AAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!

I have friends in Austin, I go there all the time.

It would fall on a day I can't leave work. I've been working for MONTHS on having a travelling bookmobile come to the library. It's gonna be on March 14th and 15th.

I'm just gonna go slit my wrists...

Bandon 02-13-2013 05:47 PM

I'm gonna be there for sure! :blob2:

Would it be too much to ask if you would videotape it? ;)

APerfectLie 02-13-2013 08:43 PM

OMG I must go! However, I have never been to SXSW before due to the obnoxious badge passes. I know you can buy tickets for a screening right before the show if there are enough seats, but I'm going to be way pissed if I can't! Any tips/ideas on how to ensure I get in?

SXSW Adds Films on Stevie Nicks, Flaming Lips, James Booker
News /

By Phil Gallo, Los Angeles | February 13, 2013

A compilation of iPhone videos shot by the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, a chronicle of the recording of Stevie Nicks' last album and a documentary on New Orleans piano legend James Booker have been added to the SXSW Film Festival. All three are making their world premieres.

Other additions include "Gimme the Power," Olallo Rubio's documentary on the Mexican band Molotov, Jeanie Finlay's "The Great Hip Hop Hoax" about rap duo Silibil n' Brains, and William Eigen's film about Pete Seeger's post-Blacklist globe-trotting 50 years ago in "Pete and Toshi got a Camera."

"Muscle Shoals" and "Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer," both of which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, have been added to the schedule as well.

"A Year in the Life of Wayne's Phone," which Coyne directed in much the same way as his music video for Ariel Pink two years ago, was created from 28 hours of personal videos. It is being billed as "the world's first vertical iPhone movie."

Nicks and producer Dave Stewart shot "In Your Dreams" in 2010 in her home studio to explore their collaborative creative process.

"Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius of James Booker" is director Lily Keber look at the life and music of Booker, who Dr. John once called "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced."

Short films on Western swing veterans Asleep at the Wheel and Memphis studio guitarist Mabon "Teenie"Hodges will also make their world premieres.

I just heard on the radio that Dave Grohl's going to be a keynote speaker at South By Southwest... it really wouldn't surprise me if Stevie ended up coming to Austin for this. Stars who attend SXSW are known to do one off shows while they're in town as well, often sitting in on other artists setlists.

Been waiting to hear from you about this. Are you going?

Probably not. The odds of getting into the show without having a wristband won't be good, and I don't fancy the idea of waiting in a long line only to be turned away. It's also likely the documentary will air during business hours... I'd rather save my vacation time for a beach trip.

Livia 02-14-2013 09:36 PM

From the FAQ on SXSW:

Are there single-admission tickets to the Festival screenings?

Yes. These will go on sale about 15 minutes prior to screening time if there is still seating available. The single admission ticket price is $10 for all screenings. In 2012, single admission ticket buyers had great success attending films at our larger venues.

The Paramount holds about 1500 (?) people, and it's a beautiful, old, haunted theater. I'm gonna try to get in for $10. I'm already off work for the music portion of SXSW - it's my favorite time of year!

Christopher 02-14-2013 09:50 PM

Dave Stewart *just* announced that he is doing a Q&A w Stevie after the screening!

louielouie2000 02-15-2013 12:36 PM

Hmm, since it's at the Paramount, I might just have to take the afternoon off and see if I can get in. I find it hard to believe 1,200 people would want to see a Stevie Nicks documentary.

