What songs do you want to hear least (Realistically)

I added realistically because this isn't a thread for songs were most sick of. I know 90 percent of us would like for them to not play Dreams, but that's not realalistic. I do sort of agree with the band that there are certain songs they shouldn't exclude, but I disagree with how long their Must Do list actually is. I will be very upset to see any of these songs in th 2013 set:

1. Monday Morning- this song probably tops my list. It's in no way a must do and if they try to pass this off as a surprise song again I'll be pissed. It was a cool opener And song to hear for the one tour but thats enough.

2. Stand Back- I already mentioned this in detail in the IYD thread but I don't want to hear the excuse of this being an honarary Mac song and it not being a must do. It stole the show for one tour (SYW) not any tour before that or after. If they're gonna contemplate adding other solo stuff this needs to go.

3. Never Going Back Again- all the songs on my list are very enjoyable to me in concert. They just need to go for the sake of making room. That is except for this one. I know Lindsey feels this is his Landslide or something but it does not need to be played. Hes worse then Stevie with insisting on playing this song. This could easily be replaced with save me a place or one of his many solo guitar songs from this decade.

4. Gypsy or Sara- I think she should do one of these, I don't care which.

5. World Turning- another one I've never not enjoyed thoroughly each time I they've played it but there's so many other songs mick could do his solo on. more then this song, I just don't want the encores to be the same on this tour.

6. Silver Springs- she kicked this songs ass again on the unleashed tour unlike SYW and it was a great way to close the show but I think it's 3 tour streak is enough.

7. Say you love me- now that I think about it, this is actually higher then Monday morning for me. Please don't waste any set space on doing a poor rendition of any Christine song for that matter.

8. I don't want to know- didn't say this list is limited to what they've actually played. I have a VERY strong feeling they will do this song on this tour. It fits micks whole buckingham nicks focus for part of the show, and they're on a big rumours kick (more then the usual rumours kick) and thats the one song they could still call a surprise and play a rumours song. But I just don't want it.

WildHearted 02-04-2013 07:55 AM

Yeah, Stevie really doesn't HAVE to play Stand Back. She has plenty of Fleetwood Mac "hits"... it's entirely unnecessary. If she and Lindsey are going to play music from IYD and SWS they need to cut Stand Back and Go Insane, in my opinion.

I like Never Going Back Again. He just needs to speed it up some. It's ridiculously slow to the point that it's almost obnoxious now.. and I say this about one of my favorite FM songs ever.

And I'd be happy to hear I Don't Want to Know. Actually, I'd be happy to hear just about anything we haven't heard before (or at least, not in 40 years).

louielouie2000 02-04-2013 07:55 AM

Don't Stop. I don't care if Christine herself comes back to sing it. I just plain don't like the song, it's cheesy & so very un Mac-like.

KenshiMaster16 02-04-2013 08:35 AM

I'd rather not hear Second Hand News, Gypsy or their God-awful version of Say You Love Me and instead give me Sisters, What Makes You... and a Buckingham Nicks tune.

FierySequences 02-04-2013 09:42 AM

Unrealistically-Landslide, from your list-NGBA

Hawkeye 02-04-2013 10:34 AM

After thinking about it NGBA may not be realalistic to not be done at this point. The fact that it wasn't played on the dance tour is the only thing making it somewhat realalistic. But again, I think Lindsey has this on the same pedestal as so afraid, which at least deserves it's pedestal.

jmn3 02-04-2013 10:59 AM

There are quite a few that I could do without....just taking the 2009 setlist...

Monday Morning - I totally agree that it was a nice song to bring back for the one tour and quite a surprise to open with something OTHER than The Chain for the first time since what, 1990?

I Know I'm Not Wrong - I like the song, I like that it's an obscure Tusk song that made the set, but after playing it in 2004 and 2009, it's time to let it go. This isn't some popular warhorse, most of the audience is like "what is this song?" and there are plenty of other never- or rarely played gems that could take it's place.

