was assuming that's what people meant - a la BTLH and SYHA.

shackin'up 04-21-2013 04:14 PM

I'm not voting on a poll about an EP that the initiator of the poll constantly descibes as something that is never going to be. :D

She recorded for the Time album and didn't tour, didn't she? Why must she tour?

I still don't understand this mentality. I didn't understand it during SYW, and I don't understand it now. People will still show up to the tour, even if she doesn't. Is that really his worry? I mean, she's not here now and people are buying tickets! If I were Mick, I would rather have her on the record if it would mean boosting sales, even just slightly.

I wonder if this is a line the whole band (minus Stevie) is drawing in the sand, or if it's only Mick being stubborn?

In regards to the EP, while I don't think she's on it, I will be ecstatic if proven wrong.

Erin 04-21-2013 04:38 PM

I don't understand the mentality either. It's not like they're going to have a radio hit written by her that everyone would be expecting to hear on tour. If she's willing to do it, why not? I'm not sure if this is Mick's actual opinion or if it's the band's standard response at this point.

I don't see the point of her doing backing tracks like on BTLH or SYHA, I could barely hear her on the SYW versions of these tracks. If she's going to participate on a record she should be allowed to fully participate.

Agreed, though I can def hear her on the SYW tracks, and I love listening to them.

I say no to the EP, maybe to the album but definitely as a background musician on an album.

Agree about the EP, but if there is a future full length album, there's no doubt in my mind that we will hear Christine on it.

And even if there's a 1% chance of that occurring, I still fail to see how this would decimate a Fleetwood Mac tour. It would literally be one song. Mac fans don't show up just to hear one song.

Moreover, if she did write a hit, I think they could probably talk her round to doing a handful of strategically placed shows. I think they're underestimating the power of Chris having a positive recording experience with the band. The more comfortable she is, the more they'll likely get out of her.

Talk nice to her, Mick, talk nice. . .anything is possible.

When I spoke to Ken at his book signing, he mentioned that Lindsey had a problem with using her ITM demos to roll into a new FM album, back in 2004. He said that Mick wanted to do it but got resistance about it and also stated that nobody had the balls to stand up to LB. It was a weird comment after he had just mentioned to me how fond LB is of Christine.

Wonder what really went down in 1998 and the Dance tour in 1997.

Why on earth would he have a problem with that when he & Stevie do exactly the same thing? Hell, Lindsey essentially put fully finished & unchanged Gift Of Screws songs on Say You Will.

It makes no sense to me whatsoever.

bethelblues 04-21-2013 07:08 PM

I honestly think that members of Fleetwood Mac sometimes do not want to stand up to Lindsey for good reason: he becomes unbearable to deal with and he's very hard to argue against. Lindsey has a reputation of being difficult and for liking things a certain way: his way. While it is inarguable that everyone in the Mac has an ego, Lindsey was always the primary creative force and main producer in the band of their own material. I'm sure like we do when we have reached a certain point the band just wanted to go with the flow, as to avoid another almost-certain fight. I'm sure John has felt this way and didn't want to run into issues, hence why he often keeps his mouth shut. Stevie certainly has wanted to avoid fights and has done so by staying away from the band, spending much of her recent years on solo projects and tours where she has no issues. Of course, there is the one famous instance from the Destiny Rules documentary when she told Lindsey off regarding the lyrics to Thrown Down. But overall I don't think she spoke up as much as she wanted to, hence why it's been widely reported she was unhappy with the final result of Say You Will (and probably the fact that they went through with Lindsey's plan to do a double album, a la Tusk) and was miserable on the tour.

As much as the politics behind Fleetwood Mac seem to be very public, I think there is much that has gone on behind the scenes that rules into their decision-making, their setlists, why some members want to record and why others don't. And most importantly, why Christine had had enough and quit the band, which probably has much more background than we know and is never discussed as it might further fracture the band.

Whoa. Firstly, thanks for sharing. Secondly, what in the actual hell? LOL Did Ken say what Lindsey's problem with it was? Did it have something to do with the whole "if you're not going to tour, no way!" bit?

There's no question that I loved ITM, but I would have loved it a hundred times more if it had presented within the context of the band.

I'm so confused. And I think that Stevie HAS stood up to Lindsey on this point. She has stated how she feels about Christine not being there, she's said it in interviews with Lindsey in the room. Is this another instance where she's been outvoted, and hence, her growing frustration with the present band dynamic?

Or is it the case that back in 2003/4 she also didn't want Chris on the album for whatever reason?

At this point, I have more questions than answers!

And I agree that there are things that happened that we know nothing about. But whatever they are, they apparently were not good. Not good at all.