Oh, I think if Stevie is advertised as being there, both fans & the curious will come. If it's anything like the East Coast screenings, Stevie & Dave will be in the audience watching with y'all. Also the great thing about seeing it in a big theatre is the great sound system rocking out the great music -you will fall in love with "In Your Dreams" all over again!
Plus, the Q&A is not to be missed. Stevie is thoroughly entertaining ;)!

louielouie2000 02-15-2013 03:22 PM

Just an FYI, y'all can buy tickets for the screening on the Paramount's website... I just grabbed one. The theater will also be screening the Sound City documentary... might have to get a ticket for that one, too! Dave Grohl will be a keynote speaker at SXSW this year... I sense a Sound City Players concert in Austin next month!! :]

Ah thank you! :blob2:

Livia 02-15-2013 10:37 PM

Done! Thank you, Louie! :xoxo: I'm gonna try to see Sound City on March 8 at the Alamo Village. :D

Bandon 02-21-2013 10:00 AM

I got mine!:blob2:

louielouie2000 03-01-2013 11:17 AM

So what time are y'all going to get to the Paramount to wait in line? Remember, our tickets don't guarantee us entry... wristband holders are first priority. I am leaving work at noon that day, and hope to be in line at the theatre by 12:30. That may be a bit early, but I wouldn't miss this chance to (hopefully) see the documentary & Stevie & Dave in person. :D

jkmaletic 03-01-2013 01:36 PM

Although redundant at this point, will you guys please ask about the release of this to more theaters and/or blu ray?
If anything, asking shows there's still an interest.

Thanks!

Jamie

Actually, badge holders are first priority, then film wristbands, then advance ticket buyers, then same-day ticket buyers. I'm off work Wed-Fri of that week and was planning to get there around noon-ish. There are some folks from out of town who are planning to be in line around 10 AM.

The first thing Stevie says in the new trailer is, "Sometimes, good things take a long time to make."

She got that right.

I found out I cannot make it to next week's screening of IYD at the Paramount Theater. If you live in Austin, I will give you the ticket. The first to get back to me via private message gets it.

louielouie2000 03-14-2013 04:45 PM

Just got in from the screening... it was a lot of fun. The one thing I came away with was how much of a goofball Stevie is... she's just so damned jolly! Just so y'all know, only one audience question was allowed since Snoop Dogg was outside doing press for his movie screening, which was up next. Stevie was wearing the medallion again that everyone's been talking about. I was going to ask her if there was any significance behind it, but they shuffled her offstage very briskly. Anyway- I don't think I've ever been so close to Stevie... it's astounding how good she looks & how gorgeous she is.

She's tiny... I was pretty close to her & can report she's thinner now than she was during even the Wild Heart era. She's got great legs; she must be working out. She was very gabby, too... I truly believe her when she says she's happier now than she's ever been. It just shows in so many ways.

I know Livia is... I may go down and listen outside the gate myself since I didn't have the required Citi card to be able to score a ticket.

I was there though many rows further back, and yes Stevie was just so happy, I wish I could've gotten in to the talk but I'm very thankful to have attended the movie and the short Q&A.

My pics are pretty poor but you are all welcome to see them:

Stevie and the Daves and co. sat in the reserved section a few rows behind me for the film and then went up to the stage afterward. I couldn't believe being just ten feet in front of Stevie Nicks and Dave Grohl. Let me die.

Here's some info on the NPR interview that came after the screening:

http://www.austin360.com/blogs/conte...n_music_source

It's interesting to hear Stevie talk about how modern women recording artists are ceding power in the recording industry that she & her generation of female recording artists worked to hard to earn. Stevie's becoming increasingly political, and I dig it. The IYD doc showcased her discontent with the government's response to hurricane Katrina & their treatment of returning war veterans. I like activist Stevie!

Stevie always sits in the last row when attending the screenings. The goal would be to sit as close to her as possible so she can observe your oooh's and aaah's, your cries and screams.

It was the nearest seat still available when I got there, although I sat down before she was there (I should've figured that's what the "reserved" signs were for, but we're all allowed our ditz moments).

Her Q&A at the Paramount Theater was about thirteen minutes and I filmed it! It has taken an act of congress to get it off my phone, but it is finally on my comp and being uploaded to YouTube as we speak! I will post it ASAP! Hope someone got her interview at the convention center. *fingers crossed*

redbird 03-16-2013 01:56 AM

I had no luck getting my video off my phone (it's new and I haven't figured it out yet), but it's just as well because the picture quality was awful. Good luck with Youtube.