Gypsy - unless it's totally revamped (similar to the acoustic version they did in 2000 at the AHI benefit), they could never do this song justice on stage, and it's only gotten worse since The Dance DVD (the last time I enjoyed it).

Go Insane - No more. If Lindsey must do a solo song again, pick something else. Something off one of his most recent albums or my favorite from Out of the Cradle, Countdown!

Sara - After putting this song out to pasture for over 20 years, it was great to have it revived in 2004 and 2009, but again, if it makes room for some other lost gems (Angel, Sisters, hell, even Seven Wonders), I say it's time for Sara to take a hike.

Big Love - I'm sorry, but this song has gotten old. The song wasn't THAT big of a hit and surely the song itself isn't why it's so popular when Lindsey plays it. I think it has a LOT more to do with the fact that one man, a guitar, and a microphone are generating that much music at one time with no accompaniment that is why this is so popular. Lindsey could give another song the "Big Love" treatment and I think it too would be a good thing.

Storms - Once was enough, time for something else.

Say You Love Me - They did an admirable job trying to show some love to Chris, but I'd rather hear Hold Me or Little Lies if they wanted to tackle one of her tunes again.

Stand Back - I know Stevie loves this one because she feels she doesn't have an up tempo rocker in her Fleetwood Mac songs...but I'd be all about replacing it with Angel, or better yet, Everybody Finds Out.

World Turning - I don't like this song, I never did, and I never will. I think it makes for an awful choice as an encore...in particular with the drum solo (which was at least half tolerable in it's 2009 format without the dumb pads that Mick was rocking for 20 years).

Don't Stop - No, please do stop. This song is tired and boring without Chris on the keys.

I especially agree with this. I was genuinely bored during NGBA in 2009, and it's a pity because it's one of my top 10 FM songs. He needs to speed it up definitely. The whispering is getting ridiculous. Is he trying to be sexy? I mean this song is all about passion and anger, i think his interpretation is wrong. Maybe he's doing the song differently because he has grown, blablabla, cycles, but i think he's wrong on this one.

Also Monday Morning, SHN, and SYLM : OUT. Lindsey wrote so many beautiful songs for Tusk that would fit prefectly in a setlist. I want The Ledge.

Everyone hates Mick's solo but Mick. You cracked me up with your thoughts on Don't Stop.

I like Micks solo.It gives him time in the spotlight but I would like to see World Turning to be shorten a little bit since it drags alittle and maybe sneak in another tune into the setlist since it will be more time.

Thats my only complaint .

I think the concert goers use this tune to get a beer something to eat or go to the bathroom.

TheSorcerer 02-04-2013 01:16 PM

The only song I wish they would drop is Stand Back. I agree with a comment made a few weeks back about it sounding almost like a wall of sound. She shouts rather than sings and the words come out so fast that it's almost like she wants to get it over and done with. I have to admit that I just cringe during most of the performances because it sounds downright awful more times than not. I understand the song gets the energy going but if they insist on performing a solo song then do Rooms on Fire or Stop Dragging My Heart Around with Lindsey.

So yeah, Stand Back is going to signal a toilet break for me if they do it again this year.

Don't Stop is another track I wouldn't miss but that will never go. I've also never cared for Never Going Back Again.

Bandon 02-04-2013 02:19 PM

"Sisters of the Moon" because nothing will compare to the Mirage Tour version and I think a new live version would be a let down.

I'msoAfraid95 02-04-2013 02:32 PM

I agree with Stand Back.

I would also like to Landslide drop from the set, but I have more of a chance of seeing snow than that happening. :( :sorry:

I agree with Don't Stop and any Christine song unless she is touring with them.

I will edit if I think of more.

I think Stand Back also stole the show for the Cage and Mask tours. It gave me something to look forward to when things looked dreary.

But if they can put in an FM Stevie song that will get the crowd on its feet, then they should do that. She has a lot of songs that the audience loves, but if she also needs one that will make them jump up and start dancing. Rhiannon may foot that bill and Stand Back certainly does. But it would be great to substitute it with something FM.

