"You Can't Fix This"
Not sure where the info came from, but NicksLive posted a photo on Facebook of Stevie and the Sound City band playing last night, with the caption that Stevie wrote the song about the death of her god son (I'm assuming this is Glen Parrish's son, who passed away last year, I believe).
I don't think it had been confirmed before, but it appears that this is a new Stevie tune, and not just a song that she happens to be singing on. Can't wait to hear it! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?p...73358559352393 EDIT: It looks like the info came from MTV! http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/170...nce-2013.jhtml |

Nicks wooed with a new song written with Grohl, "You Can't Fix This" – based on a poem she wrote after her godson’s overdose – and the Sundance-appropriate "snow covered hills" of "Landslide." Thanks for the info, Josh & Elle. I was already looking forward to this collaboration, as a Dave Grohl admirer, but even more so now. I hope we get a preview of the song soon.
|
I like the title.

Glen Parrish confirmed on Facebook that Stevie and Dave wrote it together.

did no one capture this one on video? bueller? bueller?

I may have heard this story before, but I have forgotten it. "You can't fix this" is a song Stevie wrote about the death of her godson. I guess he had an overdose. Who is it? I forget. Someone fill me in.
|
It was Glen Parrish's son..there is a link to the facebook page at the top of the thread.
|
found this...
Nicks premiered "You Can't Fix This," written, she said, after her godson died from alcohol poisoning after a fraternity hazing. hmmm... so that is what happened. How very sad. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...players-413974 |
i'm curious as to what "octave-driven" means......

What a weird way to describe something. |

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lano...ons-death.html http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2..._frat_dead.php I didn't realize he died a month before Stevie's Mother passed. I can kinda see now why Stevie has been making these comments about her own mortality & not wanting to waste time. :distress: |

I hope someone videoed this and we get to see and hear it.
|
They've posted 4 out of the 5 songs she did but not this one. I'm really pissed about that.
|
Me too. A brand new song and no one got it?
|
The worst part is the same guy got really high quality shots of all these songs and just happened to skip YCFT. It's not like it was the first or last song either. They deliberately skipped a song that was in the middle.
|
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will get posted soon.
|
Lets hope that someone from here is going to the Palladium show and tapes it! Of course this is assuming they don't drop it.
|
My guess is they may have asked folks not to tape the new song since that is one of Stevie's big "computer's are evil" things - people hearing new songs via a youtube video before they are actually released.

I get Amazon's weekly MP3 Newsletter, and this week's edition listed "You Can't Fix This" (credited to "Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks, and Others") under New Songs & EPs.
Unfortunately, however, clicking the link brings you to a "Document Not Found" page. A manual search on Amazon reveals a January 29th release date, but with the notation that it's not currently available. So... maybe soon? |

Just heard the recording of this in the Sound City movie. Holy hell it's AWESOME! I hope it's played live at the Sound City Players show that's going on tonight. In addition, there is fantastic footage and stories of Stevie/Lindsey & the Mac in this film, and even a few new pics. Ofcourse I'm bat**** for all the SN parts-but basically that whole 606 album is going to be a-effing-mazing!

so this song was actually recorded? Cool!! I must have missed that memo! Can't wait to hear it.
|
Yes, think release on album is Mar. 12.
|
I saw Sound City last night and was truly surprised how much this song kicks ass. Stevie sounded really, really amazing. I cant wait to hear it in its entirety.
As far as her sounding "nasally", I suppose she does now compared to her younger years, but I guess I'm used to it? Regardless, I think she sounds great. At least she doesn't just yell all her songs now like Lindsey seems to do. Jamie |

although must say i was really disappointed with the song and her singing and completely shocked when Grohl then commented how great she sang it?! of course everything he recorded for that real to reel was "amazing" and "f'in great" to him -man's gotta self-advertise i guess   speaking of not hearing how bad stuff sounds, i was also shocked that Lindsey let out that GYOW demo - man, does he sound flat there! if i were him i'd never let that out... he must really not care much what gets out these days since he said they all had to listen to and ok those releases. re Lindsey shouting - again i was really really surprised starting from april 2011 in Saban on how great he has been singing and sounding. but of course you wouldn't know that if you don't follow what he does solo, or didn't hear his latest One Man Show live release. |

As far as Stevie goes, I guess we'll just agree to disagree, which is fine. |

I totally dig the music... it sounds like the Stevie of 30+ years ago before she got all addicted on sonic clutter. I'll have to hear the studio version before I can make a judgement call on her vocals, though. It's such a shame this song will forever be buried in this obscure documentary soundtrack... it would have made such an awesome foundation for a solo album, or a very passionate Mac song! |
Wow, this sounds like classic Fleetwood Mac. They did an amazing job with the arrangement.
I tried to make out the lyrics but there's part of the chorus that I just can't seem to grasp: We don't talk much about it It goes back so many years All the times we almost didn't make it We stayed clear Dancing with the devil Call it respect, call it fear But we never allowed the devil To come to the party We were careful in our way Walked through the darkness We made a pact not to dance with the devil Even when the devil seemed to have a heart He said we'd never be sorry for what we'd done But we never allowed the devil to come to the party You can't fix this, you lost a friend Hearts breaking right and left _________________ And the devil pours another glass It's so easy The devil pours a glass of champagne ASks someone new to dance It's so easy to ruin peoples lives He twirls around and starts to laugh Tear up the invitation Hear the bells ring on the hour He twirls around and he laughs You said we'd never be sorry for what we'd done But we never allowed the devil to come to the party You can't fix this, you lost a friend Hearts breaking right and left _________ And the devil pours another glass No we never allowed the devil to come party We said that we would never be sorry For what we'd done Never come to the party If you think you won't come home Never dance with the devil He will burn you down Never dance with the devil He will burn you down Never dance with the devil He will burn you down You can't fix this You can't fix this |