Did Ken drop any other little tidbits on this topic? (Or any other topic for that matter.)

elle 04-21-2013 07:37 PM

i think that anybody who thinks Stevie Nicks in this day and age is outvoted in Fleetwood Mac is delusional.

just my 0.02, take it or keep running with the speculations, whatever makes you happy.

I will believe it when I see it. Lindsey said it's going to be released next week.At the Mohegan Sun Show last night. Will believe it when I see it.Unless this EP that is suppose to come out is probably a test to see if they should do a new album or not.who knows glad to see them back together and on the road awesome show last night every song was amazing.

TrueFaith77 04-21-2013 07:53 PM

It was so quick because there were so many people waiting in line. But Ken seemed frustrated because he really wanted to take the tracks he produced with Christine and use them in FM context. I don't really have anymore than I posted.

I didn't know that Stevie stated things about Christine during duo interviews with LB. Would love to read those.

I don't consider him a reliable source of info in any way anymore. He seems bitter, and, as you stated, often contrary. While I enjoyed parts of his book, I just don't trust his motives.

 Stevie has no problem standing up to Lindsey. That line of reasoning gets old. Yes, he IS the most influential, and dominant member of the band, but they're all big boys and girls and are perfectly capable, and often willing, to stand up to him. If they're not, then that's their problem.

The one I had particularly in mind was this:

I don't understand why Lindsey would be the one holding up the EP. He is the one that went and recorded new material hoping to turn it into a Fleetwood Mac album. Stevie shot that idea down, so it stands to reason that she would be the hold up behind the EP as well. Lindsey has shown he wants to put out new Fleetwood Mac material, I haven't seen anything from Stevie that shows she does as well. And with how productive Lindsey has been over the last few years, I don't see him being the holdout.

THIS I do agree with. I was speaking just in general, over the years. But YES, he has made it very clear he wants this album (or EP) out. So blaming Lindsey for it not yet being released makes no sense at all.

That's assuming that it's someone in the band that's keeping it from being released. And considering they announce its imminent release at every show I'm inclined to believe it's not.

Somehow I don't think it's Mick. I think it's either Stevie or Lindsey as those are the two with the real power these days to green-light or hold up a project. Did LB vote down using ITM material coz Ken produced it, and he, Lindsey, wouldn't get to put his mark on it and he sees himself as the "visionary" for FM?

Stevie was not thrilled with the final production of her songs on SYW. In the documentary Thrown Down is a clear example. She clearly ends up going along to get along with the production. When it came to the *business* decision of single vs double album, Lindsey lost out but that's because there are outside forces, i.e., business managers, for all the other members who have no qualms about arguing their position forcefully. I think Lindsey doesn't have the *business* sway in the band (I think these days tho that Stevie does) but Lindsey still seems to have the *creative* sway. I think Stevie is no longer happy allowing Lindsey's vision for the music to override hers , and I think the SYW experience was the last straw on that. Added to that her experience working with Dave Stewart and her repeated comments about how easy it was to work with him because he didn't take creative disagreements personally and didn't invest his ego in them and was willing to bend or change and you get a clear sense of why she doesn't want to endure another recording experience with Lindsey unless there's a designated mediator/final voice in the form of an outside producer.

I think Christine has clear ideas for her music and wouldn't just hand it over to LB. Maybe she got tired of the same issues Stevie has in that regard.

I think Mick and John are missing the ballast Christine provided, personally and musically.

LB said in november that he wanted FM to release new songs before the start of the tour. that didn't happen.

since the tour started, the only advertising they had about new EP is LB saying at the shows that it will be coming out "soon". that has been transmitted by various musical outlets, but there is no proper PR campaign, and EP is not listed anywhere to pre-order.

even LB's low key solo stuff was handled with much more fanfare than this.

at Mohegan show yesterday, LB said it will be coming out in a week. he's been the only one saying that publicly, and from what i heard Mick has said it at Mohegan m&g too.

so the 2 of them certainly are not the ones holding it up, since especially LB is the one who ends up looking stupid for saying unsubstantiated stuff if EP does not come out.

i'll be surprised (and unbelievably pleased) if EP does indeed come out on April 30. :p

of course, if that does happen everybody will probably be dumping on LB for pushing the EP out when their PR and management were so obviously not ready.

Bingo. That may be a far more convincing reason why Christine left Fleetwood Mac, in a combination with some of the answers we've gotten over the years.

yes, pretty sure that's the case. and those business managers are stuck in the stone age, which is unfortunate for both FM and us.

i don't see Christine ever having problem with telling Lindsey exactly what she thinks and what she wants regarding her music.

i think Christine and Lindsey were very much equal footing collaborators, complementing each other in their differing strengths and weaknesses, as they both said and acknowledged many times.