Generally, I'm not in favor of them doing solo songs. If you like them as solo artists, I think you should want them to keep things sacred for their solo shows. Let them carve out and build up that solo identity. EO17 is Stevie's show stopping pinnacle and it should stay that way. If you bring it to FM you lose some of the magic.

Lindsey did not use Go Insane during the SYW tour and it made me appreciate it all the more when he went on his solo tour after that. It makes the artist stronger if they have their own set that is distinct from FM's.

I think the song is Mac-like, an aspect of Fleetwood Mac, but Christine singlehandedly brought this band to its knees with Don't Stop and Little Lies. I mean, I'm very proud to have them in the catalog, but it's not what you want out there as representation. it gives people a wrong idea of what FM is. It is those songs, but thank heaven it's far from being only those songs.

I mean, Christine's most popular songs catapulted the band into the same category as The Captain and Tennille. No one wants to stand for muskrat love.

Pretty interesting what Lindsey was doing back in The Dance. I mean, one time he tried to go without both Second Hand News and NGBA. Instead he had Eyes of the World in there. That didn't last and I was so happy to hear SHN. I welcomed its return like a lost brother, but I applaud Lindsey experimenting with leaving both of those Rumours songs out and I wish he would do more of that in the future during his solo shows, especially if he is going to go out without a band again. He needs to make the hard omissions.

I don't think the song is about anger, but I agree that the way he is performing it is dull and stupid. I don't even know what his deal is. I mean why does he think that sounds good? Because the audience "ooohs" during those long pauses? Insane.

He's done it much better in the the older tours. As far as his interpretation, I think it's good and can be playful and frisky with the right tempo, but I remember when I heard Matchbox Twenty's I found it to be a revelation. I mean, Lindsey approaches it more as finding happiness after pain, so he's never going back to that pain, due to having gotten over it and it's rather a happy tune, when he does it that way.

Others interpret it more as abandoning love altogether and never getting close enough to anyone to experience pain again. So, it's not a song about hurting, but it's a song about alienation and I found the distance and disenchantment that Matchbox 20 put on their spin to be very exciting to hear. A new approach to something that was so familiar to me.

Stevie's interpretation of the song is amusing and flattering to herself, but the person he is asking to come down and see him again is not the person that burned him in the first place, to my way of thinking.

Wow i need to hear Matchbox 20's version, apparently! I agree with your interpretation, actually. I still think there is anger, there, but i might be wrong. "Alienation" must be the best way to describe it.
I want them to bring back the full-band version (with Stevie). It was upbeat during the SYW tour.
Why didn't people who saw Lindsey (Elle, etc.) tell him he was destroying the song? :D

EDIT : Michelle, the alienation thing has just completely changed the way i understand NGBA. I never thought never going back again would be a bad thing, for some reason.

When it came out, I think I was in a minority on liking the version of NGBA, so it might not appeal to you. I guess it depends on whether you like Matchbox 20. I do and am kind of a sucker for Rob Thomas, so that may have colored my opinion.

Exactly. The song is only half about Stevie. And not the good half. Stevie's the "where I've been."

At least, regarding when it was initially written. Who knows what all of their songs mean to them today.

Call it "cheesy" or FM's most sugary "pop" song. I remember by the end of the summer of 1977, I was sick of this song. Every time I turned on the radio it was there. But taking into account their history, it is still FM sounding.

Dang, I'm surprised so many people are down on "Don't Stop" - it always makes me smile. I love it.

However, let me join in with those heaping scorn on Lindsey's awful arrangement of "Never Going Back Again." People hear the opening notes and get excited thinking they're in for a treat, only to be disappointed once they realize Lindsey is going at the pace of someone who's forgotten how to play the song, and that he's using the kind of breathy vocals indicative of someone who no longer has the chops to sing it full voice. BTW, I don't give a flip if he has enough breath control to hold a note, I want to hear the song and the attempt at showboating detracts from it. I speculate that he thinks if he does it all breathy and slow that when he finally does sing it with passion at the end, it has more power. However, making 4/5 of the song suck in order to give 1/5 of it more impact seems a sorry trade-off to me.

