love both albums, although really dislike some of the songs on SYW. at first i was puzzled about the way you choose which songs to pit against each other until i realized you just went by track listing mostly. still it's annoying b/c you have some of my most loved songs from one and the other pitted against each other and i find it impossible to choose in those cases.

(maybe i'll try later to select the list of favorites among both albums to end up with 20 songs. :shrug:)

I only went with NMMC over BTLH b/c the latter was already released. The only tough decision for me was BC and Say Goodbye, I really didn't want to pick either WATL or Goodbye Baby.

But is the version on the Dance a concert song or studio cut? I have a Best Buy CD that features this and SYHA and they sound like studio work to me :D

and to those fans that insist CM was on these songs during SYW making, I still believe they were hold-over vocal tracks from the 97 period. These songs (97 vs 03) don't sound too much different to me, meaning LB didn't go in with the band to record them "fresh", again.

"Beautiful Child" vs "Say Goodbye" was the toughest call. I think they're both incredibly beautiful.

I wonder what would change if you changed the match-ups. Actually what might be more telling is to have people order each track listing according to their own preference from most to least and and then match up each #1, each #2, etc. The hard way of doing this obviously would be to use a randomizer to come up with the match-ups and do the exercise a multiple number of times and see what averages out.

But it's still a cool idea :) I could tell you off the bat that I prefer Tusk much more to Say You Will. I'm 16:2 in favor of Tusk with 2 toss-ups. I guess I could split them and go 17:3.

We think so much alike, and I like your post in the Mirage vs Tango thread about LB's 50's style. This is why I love his songs on Mirage, as well.

This is an experiment to see which fans are really paying attention and what they would choose if it was one or the other. It would be so much easier for most if I listed Beautiful Child vs Silver Girl; Tusk vs Say Goodbye, etc.

But hey I kinda like the idea of The List and then compare the others' results.

"Beautiful Child" vs "Silver Girl" would be the ugliest beatdown imaginable :laugh:

"Say Goodbye" has been known to literally make me cry like a baby.

I picked What's The World Coming To rather than Over and Over cos I think it is a better song to open an album with. It has never made sense to me starting Tusk with such a slow song (as beautifully sung as it is). Had they been further down the track listing I would have voted the other way. And even my version of 'That's Enough For Me', sung in the shower would have beaten Silver Girl...................:)

  • I'm surprised (and secretly delighted) that Say Goodbye received 3 votes and Silver Girl received 1, none of them mine, while Smile At You received Zero votes.
  • Equally surprising is that Not Make Believe received 4 votes vs Never Forget. (The harmonies on this one are beautiful).
  • Never Make Me Cry only got 1 vote (mine). I'm not crazy about the song, but I recently heard the Demo and it is gorgeous, worth a listen.
