Favorite Rumours era album, excluding Stevie's songs/material

In light of the Mirage vs Tango discussion, I thought this thread might be interesting. Really simple pick your favorite album - '75 Mac, Rumours, Tusk, Mirage or Tango - excluding Stevie's songs, just analyzing the songs from Lindsey and Christine.

Does the absence of Stevie's songs change your opinion's of the albums?

Same. Well Rumours is ahead for me because there's two songs on the white album and maybe five on Tusk that I often skip, but taking out Stevie's songs affects nothing.

cantgoback 03-02-2013 10:45 PM

Call it chiché but i went with Rumours... it's just such a timeless album, not a single bad track on it.

MacShadowsBall 03-02-2013 10:55 PM

'75 FM - still love it the same as I'm not a fan of Stevie songs on this album. Love Christine/Lindsey's songs

Rumours - takes a big hit with the absence of Dreams/GDW, but stands tall with Don't Stop, YMLF, The Chain, and GYOW

Tusk - takes major, major hit as Stevie's songs are my favorite on this album. Never cared for Christine/Lindsey songs here, except for SMAP and Over and Over

Mirage - the masterpiece of Gypsy gone, but Christine's Mirage songs are some of my favorites. Lindsey's is kinda in the middle.

Tango - Stevie's input was fairly limited, so not much difference here. Love Isn't it Midnight and Little Lies

...Toss up between Rumours and Tango.

I'msoAfraid95 03-03-2013 12:31 AM

Tusk because of Lindsey's songs.

SteveMacD 03-03-2013 01:17 AM

The answer's always "Tusk" for me.

jwd 03-03-2013 01:48 AM

Absolutely! Minus Stevie's contributions...TITN! I always thought
it was the pinnacle of "McBuck" of any FM album by a 'Landslide' :o

gypsy-sara 03-03-2013 03:39 AM

A tough decission!

For me it was a tie between "Rumours" and "Tango In The Night", because they are just perfect and they stay this way even without Stevie's songs.
I have chosen "Rumours" without being able to explain why - maybe tomorrow my decision would be "Tango In The Night"...

I love them both.

Tusk is my favorite FM album (closely followed by SYW which is not on the list here).

Tusk gets even better for me without Sara, song that i absolutely cannot stand. (although Tusk also has some of the rare SN songs that i actually love - SOTM, Angel, and like BC, plus Storms is ok too).

Lindsey's Tusk songs = treasure trove, they better include at least one and hopefully a couple of them in this year's setlist!

So tough and subjective....Tusk Vs. TITN (although mirage is still pretty solid)

The Ledge vs TITN
WMYTYTO vs Family Man
NTF/TEFM vs You and I
IKINW vs Caroline
Tuskvs Big Love

Over & Over vs Everywhere
Think About Me vs Little Lies
Brown Eyes vs Isn't It Midnight
Honey Hi/NMMC vs Mystified
Never Forget vs Ricky

I guess Tusk wins even w/o the inclusion of some Of LB's songs. This is very subjective considering I chose which songs to pit against each other. It was easier to weigh in on which songs I liked better out of the stand out tracks on Tusk.

An even better comparison would be Tusk vs SYW. I think Tusk would win hands down.

I haven't seen it in the charts yet. It's not on this weeks, but I'll check the mid week charts on Wednesday to see if it makes an appearance

No votes yet for '75 Mac or Mirage.

My final vote goes to Rumours.

Mine is definitely different- with Stevie's songs, it would be Rumours, but without her songs, it's Tango.

WatchChain 03-04-2013 10:10 PM

RUMOURS

Oh Daddy, Never Going Back Again, Songbird, Second Hand News, You Make Loving Fun, Go Your Own Way are timeless classics.

Thanks, michele.

Seems that Rumours and Tusk are still the top albums, regardless of Stevie's songs.

jmn3 03-05-2013 03:22 PM

Rumours still, by far....even if you cut out Stevie's songs. It's overplayed, the band relies on it way too much, but it is still a fantastic album.

moon 03-05-2013 04:34 PM

Without Stevie's songs? So...TUSK! I can't imagine the White Album, Rumours and Mirage without her voice, backing vocals and her material. But Tusk has great songs of Chris and Lindsey. Only to mention Tusk, Over & Over, Brown Eyes, Not That Funny, WATL, SMAP, WMYTYTO, is enough. A shame for Sara and Sisters of the Moon, of course...
We know that, in Tango in the Night, the "fight" is only between Chris and Lindsey songs, even with or without the songs of Stevie. And believe me that I love Seven Wonders and WTTR...S, but Big Love, Everywhere, Isn't it midnight, and of course TITN are stronger...
Regards!

Hawkeye 03-05-2013 05:24 PM

Although tango is the obvious choice, it being stevies weakest batch of songs. But i got to go with tusk because what were left with is still 15 great songs. If you take out her mirage songs it's an unlistenable album, and rumours would be so dull without Stevie's songs.

So while tango would lose so much less having no Stevie, I'd still take Chris and Lindsey's tusk songs over their tango songs.

did you guys add your votes in that Everywhere thread that now holds the poll part of this thread hostage?

Apparently one can add a poll to a preexisting thread, so that's what I just did.

Please vote again!

Thanks!!

I reconsidered before I voted again because I forgot to take "The Chain" into account as a Stevie contribution. Mirage most depends on Stevie and most suffers without her, Tango least so, but neither compete for me anyway. I looked at the change in generally unskipped songs on the others:

White album: from 9/11 (82%) to 7/8 (88%)
Rumours: from 10/11 (91%) to 6/7 (86%)
Tusk: from 14/20 (70%) to 9/15 (60%)

Tusk keeps 9 good songs as vs 7 or 6, but loses 5 as vs 2 or 4 and thus drops the most to the lowest proportion of unskipped.

Then, out of the songs I wouldn't skip there's 4-5 songs on the white album, 4-5 songs on Rumours, and 2-3 on Tusk that I would put on a "Hey Person Who Doesn't Know Fleetwood Mac, Listen To This!" mixtape/playlist. With Stevie's songs that Tusk count would've surely been higher.

OTOH, of all the Chris & Lindsey songs here, the two "deserted island" songs would be "Go Your Own Way" (Rumours) and "Tusk" (Tusk).

Overall I think Rumours still wins even without the MVP "The Chain", but Tusk is still a very ambitious record with an incredible title track, and the white album is still really solid. Stevie or no.