I also agree "Stand Back" should be traded in for an upbeat Mac song like "Angel."

Along those lines, no IYD or UTS/GOS/SWS material, please. It would be jarring and self-indulgent of Stevie and Lindsey respectively, IMHO.

Though I loved all of those albums, I agree. They've already toured to support them plenty. Let us hear Fleetwood Mac songs.

I doubt if anyone in the audience would be disappointed if we didn't hear Secret Love or End of Time.

Not that those songs are bad.. but that's not what people are coming to a Fleetwood Mac concert to see. I'd rather hear more obscure or less played FM songs. There are plenty of them to choose from, there's no shortage of material there.

Don't get me wrong..I was sick of it in 1977, but would love to hear it live now, especially with Chris singing on it. I love their sugary pop stuff (i.e., Little Lies, You Make Loving Fun, etc.). You Make Loving Fun is my favorite track on Rumours besides Go Your Own Way.

Right, some people who go to the concert are not FM fans, but most people who will be there are. The band shouldn't create a setlist that caters to people who aren't into Fleetwood Mac. They'll get their solo shows later.

I want the music these people made together. And I consider the songs band songs. Stevie is one of the better parts of Over My Head. Lindsey shines through Hold Me. Christine made the ISA verses beautiful when she was there. The five rose to such heights because of their integration. I don't separate these people from each other within Fleetwood Mac and the best tours won't do that either. I'm not going "his" and "hers", when Lindsey's guitar on YMLF or Gypsy is better than his guitar parts on most of his own songs. I want the concert to celebrate what belongs to all of them.

Well, he's hot ? That's all i have to say about him :).
Wow their version wasn't what i expected at all. I like the outro, with "The Chain", but i dislike the fact that they kept the guitar riff while completely changing the key (?) and everything else. It is so so different that it could have been an other song (that doesn't make sense). I really don't like his singing though.so mannered.

3. Never Going Back Again
4. Gypsy or Sara
5. World Turning
6. Silver Springs
7. Say you love me
8. I don't want to know

nice iteration on our ongoing discussions here!

i agree with most of your list, except Silver Springs. i've never heard Mac live yet and would love to hear Silver Springs at least once.

i don't understand while people keep bringing up MM for this tour. they did it last tour, it's a nice song, but time for a change again, i agree.

Stand Back - time to replace it with another rocking solo song of Stevie's. or like someone said, they can rock GDW like FFs did, and pick a different solo song of hers. if she needs a fast song, she can also use Ghosts Are Gone or EFO from SYW.

i agree that slowed down version of NGBA is not a very attractive song, and it was (besides Trouble) the only song i wasn't perfectly happy about during OMS tour last year and could do without. but you said realistically, and Lindsey has brought up several times already that it's a must do song. so no matter what we think it will stay. hope he speeds it up some more (he did already on OMS from SWS snail speed, but it needs more). and general audiences recognize this song and always react positively to it.

yes to getting rid of Gypsy and Sara - please please please bring in Angel and SOTM instead. or Destiny Rules.

i love World Turning, it's a great song, but Mick's solo kills it and takes up way too much time.what is it like 10 mins drum solo? i never made it through it on LiB without fastforwarding. he can show off his drum skills, but doesn't really need 10 mins, bunch of those mumbling incoherently.

agree on SYLM.

Go Insane should definitely go, however much i love it. it needs to be replaced by a rocking Lindsey solo song from SWS.

but realistically, of Christine's songs, Don't Stop is a must do. Don't Stop, Landslide and GYOW are probably the only FM songs everybody knows. realistically, those 3 are probably their only must dos. for comparison, i saw Dylan recently, the only 2 widely known songs he did was Like A Rolling Stone and All Along The Watchtower. of course, even those 2 were barely recognizable considering his current limitations :p ;). (and yes, i know that unlike FM, Dylan puts on a crappy show in general opinion, but i'm just talking about the setlist.)

so now when i switched to must dos - instead of 12 songs they are saying are must dos, there are actually 3 that i listed above.

well those 3 and The Chain.

other than those 4, Lindsey will never drop Big Love and I'm So Afraid, and he never fails to deliver on either of these 2, so these 2 will have to be added to must dos.

