propose 6 deep cuts - 3 SN and 3 LB - for new tour

continuing discussion from this thread http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=51402 since it morphed into discussing possible 4-6 deep cuts.

(this would be the scenario with ~13 must-do songs, 3 new songs, 1 BN song, and 1 solo song each from LB and SN... that all would add up to ~19 songs which would leave space for between 4 and 6 deep cuts, depending on which other often-performed and/or pre-rumours songs make the set)

so fire away - your suggestions for 2-3 deep cuts from LB and 2-3 deep cuts from SN!!

here are suggestions we have so far:

The reason why we're having trouble picking SN songs

I think that there's more LB deep cuts than SN deep cuts because most of Stevie's songs are/were hits. We have very few to choose from. Sorry Lindsey :(

i think it's probably b/c he had 9 Tusk songs.

when you look at how many top 10 hits they had with their Mac songs, SN and LB seem to be the same while CM has double the number of each of their hits.

And only 1 of those songs became well known. The title track.

yup! only Tusk and Sara were top ten hits from Tusk.

Not really. Christine had 4, Stevie had 3, and Lindsey had 3 top 10 hits. When you take it to the Top 20, the divide does gets wider - Christine with 8, Stevie with 5, and Lindsey with 3.

But Christine had more songs released as singles, so it makes sense that she would have a larger number of charting songs..

When you average out the placement of their top 20's, Lindsey actually comes out on top at an 8, Stevie next in line with a 10, and Christine's average out to 11.

thanks for the breakdown. somehow i remembered CM 4, LB 2 and SN 2 top 10 hits. obviously i remembered wrong!

I'msoAfraid95 02-05-2013 05:32 PM

So, Lindsey had the least singles, but the highest average ranking on the charts?
Talk about irony! ;)

Musicman408 02-05-2013 06:01 PM

Not really getting too excited about "Angel". Would be nice to hear something different, but of all the options, this definitely isn't high on my list.

Speaking of this -I'm sure they would balk at the thought - but they could do a medley of several hits & free up more of the set list!

I would balk. I think medlies shortchange the audience. I'd throw eggs if they did that.

so you are missing 1 SN track still (i'm really happy with your choices, i'd go for those 2 also). maybe another SN track with lots of Lindsey's guitar?

you can't replace one SN with LB if that's what you are asking ;)

Well, Stevie was singing Wild Heart to the music of Can't Go Back, so that's why the mash up suggested itself. She was doing it when she was in make up, just off the cuff and people love that clip of her on Youtube.

A mash up is different from a medley, but with a medley I just feel that as soon as you start getting into the vibe of a song and approaching the part that really moves you, then that's when it cuts off and segues to something else. Sometimes just having your appetite whetted, but not satisfied, is worse than not being fed anything at all.

ah i remember people raving about that wild heart make up video but somehow i could never get through it - thanks for the explanation :)

i agree with you about medleys - in many cases you get just the best known part of the song, which may not necessarily be the part you enjoy the most. i remember SN proposing that for her next solo tour... so i think all the chiffs excited about the idea can wait for her to be back solo. no Mac medleys please!!

After all these years, the simple fact is that the band has become lazy. There is no reason why tracks couldn't be added and subtracted on a nightly basis, but there is a continual reluctance to introduce anything new. I realise that the blame rests squarely on Stevie's shoulders as Lindsey would seem game for just about anything. However, the band as a whole ultimately agree to Stevie's whims and will only trot out what has been rehearsed to death.
Even if half a dozen rarely performed songs are included in this tour, they too will become stale within a few months. The trick would be to keep evolving and potentially running through their entire back catalogue as well attempting newly written material. Of course, this will never happen, but if this approach was adopted, even the old warhorses could be swapped out from time to time. If this were to occur, I wouldn't be resentful of Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Rhiannon, I'm So Afraid etc because there would be a chance they may not be played at the following show.
What mystifies me about Stevie's insistence upon playing "the hits" is that so many of them are continually ignored. This is more apparent with her solo shows whereby she virtually ignores many of her singles, but in regard to Fleetwood Mac, I can't believe they haven't dragged Seven Wonders out since the Tango tour. So many casual fans of the band seem to adore this track and it would also offer an upbeat alternative to the ill-judged inclusion of Stand Back in a Mac show. The same can be said for the likes of Sisters Of The Moon, Angel and That's Alright - these would all serve to energise the rather sedate offerings we've become accustomed to from Stevie. She really does need her face slapped.

I don't necessarily think that's true. They've all been talking about a good chunk of songs that they always have to play. Lindsey has his standards that he plays every single time just like everyone. I don't deny that Stevie has a hand in it - but I don't think the blame rests squarely on her shoulder's. She's not holding a gun to anyone's head. I think they're all lazy and fearful that the audience (most of which will be made up by the casual baby boomer fans, let's be honest) won't be happy if they don't play those 15 or so "classics" that they feel they have to play.

It's weird. I actually had to think really hard for Stevie. which means over the past few tours she's really played all her deep cuts i really wanted to hear and never thought i would. (Storms, BC) Sisters of the Moon is really her only Fleetwood Mac song I need to hear her do. I'd love Angel but i could live with her never doing it again. she needs to do a rarities solo tour like she keeps teasing tho.

Now Lindsey has a bunch of Fleetwood Mac rarities i want to hear.

Well now that I think about it WISYA would be much better in her current voice. But shell never touch a song from the forbidden era 87-94.