Stevie will never drop Dreams and Rhiannon, so these 2 will have to be added to must dos.

so that's 8.

i would love to hear Second Hand News, just b/c i love the song, the same with Gold Dust Woman.

so that's 10.

i would be shocked if they dropped Tusk.

so that's 11.

i just went back to those top 10 most downloaded songs -
1 GO YOUR OWN WAY
2 THE CHAIN
3 EVERYWHERE
4 LITTLE LIES
5 DREAMS
6 ALBATROSS
7 LANDSLIDE
8 DON'T STOP
9 BIG LOVE

10 SONGBIRD

i bolded all non-Christine songs plus Don't Stop. so we are covered. in the worst case scenario 11 is a must do, that's it!

now we have a space for 13 more songs if they want to stick to 24!!

see, there's a problem with Lindsey doing any solo song that doesn't require a backing band, and this is why:

it seems that success and ease of OMS tour last year might spur on similar completely solo tours by LB in the future. if so, this would mean songs which need a band and would be incomplete with just a backing track may need to be done with FM. on a completely solo LB tour, some rocking songs like ISA and Come work perfectly with just backing tracks, others like GYOW work just partially.

soooooo... i really hope LB chooses one of his rocking solo songs that need a band participation to perform during the FM tour. because i wanna hear them! :)

I agree about Don't Stop being a must do (unfortunately)

However, I don't agree that those are the only FM songs everybody knows. I think Rhiannon is definitely another must-do (even though it's not what it once was live).

Then there's Sara, Gypsy, Say You Love Me, Over My Head, Dreams, etc which MOST everyone knows, if not everyone.

That said.. they don't have to play ALL of their must-dos. They just have to play enough of them so that the whole audience isn't booing them offstage.

Stevie played the first show of the IYD tour without Landslide if I recall correctly, and as far as I know, no tomatoes were thrown.

Everyone knows Rhiannon and Dreams. You can't drag a slug in from off the street who doesn't know Dreams.

The Mac likes to do three hot songs in a row. Tusk, Stand Back and GYOW have been the trilogy.

In order to replace Stand Back (which they won't, but just for conjecture's sake), we'd have to have another Stevie song that will keep people on their feet and fit in between Tusk and GYOW. I'd like SOTM to be that song, but I think it kind of starts off quiet and then builds to a burn. I think the early quiet may pour water on some of the momentum left over from Tusk. So, you have to find a song that is fast and hard from beginning to end. I think EFO could be that song. Its draw back is that no one knows it. Too bad it did not come out earlier in all of our lives and have a great video to boost its popularity.

well, i may have been living under a rock (or in Europe?) most of my life, but before i started looking up LB, i did not know Rhiannon, Sara, or Gypsy. SYLM and OMH are Christine's songs so we don't have to worry about them.

i did hear "Thunder only happens" before, so yeah about Dreams :D

my kids do know GYOW and Don't Stop i'm pretty sure, from tv and video games. probably Landslide, especially after superbawl. ;) don't know if they'd know any other Mac songs.

EDIT: my kids also know EO17. it's been playing on my daughter's pop radio. she thinks it's a new song.

yup if we are talking solo. and Lindsey NEVER plays Holiday Road on his solo tours anymore, and it's his most downloaded and most known solo song. you always see people going to see LB solo and expecting that song. no tomatoes there either.

i don't think that anybody could casually walk into a FM show and not expect Landslide though.

i do agree that it's hard for the ultrafans to get some distance from all we know... i often use as example my kids, but realistically by now, my son has been to 2 LB solo shows and he does recognize most of the songs he heard there.
